He's been an OC in the NFL (most notably with the Raiders -- lead Gannon and Co. to SB). At Montreal he's led the Als to 3 Grey Cups in 4 seasons, winning 2.

I've heard a lot of good things about him. Maybe he could sneak that 12th guy out there on offense?

I am going to be honest here, I really wouldn't mind if he is our head coach. I mean when he was the offensive coordinator for the Raiders in '02, Rich Gannon won the MVP and Raiders had the most offensive yards. (PLUS they made the superbowl, but lost) Impressed.

Yes, I didn't mean sounds like a Colts OC just a better candidate for OC than HC.

But I will say, I personally, would prefer a candidate like this that has experience being a HC rather than bringing up a coordinator that has never been a HC before.

It seems odd though that he goes from this high powered San Francisco OC to be the QB coach in Detroit. Was that when seifert got fired? Then from the NC State QB coach or OC to a year out of football to the HC in the CFL. Am I missing something?

Yes, I didn't mean sounds like a Colts OC just a better candidate for OC than HC.

But I will say, I personally, would prefer a candidate like this that has experience being a HC rather than bringing up a coordinator that has never been a HC before.

I haven't heard to much about him, until I saw it on ESPN's bottom line the only person I heard mention him was John Clayton. I know the Allouettes (sp) are one of the top teams in the CFL, so I imagine he's a decent HC.

Again I don't know much about other that a quick Google search to find out he has a good bit of NFL experience, and runs a west coast offense, which seems to be the "in" offense in the NFL.

I wouldn't be opposed to it, doesn't excite me either because I know next to nothing about him.

I don't know a lot about Trestman. I know that he has a law degree so he's obviously an intelligent guy, but Im always kind of leary of a guy that has been coaching in an inferior league. That don't necessarily mean he can't be a good HC in the NFL though. I think it will either be this guy or Chuck Pagano if I had to venture a guess. If Trestman is the guy though, I don't see how Christianson keeps his job.

I remember Trestman as the Cardinals OC and he drove me crazy calling those slant plays. Drove me crazy. I don't regard him very highly.

Slants have worked pretty well against us over the last few years,lol. I do like the fact that he seems to be seasoned and a winner. I like it!

I agree to some degree. I also rhyme occasionally. Anyway, much like looking at FCS and DII-III players, I think you look for guys who dominated their level of competition. To me, Trestman has done that. Aside from a great coach without a job, I think there is fine reason to be skeptical of any new coach. In this instace, I must admit that I'm personally less worried about Trestman than some others.

Wow, this guy is impressive to say the least. I remember every one of those seasons. I just didn't know he was behind the offense. Steve Young, Super Bowl. Cardinals finally make it to the playoffs w/ Plummer, Raiders to the Super Bowl w/ long time backup Gannon, etc....this guy is really good.

Those testimonials were awesome!

You should check his blog as well. He hasn't seemed to maintain it too well, but he speaks of what to look for at practice, talks about evaluating Schaub coming out, and list what he looks for in young QBs. Interesting site.

Trestman spends most of his time during the offseason working with young quarterbacks, developing them. IF and WHEN Luck is the pick he would be the best bet as our Head Coach. His specialty is working with QB's! He's won two championships in 4 years!

I'm a huge Perry Fewell fan, but Trestman is a very smart choice!

Add me to the Trestman band wagon as well. He seems to make so much sense. He specializes in developing young QB's ( sorry Doogan and company but I think that will be an issue) He was an outstanding coordinator in the NFL and has shown to be very good in the HC role as well.

The argument that he has had success in the CFL but not the NFL doesn't hold as much water when you look at what he did in places like Oakland.

As a former employee of the University of Delaware I always followed Rich Gannon's career and what he did for Gannon was amazing.

Who knows, he could tottaly lose it in the interviews or someone else could blow Grigson away, but I would feel much more comfortable with a Trestman/Girgson team than a rookie GM, Grigson/rookie HC, _______ team.

Chuck Pagano - DC (it's lateral in title, but doesn't mean lateral financially)

Brad Seely - ST (same as above regarding the lateral move)

      Pass rush.     That is the key.  Control the line.  Make him make plays.  Make him uncomfortable.  Hey, if he Stroud beats us with his talent and we’re making him complete these great plays, then chalk it up to the game.  But we can’t allow him (and any other qb) to be comfortable and pick us apart.     I hope we see our front 4 provide that pressure because that will make everything else much easier.  I honestly believe we have the corners for our scheme in Moore, Brents, and jones.  But we don’t have the pressure.  Or the FS unfortunately.  Our corners jobs in this scheme isn’t to run step for step with wide receivers.  It’s to stick with them and prevent YAC.  Moore is the best nickel in the game, Jones was one of the best corners PERIOD in preventing YAC, and I think a healthy Brents will be good too.

      Agreed.  After this last off season, I kind of give Ballard a pass on taking long to find a certified DE (if Latu pans out).  Like QBs, they don’t grow on trees.  You either have to draft one high, get lucky with one in the draft, or sign one in FA for loads of cash.  All I can ask for him as GM to do is try.  He hasn’t been perfect by any means but at least he’s tried with the DE position specifically.   i also think Shane being here has changed his thinking.  Before, Ballard might’ve went with Turner due to the higher upside.  But maybe Shane differs and wants proven players.     Either way, I’m glad we possibly have our stud at a premium position for the next 5 years at a cheap rate.     And gotta thank the Falcons for us landing Latu.  Lol

      Sure, but I know you're smart enough to get the gist of this post - a potent offense is more important than a good defense.     Today's NFL favors the O in the rule book and encourages scoring.  D's have to hang in there and most play it safe.   Of course, it's simple, of course it's not easy to have an elite O, and of course it doesn't always lead to wins.  But, in my opinion, it's the way a GM should build a team.  (Yes, I know about the Manning years.  That's another conversation)
