stitches
Lets wait it out and see how it develops. The fact that the media is reluctant to publish the name gives some reason for caution about the allegation. I hope the police do their job. Teams will probably get the name. If I were to guess they don't want the guy's name to be dragged through the mud 2 days before the draft in case the allegations are not substantiated. It's usually not the job of the media to do that, and this is why I find it weird that they are not releasing the name. The only reason I can think of is - they migh have doubts about the veracity of the claims. Of course, all of this is just speculation on my part. We're not the ones giving him millions of dollars Yes, but it will be the team's reputation on the line at draft night with all the media circulating stories about how team X has just drafted a rapist. Imagine the team knows with high level of certainty that the guy is innocent(through private investigators, through police work, etc). Would they still draft him where he's projected to go? Or would most teams just decide to save themselves the hastle and reputation hit and draft a player with clean image instead? Even if the guy gets cleared afterwards, a good portion of people would still think he did it and the team will still be the team that drafted a rapist. I think a lot of you guys overreacted for a history that has little to none truth behind. Also the fact that the lawyer says he has 3 witnesses saying his player and the woman where never alone in the hotel makes me suspicious about it. Standard denials do not usually include specifics about witnesses or outright saying that the player was never alone with her. The are usually very general and just say "this is a lie" blah blah blah. When a lawyer is willing to say a number of witnesses and completely deny that the 2 where alone together to me it sounds like he's pretty sure of his case. NewColtsFan
Hypothetical. The media releases the name. The kid plummets in the draft. Then the girl is found to either be lying, or, she can't prove her case. Or, he can prove his case to the satisfaction of law enforcement or a jury. Then what? The player has been damaged to the amount of millions of dollars. Odds are she doesn't have that. How he is to re-coup that loss? His name will be revealed perhaps by the end of the week, or maybe sometime next week. This is not as cut and dry as it might appear. Right now, he's only been accused, he's not charged...
