Who says it needs to be a contender?  Stupid trades are made all the time.

A contender is likely to pay the most in any trade.   They have the most incentive hoping the deal would lead to a deep playoff run.

What’s the incentive for a non-contender to overpay?

I guess Irsay isn’t a man of his word. Because he said  we would never trade him and now they are. I was already mad at Colts for not reveling whether Richardson was going to play to sell tickets to a preseason game. These guys are getting worse and worse.

Get over it, it was a preseason game.... And it followed pretty established norms, in not playing starters, especially after the workouts AND the other team announcing it.

Should the Colts have said they weren't playing them?  Yep.  Shoulda.  Oh well

Team control over one of top RB in the league. Can'l tag 2 more years, but more than likely agreed to deal before the trade

Someone they think can get them at least to the playoffs or help win their division this year and help catipult them going into next season.

A contender also doesn’t care much about giving up a late first or late second either. While if your a team who isn’t a playoff team or doesn’t have a QB your less likely to give up picks because you need those draft picks.

BREAKING!!

Apologies if this is posted elsewhere…

Both ESPN and NFL.com are reporting the Colts have given Taylor and his agent permission to seek a trade.

Colts want a first, or a package of picks that would equal a first.

Again, sorry if this has been posted elsewhere.

Arizona and Minnesota make sense for me right now. Would rather have Arizonas 1st which should be higher.

This is dumb btw, can't believe we are talking about this.

@azcoltThe Irsays asked for a new stadium for over 10 years. When they threatened relocating the Maryland state representatives changed a law the day of the move which would've put the franchise in the States hands. They had no choice or lose everything. You see 3 Mayflowers but it was 3 plus 70 more leaving Marland at different points. The Indiana state police met them at the border and gave them an escort to Indianapolis.

Hey guys, just got back from vacation.

Has JT been traded for two 6th rounders yet?  Or is that reality still a few weeks out?

That will never be reality.

Don't care for the taste of this sandwich being shoved down the fan's throat....at best if I give everyone involved the benefit of the doubt in the matter that makes the best case scenario being it was handled badly.....or worse yet, either the Colts or Taylor are much different than they portray themself to be.....

Going to speculate and say.

He made the team out to look like liars again(Irsay saying he was ready for camp) and didn't show up to travel to Philly with them.

Kinda jives with the situation.

Eh, maybe.  I will spe plate just as much though and say, maybe this is part and parcel with Ballard "calming the waters". No bad blood has come from Indy people for a while.... And hey, this is just more good faith gesturing ..CB - " you wanna see if you can get your deal from another team Jonathan?  Fine by us, let us know who all is will ong to give it to you and float a first rounder or equal value back to us in return for the chance to negotiate with you". All for a RB that's toast withing 24-36 months regardless of the team

Love JT, but even he knows the odds are greater that he's JAG relatively soon, than he gets a payday after this coming one.....

Either way, nearly all fans won't care for long, hell, we got over a top all time QB being released....a hall of fame RB being traded for a 2 and a 5, and won a SB after another Hall of Fame RB walking....

we've had a top QB retire during a preseason game he warmed up for, In his prime....a Head coach hire a few key assistants then bail....

we'll be fine.

Nice post.

Does anyone get anxious when it shows Jackie Daytona reacted to one of your post? Wandering what post is about to be hit with a confused emoji?

Best part is, if he passes a physical, and Indy doesn't trade him, he can't keep up the injury charade to avoid the fines, only to come back half a season in to accrue his year and be a FA at years end....if he passes a physical and they keep him.... He is suiting up all year and has to look healthy and productive....

This is likely the only way Ballard can make sure he doesn't sit half the year.

To add to all of this: Taylor is basically our centerpiece on offense. He’s at the moment our #1 star player, and therefore is going to peak interest in the fan base on what’s going on with him.

While the team itself is not expected to do much in terms of wins this season, Taylor was still expected to be a major factor in the offense and individually have a “good” year. Love it or hate it, fantasy football is also a big deal still with the league, so this situation is also leaving an effect from that standpoint…

Yeah, the problem of drafting him and see him not ready! I think it's best to stay away this year and maybe draft him in second round if available?

Well they don’t have to trade him.  If true and they want a 1st or it’s equivalent then that looks like the minimum they would accept.  If they don’t get it he remains a Colt and probably starts getting fined if he doesn’t start practicing.  The fact that they are letting him seek a trade tells me he’s healthy and will pass a physical.  Otherwise why bother.  No one will make a trade unless they are sure he will pass a physical.  So if we don trade him his only choice is to report and play out the year or start receiving fines.   If he was 28 or 29 the interest would be tempered but 24 is a huge difference.  A real playmaker and difference maker in his prime.  These GM’s don’t have a lot of time to win it all.  If the asking price is a 1st or it’s equivalent I think at least one team will meet it.

Problem trading him is that it would no doubt be to a very good team. Even a first is not that great of compensation if it a pick in the late 20's. I would just as soon make him play this year and either trade , extend or tag him in 2024.

Thanks.   Sorry, I scrolled back a little, but apparently not enough.   In the late afternoon I’m on the exercise bike for long stretches of time.  So I’m somewhat out of the loop.    ( I know, I know….   Somewhat?!?).

I can’t wait for JT to be traded and this can be done.  He is a very good player but I wouldn’t say great. Maybe with him we get 6-7 wins instead of 4-5.  He probably only has 1-2 good pro bowl caliber years left(if that) and he doesn’t want to spend it being ran into the ground by a bad team; unless they will pay him. It’s time to move on from this. Get a 3rd and swap a 7th for a 5th and don’t look back.

I don’t expect a first either. Honestly, our chance at a 2nd was before the draft. I think JTs stock had plummeted and a lot of people could be disappointed with what we will get.  Colts don’t have to trade him but they almost have to now.  It’s become a lose lose situations for Indy which is sad.

For me even if it’s a pick in the late 20’s that pick could be parlayed to move up or acquire more picks.  I’m good with that.  I would much rather have him play for us but it just seems unlikely now.

Arizona would be interesting with 1 2nd and 3 3rds

Yes, but Arizona might not be very good for a very long time.  The picks you’re talking about might be pick 33 and others in the mid/late-60’s.    Hard to see the Cardinals giving up premium picks plus a large contract for JT and still be a bad team.

The cardinals might actually have two top 5 picks in April because of that Texans trade.

    • Id like to see more QB designed runs and stuff with options to run or pass. However I don't half way blame them for pressing pocket passing either bc at some point you know JT is going to get hurt. Might as well let AR get his feel for the pocket early in the season. Say what you want but plenty of guys are open. He's just got to place and complete the pass properly. So far hasn't been happening but we will keep trying until things improve I guess
    • But I think Adebaware is a better 3T than him. He's getting better and better.
    • Do people really think his progression should be a graph line going steadily upward? Really? Seven games. It's going to be up and down. Two steps forward, one step back. Sometines, one step forward, three steps back. Especially for a guy who is about as raw as they come. Fans better expect it.
    • I’m glad our team didn’t have the bears body language. At least they were encouraging AR on his mistakes. Williams on the other seemed like he is already on the hot seat and teammates are getting tired of it.
    • I will say this. AR imo threw the ball much MUCH better in his 4 games last year compared to his first 3 this year.  Not even close.   I have to believe a lot of that is due to him being unable to practice much on his mechanics until August or so.  Remember even during spring practice he was complaining of a sore shoulder and had to take some time off.   I fully believe that once he is totally over his injury that he will be able to take the extra reps needed to get back into a way of throwing without having to think so much.   I play a sport at a highly competitive level, won't say which one, but I broke my thumb this spring and I just now am start to get back into the swing of things.  But I am not even close to where I was before I broke it.
