Colts issue RFA tenders

So we have RFA tenders to some unpopular guys?

That just provides security that if another team wants them, we get compensation.

It is a smart move.

These tenders probably don't come with any compensation. But they are cheap, there's no negotiation, and they give us right of first refusal if another team does extend an offer. Given the quality of the guys being tendered, I think it's unlikely that any other teams make offers.

Mike Chappell on twitter:

Yes, you read that correctly. We'll be keeping Cassius Vaughn... I hope this doesn't mean we're losing Darius Bulter. Would much rather have Butler over Vaughn & Gordy.

You are exactly right...Vaughn needs to go!  Butler is much better than Gordy!!!

We just don`t have any bodies at CB. Now we do. Vaughn wasn`t so BAD when guys were in front of him.
But I have never seen a guy more brain dead when they got behind him.

Link is better than Olson at Guard and he knows the plays. Better than Sowell at tackle, but sucks there.

I think all of those signings are just fine as backups.  You're not going to have all pros as second stringers!

I also don't know why folks are so down on Vaughn.  Yes, he tends to misplay balls, but the guy is almost always right on his man.  Give Pagano a full season to work hands on with him and I think the guy really improves.

Does it show or say anywhere at what level we tendered them at?

2013 Restricted Free Agent Tender Amounts

First-round tender $2.879 million

Second-round tender $2.023 million

Original round tender $1.323 million

Right of first refusal tender $1.323 million

I don't know why it would lead u to think that.

Link was kept because he can fill in every where but center...and as a back up he isn't near as bad as people believe.

I will admit Link did improve through-out the year...when the dlineman blows by him he really improved his ability to turn around quickly and watch the QB get sacked or chased.

In all seriousness I do think Link improved during the course of the year, but IMO he went from a bad olineman to a below average olineman and for the most part he was as good as McGlynn at RG and as good as Justice at RT.  And the area that seemed most improved for him is he finally seems to be developing the strength to battle with NFL dlineman, so another year with the current strength and conditioning coach may make him an average lineman.  So if the Colts focus on the oline in the draft they can get equal production from Link and save a roster spot.

Coffee....he was at his best at LG with Shipley at center.  Some of Ballards best runs came with AC, Link and AQ.  Link is valuable across that line.  I do think he is worst at RT.

Like I said, I think he(Linkonhisbach) improved and I meant it.  When discussing some of Ballards best runs, also remember that most of his long runs came from that draw play where Link's ability to let the defenders far up the field very quickly worked in the Colts favor.

That's an ability now???

So do MJDs....draw plays are effective.....just sayin.  Links was at left guard on my reference and not being blasted into the backfield like he has been known to do specifically at right tackle.  He is not the Lin-In-best as we know, but the only OL to play in every game...very durable.

    • Packers fans can tell me about Joe Barry that was their DC from 2021-23. They were always in the Top 12-15 range in terms of points per game as opposed to the Colts.   But the year 2021, the Colts were on par because we ran the ball well and possessed it well. Not so much in 2022, and 2023 was a bit of defensive regression for decent possession of the ball from Bradley’s unit.   Brandon Staley is another name but I’d prefer Jon Barry for his units to generate pressure. Otherwise we’d have to look at college like Packers getting the Boston College HC.   I’m a fan of Jim Leonhard that was a heck of a defensive coach / DC at Wisconsin, and is now a DB coach with Broncos. Dave Merritt, the Chiefs DB coach has done an outstanding job there and was interviewed for DC by 49ers.   My pick would be Jim Leonhard or Dave Merritt.
    • You can’t keep winning only scoring one TD A game. I think they have gotten some what lucky with who they have played. Colds dline beat up so we will see.
    • What I meant is they are not going to come out and just throw 50 times. They are going to try and break your will and run out the clock. It’s  probably going to be a low scoring game. They have only scored 3 offensive TD. I am shocked they str 3-0. They don’t have many offensive weapons. Harris is not really a pass catching back who will break a long run. Now could that change. Off course. But their Oline id beat up. I was reading an article how they tried to open things up and Fields immediately got sacked. He they try to open things up till he revert back to Bears fields.
    • I don’t know enough of the position coaches on other teams to say who is worthy of promotion. Best to keep an eye out on head coaches on the hot seat and their staffs.
    • Sadly also changing my Colts pick.. 😞   Steelers 21 vs Colts 17
