Ballard on Lombardi podcast, GM Shuffle

Recommended Posts

I just listened. You won't really hear anything new. Ballard said they think Richardson is fine, even though he got shut down at the end of minicamp. I hope he's right. He also acknowledged that he was talking about CJ Stroud after last year's draft, which we already knew.

Everything else has been covered already, I think. Nothing wrong with the interview, but for those of us who follow the team pretty closely, it's all repeat stuff.

I feel like, after a few years of watching pretty much every interview or pressconference, we now know most of whatever a GM will ever say on the team. It's almost to the point where we can guess the answer before it's given. Well, most of the time I guess.

This has been a snoozefest of an off season

Not a bad thing!

If there is off-season talk it is usually drama or an injury

I am glad because usually we have 3 or 4 things that are drama filled. About time. It's slow in here but I prefer that over drama.

It's still early, lol..

It was interesting that Ballard was commending Steichen for not being stuck in his ways, for rolling with the punches and just doing whatever it takes to win.  Maybe a little more of that from the front office would be a good thing.  If free agency can help you, do it.  If trading up in the draft can help you, do it.  Go into every offseason and just say we'll do whatever it takes to win.  Stop being so dogmatic.  Stop being a slave to the process.

Considering that Ballard couldn't remember Herbert's name, I'm guessing  that trading up for Herbert was probably never once mentioned in this building.

Thats some impressive hate.  Even for a quiet off-season.   The number of people here who know so little about Ballard after all these years is both impressive and sad.

Yes, we just need to learn a little more about Ballard.  That's the problem.  Once we learn a little more about him, we'll appreciate the great level of success we have enjoyed over the past 7 years.

With this in mind, when the Colts and Ballard ultimately break up,  I propose we send Ballard a card saying, "It's not you, it's us."

More hate.  Just said in a snarky way.  Still it was clever.   You had that going for you.  Please note I didn’t even try to convince you that you’re wrong.  You’re entitled to your viewpoint.  I just found them a little astonishing.  But it’s the off-season and these kind if moments happen.   Camp starts in about a month.

What did he say in regards to Stroud?

Sorry, what did Ballard say about Reich?

I was always told, "If you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything at all". If Ballard said anything nice about Reich, he was wrong.

Go to about the 23 minute mark if you want to hear. Below is from the Youtube transcript:

19 20 21 year old kids with unnamed sources in the media that just I mean

23:36

why like wh why just I don't understand where the benefit is in that and if I

23:45

think if you go back in history and you look at the guy some of the guys that have been ripped apart and tore down um

23:51

some of them have been really successful I look I went off the year before about CJ stra with CJ and people were killing

23:58

killing him over a over over a test and I mean he he debunked that pretty

He’s not wrong.  Stroud was getting killed based on doing poorly on the new test to measure mental aptitude.   Strictly on that basis it was good to see Stroud succeed.

PS —. Speaking of that test, did we hear anything about that in the 2924 draft?   I didn’t read a single story about it.   Did you?

Definitely. He said the same things last year that he said this year in defending AD. He just didn't name the player he was talking about. I think QBs were the topic, so it could have applied to Levis or Stroud, but it was obvious he was talking about Stroud.

This year, some agencies advised their clients not to take the S2 test. That's about all I remember about it. I think the cognitive testing process has some image rehab to do, and if they can keep scores and results out of the public sphere, that's a good start for them.
