Patriots being investigated for Deflating footballs.....(Mega Merge)

IF? Carolina WAS cheating and got caught. They got off with a warning.

See this to me is laughable, and shows cherry picking. Ignore the cheaters, except the ones you don't like.

#This post doesn't change that the Pats cheated and deserve whatever public outcry they get. The Pats should be better than this. Apparently they aren't. You reap what you sow.

I get that you're a super sad guy that everyone is trashing your team, but that's what happens when you cheat.

I'm a Colts fan first and foremost of all else. If what the reports say is true the balls deflated we're checked at halftime. So? what was done about it? we're the balls removed from play? My point is that at half it was 17-7 while using deflated balls, well if they removed thise balls than the Pats played much better with regulation balls as they poured it on after halftime. This deflation did not hamper the outcome to me.

It's my understanding that the home and away team prepared and provided 12 balls each which were used during the game.  If 11 of 12 home balls were out of spec (under inflated), then those balls were used during the entire second half.  There's video evidence which shows only one ball being taken out of play, which was at the start of the 3rd quarter.

You remember about 24 hours ago I was calling for NE to blow the Hawks out.

Well......this changes things dramatically IMO. I believe the home field advantage will be profound, as in, y'all won't be able to hear a dang thing.

I honestly don't think it's gonna work like that this time. We're not talking about critics saying they're not good enough. Your team is under fire, and it's about to get much much worse, especially if things continue on the current trajectory. I cannot fathom a much greater distraction than this, a distraction that should give your team little fire and lots of shame. Shamed people don't typically perform well.

The Pats thrive under negative media coverage/pressure. They have had so much the past 7 years. Mostly self-inflicted sadly. But remember the first four weeks of the season when Brady and Bill were washed up heading to Cincy?

Bill will use this as motivation and turn into us vs them. They think we only win because of deflated footballs mantra. lol.  Plus. I think the Pats are the more balance team and when that is the case, they usually win. To be honest, I am just happy it is not the Giants. We have never lost a SB to anyone but them. lol.

Not really all that sad coming off of a 45-7 thrashing in the AFC Championship game.  I find the indignation on this board totally over the top.  There are quite a few Colts fans that try to interject logic into this thread and are immediately shouted down by other Colts fans with pitchforks.

But YMMV.

Which still needs to be proven.  But feel free to assume...

I am not assuming anything. I have stated previously that I need to see the entire investigation, but given the information at hand it does "appear" that the footballs were deflated after the refs inspected the footballs. By all means though continue to try to deflect.

ridiculous...

Not only that, but the Colts footballs would have also deflated under the same circumstances.  It'd be helpful to know what the weight of those were.

I've seen reports that all 12 Colts footballs where in the acceptable range.  But I don't feel terribly confident in the sources.

But I have to believe that if the league was investigating this incident it would have to test the Colt's footballs as a comparison.

I heard 2 pounds of pressure less than what it should've been, and that's 11 of 12 Pats balls.  Brady, Gronk, and Belichick, thinks it's funny or some big conspiracy theory, but the only conspiracy going on is the one with the Pats and NFL, because they've been caught so many times and they get slapped on the wrist everytime.  Unlike other big scandals where teams and atheletes are suspended for multiple games.  Or in other sports banned/acheivements vacated.  The Pats are habitual offenders, but it still doesn't mean anything.

haha you're so defensive. So you aren't upset that your team is taking heat, yet you're taking your free time to sit here and argue with all these posters on here?

Please little guy. You aren't going to work me up by bringing up our loss. I'm over that lol.

I only hope the Pats wind up on the other side of a team cheating them to hear the sound of backpedaling.

Then why do the under inflated thing anyways?  If they can win regardless?

I agree, the Patriots are a fantastic team and BB does things with his personnel which prove he's an amazing coach, but why do any of this at all?

It leads me to wonder, what else are they doing?  How else are they cheating?

whats up with goodell's pants???

don't the kraft's have toilet's???

looks like he just wet himself!!

LOL, that's probably what his pants look like now after being caught with the deer in the headlights look, especially considering this was alledgely the night before the DeflateGate Scandal.

If BB can turn this into fuel for his team. He's truly a genius.

"Look guys I know the media is calling us cheaters because we cheated. But let's go out there and show them that we're a good team who doesn't need to cheat. Despite cheating to gain a competitive edge!!!!!!!"

I have no idea. I can tell you as fans it is maddening. They obviously didn't need to do it to beat the Colts so who knows. We are all awaiting to hear from Bill and Brady. Interview with Bill will be tomorrow so be sure to tune in ...

So you are comparing a rampant steroid user/abuser with deflated footballs?

Dont nitpick at what degree of cheating each is.  You're trying to pick and choose the semantics of the situation. But the situation doesn't change because you want to deflate the issue at hand.  Cheating is cheating and can affect outcomes.  His point remains valid.   Other people in the racing industry use steroids and lose and nothing is made of it.  Those that win though it costs them everything.  Take that concept and apply it to the Patriots.

Not sure if this is brought up in the 33 page thread but in case it isn't here it is....

There is no need to investigate and prove that this was done to punish New England. I'm sure the NFL would love to get to the bottom of it but here's what I'm saying.

The Colts balls have been found to be OK. So that lets weather out of the equation.

The 11 Pat balls all show the same amount of deflation .. 2 lbs.

The above makes it 100% guilty of tampering with the balls. There is no way in heck a jury would deliberate more than 15 minutes on this one.

If already covered ... delete this

no they haven't.  there has been no announcement or credible leak on this yet.  just a passing comment on Mike and Mike

The Patriots have ruined their legacies. Tom Brady and Belichick will never be recognized as GOATs because they will forever be known as cheaters.

The NFL should vacate their SB's and be banning somebody from the league, forcing Kraft to sell the team or something!  That's why Brady always cries to the ref after a no call, he deserves special treatment, if he doesn't get it he is a CryBrady!

Actually, I think cheating should be allowed for the big game, given Pete Carroll is known as a cheater also.  Call it the Cheater Bowl.  LOL I saw a picture of the Lombardi trophy that was photoshopped, and the football was deflated, I think the Pats should get one of those if they win :)

He won't comment on it until the league finishes its "investigation"

But I'm sure he will say he interpreted the rule differently,........ again

Honestly don't even care about the outcome of the game now. It's just another tainted title, makes no difference.

What's grinding my gears this morning is hearing the ESPN guys continue to discuss the score of the AFCCG game, as if this has anything to do with the issue.

The score disparity is moot. In what realm can a team/competitor be caught cheating, yet not have their spoils revoked? Moreover....be allowed to advance the the championship?

What a terrible year for the NFL, and it ends with this? What a shame indeed.

I hear you. I turned espn off this morning because I got tired of hearing about the score of the game. I know as a whole a lot of ex jocks are not top notch IQ specialist but Cmon man!

Okay, the point of intent here to gain advantage. This is where I have issue and it goes to every team but specifically the Pats as it always seems they are up to something. We truly can't be naive here to think they aren't concocting something all the time and sometimes they get caught, most times they are not. THIS IS THE ISSUE. There shouldn't be any teams trying to gain an advantage over anither team outside of REAL game planning, home field advantage (which is earned) fairly or at least should be and stratedgy through true drafting and coaching.

This is where the Pats become dispised by me. They are going beyond the natural, legal advantages everyone can normally obtain. So what does that say about this "so called genius coach". What it says to me is that he doesn't trust his 1) Coaching ability, 2) Player accountability, 3) Players in general and 4) Seems to have a huge fear of the "every given sunday" cliche.

Take this into consideration. Why do you believe fans and coaches and players alike get so upset when officials make bad calls to determine outcome of games? Heck why was instant replay created in the first place. Answer: TO STOP AN UNFAIR ADVANTAGE outside of normal legal circumstance governed and granted to each team in the NFL.

If those of you arguing and steaming cannot understand why this is a huge issue especially when the Pats are concerned then you have fell off the boat and are swimming in the sea of dillusional.

Alas, until the NFL steps in and takes away seriously meaningful things, this stuff will continue to happen. Strip the offenders of championships, records, income sharing or trophies. Draft picks aren't enough in my opinion and neither are personal fines that can easily be accumulated back the first quarter of the following season

Just my take

Every time a player gets called for holding, facemask etc, it is a violation of the rules.  Technicaly, it is the same as this violation of the rules.  Likewise, when a player gets away with something it is a violation of the rules.  Nobody ever calls a player a cheater for attempting to gain an advantage by holding.  Is he violating the rules?  Of course.  Is he hoping to gain an advantage by holding.  Of course.

I don't see this as a big deal.  The Colts were outscored by a greater margin after the underinflated balls were discovered.  In my opinion, This (underinflated balls) did not help and are not the reason we lost Sunday.  In retrospect, I would bet that the Pats are sorry they did this because they got caught.  How is that any different than a player getting away with PI, holding, facemask, contact beyond 5 yards or any other violation of the NFL rules?

I know it's wishful thinking, but you're wrong. They will still both be first ballot Hall of Famers, they will still be sitting at the top of whatever list a show is doing about rankings, and the banners will still hang in Gillette Stadium.

Just as the Spygate chatter finally calmed down, so will this. I know this is a wet dream for everyone who has ever hated the Patriots, but I'm sorry to tell you it just won't change a thing in the grand scheme of things.

The only reason I am upset its because of the indignation here, which is laughable considering all the other rule breaking that is going on.  I see people railing on about cheating, but don't see the same animosity to the other cheaters.  It's the Patriots.  Admit it and move on.  If it was any other team, you wouldn't care.

tl;dr: The indignation is not about the actual cheating, it's just because the Patriots did it.

Yeah it's guaranteed. Posted it in the other thread, but I calculated that there is no way the psi changes that much due to the temperature change. At max it would change 1 psi.

Plus there would be varying degrees of deflation if weather related. The fact that all 11 balls were deflated by the same 2 lbs will be the nail in the coffin.

He only needs one win though this time for a happy ending.

they cheated in the game to get in and god knows how many games before this.

Wow. So @mortreport just said Colts turned in a ball in back in the Nov game in Indy that seemed shady from the Patriots

Wishful thinking. The first thing that will spring to mind when people here the name "Belichick" is "cheating".

    • Yeah, Ebukam almost looks clumsy next to Latu. He's just so fluid.
    • Did Hou actually get that much better? This really does remain to be seen. I am of the opinion that the signing of Diggs is a signing that has been made about 2 years too late. He won't be bad, but he isn't a top 10 WR in the NFL anymore. I wouldn't put him as any more dangerous that Pittman, so WR's are a push. We have the better RB, Mixon is great and all, but he is not JT. We have the better Oline, and it isn't even close. TE's are a push, we have a lot of upside, but until it is realised im very "meh" on our TEs. QB - I would argue that Stroud is probably more likely to regress to the mean in year 2 vs improve. That rookie season of his was a bit silly, and they had an easier schedule last season too. If he really does build on last year and get even better, then our entire discourse here is probably irrelevant as we will have another Mahomes level QB on our hands to deal with in the AFC and within the AFC South no less. So unless Richardson is also a Mahomes level talent in that scenario, we are done for anyways. To me, our success in this coming season comes down to 2 groups on this entire team. 1. The QB (because... duh) 2. Our DBs. If we even get average play from the DBs, I think this team has the ability to win the whole damned thing (supposing Richardson stays healthy and is what we all hope he is). I would also argue that Houston are paper thin. If they lose a OL starter, Mixon or even one of their starting WRs.... they have a very big drop off. And injuries happen in the NFL. Just sayin...
    • If he wasn’t fast enough or athletic enough anymore for linebacker, then he’s not going to be able to cut it at Safety where speed , quickness, athleticism are even more important.    Wish it wasn’t so….
    • could he be another bob sanders at that position?
    • Man I love me some Maniac, but it won't happen, and he's too slow after his surgeries.
