Alright colts fans your on the clock!

We have a section in the forum for this thread. :) Nadine has it posted at the top of the forum that is what Ruk was referring to.

Yep. Draft time is here and it's gonna get pretty heavy with the speculation and such. This draft follows what can only be described as the most successful draft in team history in 2012.

Grigson indicated to me a clear strategy of going offense in year 1 of the rebuild (let's not kid ourselves, despite the incredible success, this is a rebuild). I believe the plan is to go heavy defense in year 2. With the impending loss of Freeney, questionable personnel up front and especially throughout the secondary, the needs are extreme.

As for the O-line, I'll say yet again......we should look toward the FA market. No more Ijalana's or Ugoh's...we ain't got time for that mess. Luck took a beating in 2012 ....we must protect our investment, our future, by not relying on unproven kids for this assignment.

@ illdubb, I'm like you, would prefer to trade down for more picks.  This draft is very strong in rounds 2-4, but.... the OP  asked fro a 1st round choice and at this time I only have a list.  So here goes.

My list from my first option to my last: Chance Warmack OG, Eric Fisher OT, Kenny Vaccarro Safety, Xavier Rhodes CB, Lane Johnson OT, Jonathan Banks CB, Ziggy Ansah DE/OLB, Larry Warford OG(might be a reach, but we did that last year), KawannShort DT/DE, and Barrett Jones C/OG.

Will refine my list after Combine.

Trade down to get muliple picks is first choice.

But if we have to make a pick at 24.........Johnathon Hankins. I think he could drop to around here, and he would basically be playing the same role Haloti Ngata does in Baltimore. I know he dropped in stats over the year, but at times he has looked dominant in his career at Ohio State.

If Either, Banks (CB) Hankins (NT) Cooper (G) is not available, best option is to trade out of 1st Round. Trade with Arizona, Bengals...get a 2,3,6th out of it... or for 2014 1st Rounder. Maybe stack up a some picks for the possibility of getting a very strong 2014 draft. We did have a 11-5 (12-4 Jacksonville Fluke) team.

1. TRADE

FA: Killeen (OLB/DE) Kelley (WR)

Lane Johnson OT Oklahoma

I don't know if he will be there when the Colts are on the clock. But some teams are always making stupid decisions on draft day so if he is there I would take him. I know OT is not the sexiest choice but with him and Castonzo we would have two young and talented OT for years.

I just hate the idea of trading down I believe we have a huge need for talent I think there will be plenty of talent at 24 Lane Johnson would be a steal because I think he is gonna be a big time rt in the NFL. Dion Jordan would be hard to pass on because he fits really everything we need . I think being realistic my top five would be in no particular order Dion Jordan,Lane Johnson,Matt Elam,Barrett Jones because of his versatility. In a dream world Chance Warmack,Jarvis Jones !

The colts select  "the freak",from SMU(Margus Hunt-DE/OLB).He stands 6-8/280,with a relentless motor and already the most decorated special teams player in NCAA history(field goal/punt block). He's a type of player that changes close games(the difference between a playoff win or loss).

For nearly 10 years, Bruce Feldman, a writer for CBSSports.com, has annually compiled what he calls a "Freak List" of the 10 college football players he considers the most freakish athletes. In 2012, Hunt was on top of his list. According to Feldman, Hunt "sounds like a PlayStation football creation"—despite his 82-inch (2.1 m) wingspan, he is able to bench press 225 pounds (102 kg) 35 times, and has also cleaned 384 pounds (174 kg) and snatched 345 pounds (156 kg). Hunt also boasts a 36-inch (91 cm) vertical jump. Wollman predicts that Hunt will have 45 repetitions and a 4.6-second 40-yard dash at the 2013 NFL combine.[5]"

He sounds great in the weight room. but can he, "play football, with the football on the football field? Because if he did not play football, he would probably not be playing football today" homage to Bob Nelson

Yes,he can play.If he's there,then only a fool passes on him.He's our guy(irsay even said as much:via tweet).

I think the hardest thing to find is a pass rusher. And they usually take a couple years to develope.

So i see us taking Ansah or Okafor or an OLB that they rate highly. Yes this could include trading back.

San Fran has more draft picks than they can use.

According to the points chart a trade up by San Fran would get us pick 31, 3rd rd pick 95, 6th rd pk 191.

We could trade back to an early 2RD'er and get him...possibly... Then have 2 (3rd picks and a 5th or 6th) to do some trading up for whoever... Watched a few highlights...seems like a good pick.  Tony Mandrich was a freak... so as a 2nd round pick, I'd pull the trigger... If a more valued pick wasn't available.  We did pick up OLB/DE Killeen in FA... However, we seem to be stacked at OLB/DE (Freeney...Hughes, Killeen, Mathis, LBs etc,etc...

...here's to hoping we are as foolish as the first 23 teams to pick

Jacksonville will go after a long snapper in the 1st...to augment that punter they chose in the 3rd last year!!!  A few QBs, RBs will move up.  Somebody will fall in love with a unmentioned 1st round pick.  My guess; Barkley, Glennon, Wilson may move up.  And then there is Jerry Jones... He may go rogue...

Hunt is raw... he really has no moves except for "destroy what is in front of me". That having been said said, after watching the highlights of the Hawaii Bowl I was astounded... dude is a monster... I do really think that he is going to be special, but it could take a few years in all actuality. I would be surprised if Hunt ended up being a bust... I don't think that the Colts will go after such a raw player with their first pick, though, unless Manusky is screaming for him. I could be wrong, though... I think we will have some pretty decent talent on that side of the ball when some of our guys are healthy and we have added through FA... I can't say that I'd be too disappointed if we grabbed Hunt with the 24th though...

I agree that he was clueless, but he's young and made a mistake. I do however think hes one of the best LB's in the draft and his mistak means that he has a chance to drop to us, i think that we need to get a replacement for angerer.

Im more interested in colts fans insight versus websites .

"Luck’s offensive line was extremely subpar as well. Only left tackle Anthony Castonzo deserves to start at this level. Luck was hit a league-high 14 times when throwing. His receivers dropped an NFL-worst 50 passes. And the average distance of Luck’s passes was further than any quarterback in the game.

Simply put, Luck’s 18 interceptions and 54.5 completion percentage were the result of the Colts throwing him to a big-league offense right away. The Colts (21st-ranked scoring defense26th-ranked total defense) would have been 4-12 without Luck. Instead, he led an NFL-record-tying seven fourth-quarter comebacks and they finished a ridiculous 11-5."

1. Trade + Somebody or 7th RD to Arizona, KC... for (2nd, 3rd, 5th) (Compensatory: 5th for Garcon)

2. Larry Warford (G)

3. Brandon Jenkins or Chase Thomas or Jonathan Bostic (LB) or DaRick Rogers (WR)

4. Kwame Geathers (NT) or DJ Swearinger (SS)

5. Ray Graham or Jonathan Franklin or Kenyon Barner (RB)

    • How bout this? Draft better and u build a play off caliber team. Ain't rocket science.
    • Look im not gonna say Ballard haven't had his own issues, but the guy has been put in an impossible position particularly every year.   2017 - He has a lame duck for a head coach when we all knew was gonna get fired and was drafting for his scheme so I'll give him a pass.   2018 - Arguably his best draft getting two All-pros and a stalwart at RT. He gets to sign his choice of a head coach and is left at the alter at the 11th hour which in hindsight was a blessing in disguise. Drafted Tyquan Lewis, Hines, and Franklin who all have or had great years here. Andrew Luck was back and playing like an MVP.   2019 - Horrible draft. No excuses. It was his worst draft as a GM, but he did find a gem in Speed. Luck retiring a week before the season starts would put any GM in a tough spot so once again I'll give him a pass.   2020 - His second best draft getting Pittman, Taylor, and Blackmon. Signed Rivers and traded for Buckner and won 11 games. Unfortunately lost to the Bills in the playoffs.   2021 - I honestly can't tell for certain what happened in terms of QB. Ive heard Rivers was supposed to re-sign, but choice to retire. I've heard he was pushed to retirement as the colts wanted to go in a different direction which was apparently Stafford before the Rams came in last second. I heard Reich pushed hard for Wentz saying he can fix him against the wishes of Ballard. If you ask me, I think Stafford was plan A as Stafford himself said him and his wife were so convinced he was going to Indy that they started looking at homes. When that fell through, imo Reich lobbied for Wentz. Whatever it was, Wentz was the guy and the QB carousal was supposedly stopped at least we thought. A god-like season for Taylor was not enough to save Wentz from ultimately being traded and you can chalk that one on whomever Reich or Ballard depending on what story you want to believe. In terms of the draft, Paye and Dayo have been reliable players on the dline, Granson you can make an argument is our best TE, and Fries came into his own last year.   2022 - Just an overall disaster of a season. Went the bandage route again at QB trading for Matt Ryan and you can say the colts did him no favors in terms of oline protection and JT getting hurt, but that was a failed trade for a miserable season. 2022 draft is still under elevation, but Pierce and Woods did show potential as rookies and Raimann looks to be the LT of the future.   2023 - Ballard finally gets to draft a QB to tether him to and Richardson plays a grand total of 12 quarters. It just seems like Ballard can not catch a break when it comes to QBs, but from I've seen from Richardson, I have very high expectations.
    • Hi Colts fans,   Yeah, I know, I know.  I was just as surprised as you were.  No clue why my good friend Jim Irsay would call me up and offer me the head coaching job.  I had to remind him.  Dude, I said, you do know that I've never coached at all at the NFL level.  Not coordinator.  Not even position coach.  Nothing.  It didn't seem to matter.  It was as if all that was required was for me to be good friends with the owner, and -- bazinga! -- I could be a head coach.   It was awkward, you know.  That first coaches meeting.  There was Gus Bradley.  And there was John Fox.  Both of them had been head coaches.  Heck, both of them had coached in a Super Bowl!  Yet here I was, promoted to be their boss, having never coached before.  Ever.   But, you know, Bud Grant did it.  So, why not?  Remember, I have a way of doing things.   Ok, sorry, I couldn't help but giggle.  I have a way of doing... what, exactly?  Things?  Things like coaching?  I have a way of coaching?  And how did I develop that way?  By actually, you know, coaching?   Anyway, I'm glad you have a new head coach.  One who has actually coached before.  And his experience doing that is bearing fruit.  I'm just glad I'm already in the Ring of Honor.  Because after what happened, I doubt that I would ever be accepted in by the fans, regardless of how I was as a player.  Heck, they would have put Andrew Luck in before they would even consider me.   In the meantime, I'm back at ESPN, attempting to "un-burn" bridges.  It can happen.  I heard Bud Grant did that once....   Regards, Jeff Saturday
    • We certainly have options as both DB draftees started at FS as well as CB in college. Perhaps Thomas ‘could’ revert back to CB as well?
    • Here's to hoping Colts hit the jackpot and everyone looks back saying wow he was definitely the best wr in that draft...
