AFC South

All of them improved. Edit- to expand, the Titans were the main winner I think. The Jaguars have the worst roster in the league still, but they improved (it's not like they could get worse) and the Texans only lost one real contributor, show gaining some good defenders.

I've been thinking each team in our division has made good moves the past two offseasons, and they haven't seemed to pan out for them. I'll wait to see what happens, but all three of them look good on paper. Aside from the lack of QBs.

Yeah. I feel pretty much the same way about the East.

It's all about the quarterbacks because they each don't have one.

I'm looking at the Texans quietly re-signing Ryan Mallet.  I'm not counting them out at all until we can see for sure that he isn't that good.  Because he has the arm to be a good quarterback and with Arian Foster behind him and their defense he really doesn't have to be that good to win games.

They won 9 with Fitzpatrick.  If Mallet is just a slight improvement at QB over Fitzpatrick they could certainly challenge us.

Other then that we will have to see what happens in the draft.  Titans hold the #2 pick and could potentially get a QB.  I don't know that they are sold on Mettenberger.

You can pretty much go through the league and pick the division favorite based on the best QB in each division. Some teams crumble for a while, like Atlanta and New Orleans, or maybe there's no clear-cut favorite, like the NFC East, but generally speaking, if you put money on the team with the best QB, you'll come out ahead.

I think Tannehill is better than any of the others QBs in the AFC South, so the Dolphins might be closer to the Pats. But the Texans have a good coaching staff and the best defensive player in the league, and that was good enough for 9 wins with bad QBing. If they had Tannehill, they probably would have been a playoff team last year.

Yeah, I like Tanny a lot. Many Fin fans are down on him and I am not sure why. He took a nice step forward last year but I think the Fins coaching staff is suspect. They seem to crumble every December right when they are in contention for a playoff spot. And their GM moves have been suspect as well with paying Wallace all that money and bringing in Bush to be a between the tackle runner when he is much better out in space. And then this year losing their TE to the Bills.

I think the Texans are coming along nicely. I like what O'Brien is doing there but he has to get the QB eventually. Who knows maybe it is Mallett or Savage but without the player secured they will have a tough time ever taking the division from the Colts.

Reggie Bush did well with the Dolphins, only missed one game in two years. And he caught a lot of passes. And they signed Jordan Cameron to make up for losing Charles Clay. Kind of a wash; Cameron might be better.

I pretty much agree everywhere else. Definitely not a Philbin fan.

indeed....which is why even though NE will take a step back on defense they don't have an opponent in the AFc east that will exploit that. Now come SB maybe not the case if they face say GB or an improved SEA or if we can be more balanced perhaps we will be a tougher challenge. But AFC east teams aren't equiped to challenge that and Bill should be able to scheme himself to another AFC east title and with Tom should be favorites to go back to the SB.

yep...bush had his best seasons ever in Miami. I think he is past his prime now but can be a nice 3rd down back but he ran determined in Miami to prove he wasn't the bust people made him out. I agree with philbin too....not sure if it was how he lost his locker room or just the fact that he had a bunch of knuckleheads on his team (Wallace, pouncey, incognito, etc etc) so it's hard to tell if it's him or just the dysfunctional dolphins ownership.

I remember when the AFC South was among the strongest divisions in the NFL. The Titans and Jaguars where always a good challenge. The Texans were usually bad and have recently improved, mainly on defense.

Looking forward, I see the Texans as a strong contender. The Jaguars and Titans still have a long way to go. The Jaguars are placing their hopes on Bortles, who according to PFF, had the worst rookie grade since.....Blaine Gabbert (if I recall correctly).

The AFC South is the sorriest division in all of football.

It was never tough. Never will be. The Colts have it made blowing out three scrubby teams year around. Just for a few years they had trouble with Houston and apart from the surprise years by Jacksonville and Tennessee, that's not saying much.

You guys know very well you have it made. No one is going to threaten the Colts whatsoever.

I don't know what the deal is but by weeks 15-17, every divisional opponent forgets how to play football against NE, GB, Indy, and Denver. The other 3 divisions aren't as predictable but the 4 I named are at the end, no matter how bad the divisional opponents beat them early.

Until that changes...there are your division winners lol!

Look at the QBs of those teams and you have your answer ...
