All kind of somewhat silly sounding stuff floating around out there right now.  The connection makes sense though.

Phillip Rivers Trade Speculation Growing Legs

http://boltbeat.com/2015/03/17/philip-rivers-san-diego-chargers-titans-trade-rumors/#respond

"Anyway, all the speculation could have been squashed real quick if Tom Telesco just would deny the possibility of the trade. He could even lie and deny about it and it would be dead.

He didn’t do such a thing. Here is what Kevin Acee said about the trade speculation.

Telesco was asked Tuesday, via text, to quash any possibility Rivers would be traded. Even when pressed, he declined."

Wth? You asked people to name QBs who had success running spread offenses in college.

I'd have a hard time seeing this trade happening. Tennessee is still way more than a qb away from being a contender...and an aging one at that. SD is competitive now...so basically your blowing both windows. It doesn't make sense in my head honestly....but sometimes stuff doesn't.

If Phillip was in Tennessee I would certainly say the Titans have a much improved team but I don't think they would still even be a playoff caliber team...I don't even think they would be better than Houston. This just doesn't make sense....they need far more than Rivers to be competitive.

Phillip would be a better fit in NY who WOULD be a playoff caliber team for Mariotta then Tennessee. To me that trade would make more sense...and honestly...Mariotta could be there when the Jets draft.

so your argument is gonna be spread college QBs have more success over pro style college QBs?

I think what he is getting at is that pro style college quaterbacks fail just as often as spread ones. True most successful qbs in the league come from a traditional pro style offense in college but what we are seeing in the NFL is a transition in the passing game to running spread style offenses.

Honestly what it comes down to is the INDIVIDUAL you are evaluating. I think Mariotta has a lot of good qualities but I do think it is hard to say how his transition will look to the NFL but I don't think you just take him off your board because of that. If you do that with all spread qbs than your going to eliminate some pretty good qbs too. If you want to discredit Mariotta...thats fine but do it on his particular skills or faults. I think just saying Andre Ware failed so Mariotta is likely too is not relevant and thats what the guy is getting at.

Because that's what he said. You have nothing but an opinion, based on nothing. Like someone else said, good QBs are going to succeed. You think Mariota will be a bust, based on. . . Nothing.

I would love to see Rivers in NY. However, I don't know if Rivers would move his family east. He and his wife have 7 children and he recently said it would be too much to uproot them. But if he came to the Jets, it would elevate them to playoff contenders.

This is not to mention the whole Eli for Rivers draft day trade from years ago. I still like Rivers over Eli.

Quiz you know there is even a small rumor on the Texans forums about Rivers coming to Houston as well. Hard to tell what to believe nowdays.

Yeah this is the ripest time of the year for outlandish rumors and such. But hey....I wouldn't be mad if it happened though, barring giving up way too much for him of course.

Rivers is a very plain-spoken kind of a guy.  The only time he'll lie to the press is if he's injured.  He's not angling for a massive contract, but quality of life for his family. That and NOT GETTING KILLED out there.  The quality of the guys they bring in around him will make the difference.  He's only got a short time left to chase the dream and he doesn't want to waste it.

Sadly, I can't blame him.

With the team putting pressure on San Diego to build a stadium the atmosphere has gotten increasingly nasty as have the fans.  SD has always been a tough city because so many people are relocated from the cold East, Midwest et al and retain their team loyalty.  Few other cities in the US have a higher percentage of people that didn't grow up there.

If they move, Rivers does not see LA as a fit for raising his kids and I would imagine that could also go for some other cities like New York, though perhaps there are some quality living areas within a reasonable drive.  He's the first player in and last player to leave almost year around so too long of a commute leaves his wife alone with 7 kids and I would imagine that matters a lot to him.

His family is in the south and they're very close.

I don't know what is going to happen but I will understand, but be very sad if Philip goes.

There is no chance of SD trading Phillip Rivers

..there are too many blog writers and insiders who have to make up content

On the face of things it sounds silly, but it's real odd that they would be doing a private work out with Mariota.

Someone who they have no chance of drafting in the spot they currently sit in.

Rivers in the AFC South will definitely make it tougher on the Colts, IMO. He still is an accurate QB that makes big throws and the big question will be the chemistry with his wide outs. He won't have Gates to go up and get jump balls but I am sure the Titans' coaching staff with Wisenhunt (his familiarity with Rivers from the AFC West) will be able to draw up enough things that Rivers is more than capable of executing.

Kendall Wright and Justin Hunter can become better wide outs and with 2 TEs in Delanie Walker and Anthony Fasano, Rivers has his underneath guys to move the chains. I would be concerned if I am the Colts.

Yeah I didn't realize he was unhappy if they moved...but even if they did it likely is a couple years away....and his contract will be up so he would be able to sign wherever he wants. If he is going to leave...and I understand about standard of living etc...then imo it would be to a contender type team. I mean he isn't going to just go to a team like Tennessee or Cleveland or whatever. I would imagine he would prefer to go to a team like Houston or Arizona or St. Louis...but really...why leave SD...just beautiful and even if they do move the team (they have no stadium even being built yet so thats like 2/3 yrs away)...it likely would only be a season or two before he retired....made up story imo because of his contract is about to run out.

That is just dumb.  What passes for entertainment....

Yeah...well its a forum and we have kids on here....so yeah..they are easily entertained.

That's the part you guys are missing, Rivers doesn't make things up and he doesn't lie.  He's a throwback to the fifties.  He says what he means and means what he says.  The only time he "lies" is about injuries, then all bets are off, LOL!  Like lying to Kevin Acee when he had had surgery and had no ACL before the playoff game early in his career.  Really.  This is not your normal football player.

It was said yesterday, that the LA part of the equation has been over blown.  The GM, Tom Telesco has also said Rivers is his guy.  I don't think a trade happens and I think the Mariota workout is either a practice exercise for his scouting team, for future reference or a smoke screen.  Remember after all we are approaching the "lying" month!

Go ahead and trade him, it's not like the Titans are going to immediately become a contender over night with him. Who is he going to throw to? And have you seen their defense? They're bad. Rivers or no Rivers, they still will be swept by the Colts.
