This is exactly the kind of thing that replay was put back into the game for. This is the reason that we tolerate all of the delays in the flow of the game that replay causes, so that when something like this happens the correct call ultimately gets made. If the official was not in good position, he might not have seen the recovery before everybody started piling on. That it is not reviewable, though......that just blows my mind.
