Colts Vs. Jaguars Game Day Thread

Happy New Year,  Colts Nation!  :)     But not entirely happy to  Colts fans  everywhere, as our 2016 Indianapolis Colts are unfoturnately out of the hunt to reach the NFL Playoffs in 2016, since their loss at the Oakland Raiders on December 24.   Colts will try to defeat the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars, with interim coach Doug Marrone at LOS.   A  Colts victory would also equal their   2015 regular season  win total at 8-8  again in 2016.

Colts in the past won the AFC South Divison titles with identical 11-5 records in three consecutive seasons, but could not crack beyond 11 wins since the 2009 Colts team won 14 games.

This afternoon will also be outside linebacker Robert Mathis's  last game as an Indianapolis Colt, announced this past week his retirement as an active player in the NFL.  Mathis was drafted from Alabama A&M in 2003.  Among many of his achievements  was earning an NFL championship ring with the  Colts team that won Super Bowl XLI,  and both earning and awarded the AFC Defensive Player Of The Year after the 2013 NFL season, and setting the team record with his 128 career sacks.  Mathis is a popular player to Colts fans and and I felt he earned, and certainly deserves  his name in the Colts Ring Of Honor, and perhaps the NFL Pro Football Hall Of Fame, for both his service and achievements.  Well done. Robert!

LOS's roof is closed for the 1:05P.M. Eastern Standard Time finale, because sunny skies at 40 degrees, feels like 36 degrees, is the game forecast outside the stadium area in Downtown Indianapolis, along with 0% precipitation, 65% humidity, and  mild southeastern winds at 6 miles per hour.

NO injuries, a pleasure posting the Game Day Threads for the 2016 Indianapolis Colts Preseason Schedule, Happy New Year to the Colts Nation as we all enter 2017, win one more game to even your 2016 NFL regular season record again at 8-8, and  for one more game, GO COLTS!!!!!   :coltslogo:     :cheer:     :1colts:    :colts::coltshelmet:   :cheer:  :coltslogo:

Almost game time, let's do this !!!

On an unrelated note, I got a phone call earlier from my sis in law, she thinks my brother has had a stroke :(  He spent from the end of august thru the early part of november in and out of the hospital and rehab. Not the news I wanted to hear on New year's day.

Thanks again, LOS!

JlynRN: prayers for a speedy recovery for your brother.  Just another reminder of how our disappointment in our Colts not being in the postseason should be tempered with what is truly important in life.

So sorry for you and your family. I have a brother who was recently diagnosed with a form of very early onset dementia. We need sports for an escape but also reminds us how unimportant they are in the larger scheme of things.

Sorry to hear about your brother, it's rough I know :( My brother has a bad heart, but a transplant at this time is not an option.

    • I'd be surprised with the committment to the run if we spent much capital on a WR for the 3rd year in a row.  But if they think there is a stud out there, who knows.  Campbell I don't think is" injury prone" necessarily, last weeks hit was just unfortuneate and broken foot is also usually and accident rather than injury proneness whatever that means.  Assuming he's 100% next year, I think they'd be pretty comfortable with the playmaking potential of PC.     But Houston is old too and we probably are really going to need another edge guy.
    • How is Togiai fitting in with the team?

    • Unfortunately there hasn't been much meaningful college football so far so my watching has been limited too.    From limited watching this year and some from last year, here are the QBs: - Trevor Lawrence is looking like a complete beast early in the season... true, it's against bad competition, but even then you can see him making some awesome NFL type throws with accuracy, anticipation and great arm talent. I think he will be amazing in the league.  - Trey Lance - very intriguing dual-threat QB from North Dakota State. Had 28 passing TDs and 0INT last year in his redshirt freshman season and ran for over 1000 yards and 10+ more rushing TDs. He might not play this year because of COVID. Interesting to see how that affects his stock in the draft. -Justin Fields - another dual threat QB, who had great year last year. He's showing more than just athleticism too - he has the arm talent to win not just by running but also by passing the ball - there is some hype for Brock Purdy... I watched his first game this season... wasn't impressed. IMO he's not a 1st round QB based on what I saw, BUT it's possible it was just a weird game, so I will have to watch more to be sure. -Jamie Newman - he opted out of this season after transfering to Georgia... so... I will have to go back to last year's tape to watch him more intently.   OT: Penei Sewell - best OT coming into the draft last several years. Looks great. Prototypical size, lenght, athleticism...great technique. He has it all IMO. DL: Gregory Rousseau(DE), raw but very athletic edge rusher.... Marvin Wilson - interior lineman with some pass-rush upside, Kwity Paye - another EDGE with insane athleticism... there are some reports that he ran the 3 cone in 6.36... this is madness if true - it would rank 2nd all time in the drill... this is for all positions and he's an EDGE who's listed at 6'4" 272lbs.
    • Does Blake Bortles facts make a comeback?     Also my wife and I have just started binge watching this comedy called "The Good Place" and one of the characters is a really dumb Jags fan and he is always playing up Bortles as some great player.  It's hilarious.
