As there is every year, there is tremendous competition at this point.

Here is who Wayne and Freeney are up against:

1.  Julius Peppers   DE

2.  Antonio Gates    TE

Note:  both are considered the front runners because this is their first year of eligibility and they’ve made it this far.

(the rest in no particular order)

3.  Torrey Holt.         WR

4.   Patrick Willis.      ILB

5.   Andre Johnson.  WR

6.    Jarred Allen.       DE

7.    Willie Anderson.  OT

8.    Darren Woodson.  DB

9.    Devin Hester.        ST

10.   Eric Allen               CB

11.    Rodney Harrison.  DB

12.    Fred Taylor.           RB

13.    Jahri Evans.          IOL

14/15.    Wayne/Freeney.

Again, the list from 3-15 is in no particular order.   But that’s another tremendous final 15.   Even getting to the final 10 will be very hard.

Good post. I could see these players getting in:

Peppers

Gates

Harrison

Anderson (3 first team all pros!!! I don't know of any RTs with that kind of honor)

Besides that, maybe Holt and then Wayne and Freeney.

Why would Holt be in front of Reggie?

I know this won’t be popular but I don’t think Freeney will or should get in. Great career and he was definitely a force for the Colts. I’ve seen crazier things so I hope he does.

Reggie deserves to be in there. He put up top 10 all time stats while he was second fiddle most of his career. WR log jam May keep him out for awhile but I think he will eventually get the votes. He was too good for too long not to.

My Mt Rushmore players that have played as Indianapolis Colts are:

1. Peyton Manning

2. Marvin Harrison

3. Dwight Freeney

4. Reggie Wayne

Freeney and Wayne both belong if Edge James got in. That is the way I see it. Edge was great but not better than Freeney or Wayne. We seen what happened in SB 44 when Freeney was injured, Freeney at his peak was a sack monster - he closed games on defense! Had he been healthy we would've won that SB. Wayne was consistently great from his 3rd season and on, great longevity, great stats, SB ring, and he was even great when Luck was QB in 2012. So, it just wasn't Peyton.

I don't know how much it factors in, but here is the list of finalists in order of the number of times they were finalists.  How long they have been waiting might have some bearing on whether or not they finally get selected:

WR Reggie Wayne 5 times

WR Torry Holt 5 times

DE Jared Allen 4 times

OT Willie Anderson 3 times

DB Devin Hester 3 times

WR Andre Johnson 3 times

LB Patrick Willis 3 times

DE Dwight Freeney 2 times

DB Darren Woodson 2 times

DE Julius Peppers 1 time

DB Rodney Harrison 1 time

TE Antonio Gates 1 time

DB Eric Allen 1 time

RB Fred Taylor 1 time

OG Jahri Evans 1 time

I'm going with:(no particular order)

1. Julius Peppers DE

2. Antonio Gates TE

3. Torrey Holt WR

4. Patrick Willis ILB

5. Reggie Wayne WR

6. Dwight Freeney DE

7. Devon Hester SPT

Opens door for Allen and Johnson in 2025.

Gotta clear this log jam out. (2) DEs and (2) WRs this year.

Harrison is a turd. He was a huge whiner and asking for a flag thrown on the opposing team

Thanks,

I was thinking there was 7-8 per year(off top of head). That was total though, with the other inductees.

Then I will go with:(no particular order)

1. Julius Peppers DE

2. Antonio Gates TE

3. Torrey Holt WR

4. Reggie Wayne WR

5. Patrick Willis ILB/ Dwight Freeney DE/ Jared Allen DE

I'm kind of on the fence here, would the voters rather put Wayne and Freeney in together or separate? Would fans want both at the same induction, or have them different years to keep Colts named talked about at the HoF?

I think Wayne and Holt have been down this road enough. Time to put them in.

Peppers and Gates are probably 1st ballet worthy.

So leaves:

Willis

Freeney

Allen

To battle for last spot.

I think that brings it down to Willis and Allen(as he has been this far almost as much as the WRs). Tough call here.

THen it goes back to the voters though, would they rather get the Colts guys out of the way(their perspective) so they won't have to talk about them next year?

Should be interesting, they are all worthy.

For me, only because he’s been waiting longer and he was 10th in receiving yards amongst all historical WRs when he retired.

I’m not saying he’s better or worse than Reggie.

Both AJ and Holt have higher yds/game in their careers. And I would argue they had a higher peak. AJ sort of changed the position. And Holt has TWO seasons where he put up 100+ game.

But Wayne will get in eventually. I think 2012 solidified that.

Interesting to me that Boldin and Steve Smith weren't top 15 finalists. They will likely have to wait their turn as well. But both have pretty similar resumes to Wayne. So I think Wayne gets in and then they will.

Good info!   Thanks.

I believe the number of times you can be considered is 10 years.   After that, I believe you have to be nominated by a veterans committee.

So by your info, the class would appear to be “young” with more opportunities for all.

Again, that’s good info.
