2016-2017 Indiana Pacers season (and the rest of the NBA)

I'll go half way with you. the first paragraph..

The second part is the tough one. We don't want guys who cant make 3s (Stuckey and Monta) shooting them.

What really hurts us is that we don't have that wing player.....who is a 3-specialist.

That's why I'm saying I dont tknow why Aaron Brooks does not play more.

He can miss 10 in a row but he van then make 5 in a row.

Glenn has his moments....but he still doesn't look confident.

But yeah.......I see Miami shooting 30 3s a night....Cavs....Washington....firing bombs....

Out best 3-ball shooter is probably our GM

Glenn has looked a lot more confident in these last two games out of the break. He just doesn't get opportunities. On other teams when a 3 point shooter hits his first couple, they keep giving it to him until he's out of rhythm. That's how Kyle Korver gets 8 3s made against us and other teams kill us with 3's.

Glenn Robinson was 2-2 tonight. CJ Miles was 2-3. We only attempted 12 threes. There has to be a way to get these guys more open shots. And Paul George needs to shoot more threes as well. We don't need Aaron Brooks; he doesn't play because he turns the ball over too much and has bad shot selection.

I just don't think the team was constructed the way the NBA is being played today and the scheme is not putting the playmakers in a place to succeed.

113-95...ugh......

The 6-game losing streak hurt us...though...we needed one or two of those.

Houston and SA are high flying....

....the only good thing tonight was that Paul George certainly didn't wear himself out in back-to-back games.

...and yes, we do need AL Jefferson to throw in 10 points a night

Pacers need to get a dominant center and move Turner back to the 4.  It still won't make them final competitors but these team is a mess, thanks Bird.

That's what I think...

..but they keep saying he's a '5'

I guess they want a center who can defend at the perimeter against teams like the Cavs and GSW

..would have loved to get Lopez from the Nets....or Okafor from Philadelphia

Brooks shoots 3s...he has that mentality.......certainly nobody's telling our guys not to shoot 3s...

You have to get to your spot and get it off. Its up to the player

That's what I mean about Glenn...He does not get to the 3-line like Miles does...

That's what 3-shooters do.....

You have to have a drive penetrating guy..which we do (we have 2)

......the shooters have to get to the 3-line..that's what Korver does

Yeah it's Bird's fault. He's the one that wanted Myles at the 5. I don't think he is there yet from a toughness standpoint.

I don't think Okafor would have helped and we didn't have the trade pieces for Lopez. Maybe we try again this summer if we keep PG.

If you guys had to choose an all-time starting lineup, only 5 guys - who would you choose?

Mine would be:

PG Magic Johnson

SG Michael Jordan - Kobe was Great but he isn't Michael

SF LeBron James - Yuck but I would over Larry by an eyelash. So to the people that think I hate him or I am biased on my all-time player rankings, there you have it.

PF Karl Malone - Some classify Duncan a Center so I will roll with Karl

C Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

PG looks frustrated to me. I know he cant be happy that Larry didn't do squat to get him help either.

He needs to get over it.....I'm sure we'd have made a trade if we could.

I'm sure we could have traded Myles Turner for several players but what good would that do

I agree, but maybe refs are getting tired of his nonstop whining. It doesn't do him any favors.

..and by the way, calling the ref a 'puppet' of the Miami coach publically (he might be, you just dont say it to the reporters) isn't helping the team.. We'll get that ref again...

I am sure there are other moves we could've made without getting rid of Turner. Sixers wanted Okafor gone. Regarding PG's text, bad move on his part but that Ref is pretty bad.

I'm not sure what they would be

We were talking about Lopez and Okafor....I assume names (or picks) were exchanged and they said no thank you.

I'm sure they asked for Myles Turner.

I'm sure EVERYBODY asks for Myles

Off topic but Daytona is today, does anyone even really care? :sleepy:I am from Indy and never have got into racing. I used to party all weekend back in the 90's before the Indy 500 and have been to a few of those races but went for the party mainly. Daytona is Nascar's Superbowl.

I like the idea of the new format.....makes each race 3 races in one.

But a lot of the drivers I liked have retired

I liked Jeff Gordon but have never really followed it close and he's retired now. I have been to several Indy 500 races and even watched one race from a suite. That was cool with free food and free beer, that was back in 1993. Vern Fleming was in that suite by the way and I got to talk to him and his twin brother.

You are right.

You need 3 wing (read 3-ball) threats, one of whom can be the point guard..

..and a creator in the middle who is not the point guard.

..play as very mobile post who can defend a guard in pick and roll

You need wins shooters and defender coming off the bench

We have a half dozen players (Monta, Stuckey, Big Al, LaVoy, Serafin, Glenn) maybe more...

By acquiring Cousins..    New Orleans is going in the wrong direction..

The game is on the on perimiter and he cant defend out there

There's a lot of teams like us..Memphis..Bulls, 76ers, Knicks..Clippers, NOLA

Myles Turner could be a new era center...but an old school forward.

.....and I'm guessing that's why Larry wants to keep him at the '5'

You can win without playing small ball. Look at Memphis. They haven't won a Championship but had the Warriors down 2-1 in 2015 and they basically just use pick n rolls with Conley/Gasol/ZBo and out physical teams. They are always tough in the Playoffs and usually manhandle teams like the Clippers.

Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon and Carl Edwards...all retired in the last year...

.....I like to watch the strategy but I rooted for them..now I have no rooting interest

I've never been to the 500..Could never afford to go..

I always watch it ......but Indy car is more car than driver

When you say: Look at Memphis. They haven't won a championship but they were close?.

Look at US. We haven't won a championship but we had Miami and LBJ down 3-2. We went to the final s with Miami twice.

With Roy and David West, we were Memphis.

Our style is in transition but you can only get the players you can get.

We're trying to win and transition at the same time.the Bulls are, too.

We/they brought in some win now players and we have some transition players

Its not always a good mix on the floor

Once I turned 21 I used to make the Indy 500 weekend my party weekend. I had a friend that lived by the track so we would walk up and down Georgetown Road all weekend, It was one big party. They had a few bars + a White Castle even by the track. They had the Wild Cherry bar as well - I wont even tell you what that was haha. The police were laid back, back then so they let people party, even had some Mardi Gras stuff going on back then.

What used to be good defense (protecting the paint......playing off a quick dribbler so he cant get by you...

'helping' when the dribbler penetrates..) is now often bad defense.

..playing off a quick dribbler makes you vulnerable to the step back '3' (which is traveling but that's another discussion) shot..

...Helping on a penetrator and defenidng the rim simply opens up the '3' line...you defend against a '2' at the cost of giving up '3' shot

...switching on pick and roll puts your center against a guard at the 3-line.

But not switching and running behind the screen also opens up a '3'

You cant have power forwards and centers anymore..they have to be hybrids

Had Memphis had a guy like Kyle Korver a few years ago they would've been extremely dangerous to go with Conley, Gasol, and ZBo

I was always working on Memorial Day so I'd listen in the car or listen to the ball game..The only race Jack Brickhouse would ever talk about on the Cub broadcast was the Indy 500..

....I was born in Indianapolis but I've never lived there (that's another story)

One year, when I was in Indianapolis for the a high school state championship, I got out late at night and I decided I'd find the 'Brickyard' because I'd never been there

I drove over to the west side and wandered around. Again..this was before you worried about wandering around a city at night by yourself.

...anyway....and one point... I thought I was there but I could not see anything.

Then, I realized I had been driving beside it for a 1/2 mile.

I got out of the car and walked to a place where I could see a little and I was (and still am) stunned by how big it is..

I'm always tickled by how some things are where they are:

The biggest auto race track in the world is Indianapolis.

The biggest horse race is in Kentucky

The biggest golf tournament is in Georgia

....and that moment...about midnight..with nobody else around, I was standing next to the biggest auto race track in the world....an odd memory

I probably took it for granted because I could be part of that every year. It was just a big party from basically Friday night through Sunday until the race was over. Now days the police are really strict at the races and I haven't been around it in over 10 years, it wasn't as fun once the 2000's rolled around. I just quit going but I at least got to experience some fun stuff for a few years anyway. That event is huge and brought thousands of people into the city. I used to love the people that barbecued all the way Georgetown. There would be anywhere from 5 -10 different people doing it and you could just a get a rib sandwich anytime you wanted.

For about 7 years..I would drive a courier route from downtown Indianapolis to the Federal reserve in downtown Chicago.....  3 1/2 hours.....on Sunday morning.  I-65 to the Dan Ryan

Hated it when I did it but I miss it now. I watched the sun rise as I headed south..

....I'd stop in Rensselaer, Lafayette and Lebanon...almost every Sunday......pick up the paper and talk to the girl behind the counter......Id get a Maxwell St. polish sausage (all burnt and greasy) and be home by 1 p.m.

...well when the Brickyard 400 ran..I'd listen to the "pre-game" show all the way down. They were actually at the track live at 6 am...I'd run into the traffic that would get off at (I think) 16th street....I'd see the trailers and the trucks with the number of their favorite driver.  The idea of putting a NASCAR race in the Brickyard, I guess, was more controversial than I knew....  but the Brickyard race..and the way the NASCAR guys (and later, girl) talked about it. The reverence they had for the place...

I felt proud and I dont even live there.....That's when I started watching NASCAR

Okafor would not help us here because we don't use him like the Sixers do. He has a high usage rate and yesterday shot 19 times to get his 28.

Turner would have many of these games if we used him the same way.

That's where I lose you, Blue....Myles Turner and Jahlil Okafor are not the same player at all to me

Okafor is old school low post.....Myles is that hybrid guy who can face the basket and go to the 3-line.

I think they would have complimented each other..

Turner cant yet play deep down low like Okafor and Okafor cant use the 3-ball or defend the 3-line like Myles......just from what I've seen.

Yeah I would be fine with Okafor, or Lopez for that matter.  Move Turner back to starting 4 but then where would that leave Thad???  Wonder if we would just trade him? No clue.  Bird already screwed this year up, valiant effort just didn't work out however if they make the playoffs, who knows they may do damage perhaps.  I'm not sure.

Wants to play for a championship contender...not even in the top 200 for +/- in the last 5 games

If this is what his attitude is going to be like, it might be best for the Pacers to trade him to the highest bidder and move on.  I don't want that to happen; I'd love for us to make things work with Paul.  But if he's supposed to be the franchise guy and he wants to play for a contender, why isn't he contributing to making the team a contender instead of just whining about it?

I had a house in Speedway back in the mid 1990's and would do the same thing.   We'd always pull a wagon full of beer.   Great times.  You'd usually see some boobies and wouldn't have to go the the Wild Cherry for it.
