Do you have any thoughts regarding why our staff and Ballard chose someone else after months of knowing and seeing him in the classroom and practice.

so, I remember the 49ers doing something very similar with Shananan, and they had good success at it.

At the end of the day, our TES were better than our middle-bottom WRs, I think they agreed with this and decided to cut the bottom of the WRs off.

I think we also still have the chance to sign 1 more WR most likely.

TBH, while it's been marked as a more pass-happy offense, I don't really think so too much. Sure we will have more inventive play calling, but I'm going to assume we might still have a run-first offense.

So, in short, the bottom TEs were better, and we still have a chance to scoop someone who's been cut or waived in one of the most dense position groups in the league.

A lot of these young rookie WRs come in close to the skillset of washed up, or average vets/

Cowboys Shockingly Release Breakout Defender

https://sportdfw.com/posts/9-cowboys-who-will-be-cut-by-tuesday-s-roster-deadline-01h8f9gjbj5n/4

The former Florida A&M standout had an absolutely dominant season in the MEAC in 2021 (19.5 sacks), but his disappointing 2022 led to his going undrafted, The 23-year-old is still a little undersized on the edge (6-foot-4 but only 215 pounds), and his preseason appearances proved he's not ready to compete at the NFL level yet.

He showed some nice pass-rush moves, but he had no solo tackles and as many missed tackles as he had assisted tackles (2 each) through his first two posteason games.

With his job on the line he had an underwhelming showing again with 1 tackle and 1 assist.

I know this is an unpopular pick with Cowboys fans, who largely want him to be a roster lock, but this is also a numbers game. He'd have to overtake Vellami Fehoko (a fourth-round pick) or Dante Fowler for the final spot on the depth chart, and I just don't think he's quite far along enough to do that.

Land is an obvious practice squad pick, and hopefully adding some size and strength helps him reach his full potential as a viable edge defender in the pros.

EDGE

Guy that just got off of kidnapping charges.

Yeah, Sills was acquitted of the charges (it was kidnapping and rape, BTW).  So, legally, he's totally in the clear.  But hopefully it was, like, innocent not guilty....rather than just insufficient evidence not guilty.

Yeah, I just didn't feel like including the 2nd part.

I figured somebody would grab Rush.  Not surprised the Chiefs did.

I think he's got some real potential.  But apparently he just didn't have a great camp -- and Darrell Baker Jr. really did.  So, there you go.

Since the Chiefs picked last , I'm thinking we lost Rush to the last team that could have claimed him. Bummer......

Wouldn't it be a kick in the chops if Rush ends up making the Chiefs squad and turns out to be a dude?

Recent history, one team has been making all the right decisions and one team all the wrong ones. So, yeah, Rush is definitely going to win the Super Bowl for KC with a pick 6.

    • Standings after the all star break:   Brewers 56/42 Cardinals 51/47 Pirates 50/48 Reds 47/52 Cubs 47/53   Reds just can’t finish games.
    • Smith had knee surgery which has been well discussed on here.    Flowers is expected to be ready to go by the start of the season.   Lammons and Pittman were banged up during OTAs but seem fine as of now.   Dulin seems to be without a brace and should be ready for camp.   Scott as we all know is out for the year… sad face…   That’s as much as I know as of this week. I’m sure more will be revealed on the 24th.
    • Ok….  I was with you until the end.  A good thoughtful post.   Turns out McCloud played and played  lit and enjoyed a career year.   Graded in the 80’s.     McClouds 2022 season was even better than I remembered.      An overall grade of 80.  A run defense grade of about 67 which is decent.  A pass coverage grade of 85!   And he did all that while playing nearly 1025 snaps.   And that doesn’t include ST, just pass and run.     So that tells me the Colts played either a 4-2-5 or a 4-1-6 the vast majority of the time and weren’t in a base 4-3 very often.   Likely only on 1st downs.   McCloud is really one of Ballard’s best FA signings in his 8 seasons.
    • Imo just because it didn’t work out in 2022 doesn’t mean it won’t work this year.  I’m all for giving your young players a chance to develop.   But if they are not ready they are not ready.  I’m confident the safety room is going to receive a lot of scrutiny during camp.  I think Scott’s injury added to the concern.  So we will just have to wait and see how it works out.  Regardless I think they will do something if they feel the unit can’t get the job done.
    • Im concerned about the mental as well, but if the staff feels he's ready.... We'll see! They are at least ready I think to give him strong evaluation in training camp and preseason.
