I guess he figured he couldn't handle any of it any longer. The sad part is he had great potential and wasted it away. I feel sorry for his family.

Not as sad as his murdering a cell mate.  From all accounts, Phillips was basically a career criminal who wore a football uniform for a while.  Can one imagine being in a tiny cell with him?

Agree.  I just read the entire story.  Before all I had read was that he was dead from an apparent suicide.

Really? That is football, This is real life. Every player in the league has a blown assignment at one time or another. That's small potatoes compared to this.

I don't like to hear that anyone has passed. But I mean considering the things he had done and the lives of others he's ruined its hard to have much sympathy for anyone but his family.  But yeah like others have said. What a waste of talent. We'll hear a story about Aaron Hernandez one day. I would bet anything. To go from having everything to being in prison will eventually takes its toll. Hernandez is probably already coping by using heroine.

RIP. I cannot believe this guy could never get his life straight. Most athlete's do eventually but this guy just kept getting into more trouble as the years went on. That 1995 Nebraska team is still IMO the best college football team ever and he was a huge part of that team. Their running game was unstoppable.
