For Once... Impressed By Johnny Manziel...

I have to say, after readying an article this morning, I am finally impressed by Manziel.  Seems like that stint in rehab made something click.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/08/21/manziel-tiptoes-around-questions-about-starting/

I do think that the article headline is a bit cheesy, because, in my opinion, Manziel answered EVERY question with the type of response you expect to hear from a QB like Rodgers/Brady/Manning/Luck or whomever should they happen to be sitting behind a vet.  Take note RG3, this is what an unproven QB with potential is supposed to act like.  If Manziel can learn, there ought to be hope for RG3...

“I am just happy to be out there and getting a lot of reps,” Manziel said in comments distributed by the team. “That was a good two quarters off football that I got tonight that I am getting a lot better from. I am going to go back and look at the tape and learn from it. The more reps that I am getting, the better for me right now. Would I like to be in there with the ones? Sure, but that is not my call. If that decision does come, I will be ready to hop in there, but for now, I am making the most of the opportunities I am getting.”

Hey I'm not going to lie!  I was actually impressed by how Manziel orchestrated the offense last night.

If he continues to improve upon what he's doing I could see him taking over the reins from Mcown at

some point during the season.  Keep taking the game serious and good things may happen.

The best I've seen him in the NFL. I've been really hard on him, but gotta give credit where it's due. Let's see if he can keep it up

Yup I've been hard on him as well but he played pretty darn good last night. Maybe that rehab really helped him out. Sounds like he's matured a bit too

If he can stay out of trouble off the field and just focus entirely on football, I think he really has a lot of talent and could be a good player.  I want to see him succeed because I think Cleveland deserves it.  He's a guy who just goes out and can win football games if he focuses enough.

The only downside to Manziel having any success is how many times you'll have to hear about it on ESPN and NFL Network.

The problem is McCown is so bad that Manziel might be in the line of fire sooner than he wants, IMO.

McCown, one of his throws indicated to me why he does better with taller wide outs (something he does not have with the Browns), he likes to throw it up and let his wideouts go up and make the catch, and does not do well in timing routes. It was the case in Chicago with Marshall and Jeffery, it was the case with Mike Evans as a rookie in Tampa Bay too that he loved throwing it up to as well. I have a feeling Manziel will make his debut sooner than later.

His performance didn't warrant an "i told you so" let's see it a few more times. If he proves me wrong, I will own it and applaud him

Oh it did, to all the people saying dumpster fire and that he will suck forever. I've said all along that labeling a rookie a bust is just a stupid thing to do. I'm glad you will own it if he does come out and become a long-term starter.

Manziel is a bust. Off drugs a good game for him apparently is barely 50% completion percentage against backups. It'll be funny to see how bad he goes back to being once he's on drugs again

Well you're just a terrible person. That's worse then any of Manziel's completion percentages could ever be.

I don't wish him any I'll will, but I think the chances are he goes back to using

Meh. I think I've seen enough cases of young kids that have fun to the max and do drugs in college and still are able to shut it down later in life when their career becomes their number one priority (Assuming that it was actually drugs he went to rehab for, I'm not sure that information has been released yet). I think he knows what he stands to lose if he can't get his act straight as far as addiction goes. I guess we'll see.

Manziel has definitely improved from last year, albeit not hard to do with how awful his rookie year was. Whether he can be a long term starter in the NFL has yet to be determined, but it is nice to see him able to turn his life around and possibly make something of himself instead of potentially being another bust.

The majority of people who use hard drugs to the point where they have to check into rehab rarely quit completely. Didn't you see the pictures of him in that bathroom in Vegas?

Like OCG said, they never said it was drugs he went for. And the infamous non-incriminating bathroom photo was taken before he went to rehab.

I'm not buying it. RGIII is struggling in the NFL and he was twice the prospect Manziel was coming out of college. If RGIII can't cut it, I don't think a guy who is shorter, has a weaker arm, is more run first, and had less football IQ is going to succeed.

I don't feel the need to be politically correct all the time. He was caught with a rolled up bill in the bathroom of a Vegas casino, and then went to rehab. I'm not exactly forming a baseless opinion

Neither do I feel the need to be PC. He wasn't "caught" doing anything. And I'm pretty sure he went to rehab on its own accord. And it wasn't bc someone took a picture of him in a bathroom.

Right, but if you're really not just being PC and you take into account the picture and the fact that he went to rehab you must not have much common sense to not realize the kid is a drug head

He doesn't exude drug head or addict to me. He got drunk that one time before the Manning Camp, but that's all I've ever seen or heard about substances.
