Rich Cannon
If im not mistaken, he was a free agent, so yeah, they needed to resign him. Has no bearing what so ever on whether he makes the team or not.Thats my point why resign someone if there a free agent just to cut them? The colts could have let him walk easily, resigning him indicates he is of value to the colts. He was 3rd on the team in sacks and the only other person to get a consitent rush on the qb besides Mathis/Freeney
Balzer40
Then you generaly just don't resign them. Normally if you resign your own you don't turn around and cut them.Could be. Its just my opinion. Of course, I have never been a Foster fan. Just think he's a career tweener that happens to excel sometimes. Like his motor, just think the colts would be better off keepin someone else in his roster spot.
John Waylon
Pollak, Lacey, or Fili Moala....I only say Fili because of his recent incident with the law......Recent?It happened OVER A YEA AGO and the team ALREADY PUNISHED HIM FOR IT...And if we're going to cut him for that, we'd might as well send PattyMac packing, too, because his arrest was one of the more colorful in the NFL... Henry Swanson
Hughes gets one more season... If he's inactive for 10 or more games this year, though, I don't know where we go from there... I highly doubt we'll move Brown, but that would get more out of him than we are... I doubt, though, that other RB's being more effective than he will force a move. We had that when Chad Simpson was here, and still, nothing. Simpson is one of those anomaly players... Every time we put him in at RB, he did well. He ran hard, he ran fast, he ran smart. He made good gains, he was proficient at picking up blocks, and catching out of the backfield. Literally every time he played I found myself going "Hey, let's put Simpson in some more. He's showing much better than Brown." but we never really gave him much chance unless Addai or Brown was injured, and then we let him walk before last season. If one of the rookie RB's shows better than Brown this season, I wouldn't be at all surprised if we simply go that route and ignore it again and keep trying to make something out of Brown... Very true.I think c.simpson was hugely underrated and didn't get the respect or opportunity that he deserved.Plus he had a lot of special team potential and could make some plays with zero blocking! But we cut him, because brown has "potential".I really that word!Everybody has potential and brown has shown none so far. Horse Shoe Heaven
I started too look at the depth chart today and I think it might end up looking like this:QB (3): Manning, Painter, third QB (could Orvlosky I would hope we sign a guy like Sorgi but with the questions about ManningI think we keep three)RB (3): Addai, Brown, CarterWR (6): Wayne, Garcon, Collie, Gonzo, Smith, WhiteTE (3): Clark, Tamme, EldridgeOT (4): Castonzo, Diem, Ijalana, LinkOG (4): Reitz, Pollack, McClendon, DevanC (2): Saturday, RichardDE (5): Freeney, Mathis, Hughes, Chick, AndersonDT (6): Johnson, Moala, Nevis, Foster, Mathews, HarrisLB (6): Sims, Brackett, Conner, Angerer, Wheeler, GlennCB (5): Powers, Lacey, Tryon, Thomas, RuckerS (3): Bethea, Bullitt, LefegedK (1): VinatieriP (1): McAfeeLS (1): SnowReturner (0): Lefeged (had him on the roster already at safety)By my math that puts us at 53. I am not the best math person in the world so someone might want to double check that. I will also say I am still leaning towards guys who have been here for a while right now. The next two games could very well change my mind on some of the undrafted rookies. The 3rd Qb does not count against the roster or salary cap. I think Richard is gone As DeVan & Pollack can play center. I think 6 DT's is to many & we will probable cut 1 Matthews or Foster? 3 Safeties I think they will keep 1 more, Caldwell or Newton unless they think Rucker can play there. I think LInk could be in trouble. There is NO WAY we CARRY JUST 3 TE's. 1 of these kids will make the team & 1 or 2 on the practice squad. White might be IR'ed. It may be the other DE Brayton over Anderson. I really hope they keep Chick!!
Mr Colt
Cut Hughes and keep Chick. A lot of people are coming up with about 8 guy to cut but aren't coming up with 8 guys to keep we have to keep someone. Also we have carried three tightends for years. We kept three last year and only added playes when guys get hurt. I'd Harris is the wild card spot, if he plays well Mathews could be in trouble if not Harris probably gets cut. White could very well get IRed. It's only two weeks into the pre-season I am sure my roster is going to change a lot in the next two weeks. SoCalColts
Personally most of the cuts will come from the areas we have too many players at. WR,DL(bigger maybe),OL (maybe),TE (1 or 2),LB (the no-name players) and DBs (no-name players as well)My suprise pick wont be Brown or Gonzo they will make. Plus Gonzo is a better 4 WR than B White. Gonzo can even be a 2 or 3 WR if he wasnt hurt and minus the emergence of collie and garcon (who still is a ? on his skill level). Suprise pick would be Wheeler cause guys like Conner, Moten, and Sims may make him expendable.
Balzer40
I really hope they keep Chick!!I really do not understand this at all. Chick is not NFL material. He has done virtually nothing since the Colts brought him here. He gets pushed out of plays constantly and is never anywhere around to make a play. Why on earth should the colts waste a roster spot on a guy that brings absolutely nothing. For those of you that want this guy to stick around, I really think you should prepare yourself for dissapointment. I don't there is any way at all this guy makes the roster. ReMeDy
Would Curtis Painter count as a surprise?Yes, because Polian likes clip-holding QB's who look silly on the sidelines and get paid peanuts. For the Colts backup QB position, the better you play, the more likely you'll get fired! Sad, but seemingly true. Painter and Orlovsky are in a competition to see who plays worse. You can dress 46 and your 3rd QB is no longer designated as emergency use only. It should lead to specialty package type of situations if your 3rd QB is a wildcat type of athlete. Scott Pennock
In your opinion, who will get cut?I think gonzo for certain. We will carry more D-linemen(maybe o-line too) this year,so i think he gets cut for the roster spot.Surprise release after this camp:Blair White to the PuPCurtis Painter - just because he's the teachers pet not because of his obvious performance issuesEric Foster - expendable with the signings of Brayton and Anderson and the emergence of Ogbu and Nevis as players (albeit we thought that last year when Marlin Favorite played well in the preseason too)

The only areas I would question is the quantity of ofensive & defensive linemen and the lack of safeties and DB's in general. I don't think you have enough LB's & DB's to play special teams. Having the 6th WR means Taj will be covering kicks and punts but there will have to be a linemen on both sides of the ball cut in order to make room for a guy like Moten and/or Afalava. Superman
My 53 man roster, as of today:Offense: 24 totalQB: Manning, Painter, Orlovsky (we'll keep two backups for a few weeks, just like 2008)HB: Addai, Brown, Carter, possible flex for special teamsTE: Clark, Tamme, Eldridge/Devree (I think we'll keep only three, but if Eldridge isn't healthy he could be released or IR'd and we'd keep Devree)WR: Wayne, Collie, Garcon, Gonzo, possible flex for special teams (Taj Smith could return)OL: Castonzo, Linkenbach, Diem, Ijalana, Saturday, Reitz, Pollak, DeVan, McClendon/Kirkpatrick (I think we'll keep 9)Defense: 26 totalDE: Freeney, Mathis, Hughes, Chick, Brayton/Anderson (toss up, might cut both)DT: Johnson, Moala, Nevis, Foster, Harris/Mathews (if Harris is healthy, he's the keeper)LB: Brackett, Angerer, Conner, Wheeler, Moten, Triplett/Sims (if Sims is healthy, he's the keeper)CB: Powers, Tryon, Lacey, Thomas, Rucker/Johnson (Rucker might be ahead because of versatility, but Johnson has looked good)S: Bethea, Bullitt, Lefeged, ?, ? (I'm not sure what we'd do after Lefeged; no one else has really stood out to me, might be a hybrid spot)Specialists: 3 totalK: VinatieriP: McAfeeS: SnowReturners: I figure we'll have two returners, but they'll be listed as defensive backs or receivers/running backs, and so don't need an extra roster spot

Balzer40
No way Foster gets cut.I don't why people are so sure of this. Seems to me the Colts are wanting to get bigger on the D-line. He may make it, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he is let go. Of course some people want to keep Chick too and I don't see that happening at all. Chick is not worth a roster spot, he has done nothing since being here. This is all a moot point anyway because as other teams make cuts we could bring in some of those players and the roster will be changing for a while.
