Colts frontrunner to land CFL star.

Next year is next year. Plus, we need more help on defense than we do offense.

What's our biggest need right now?

Hint: It's certainly not WR.

I like the idea of this kid being fast and I hope he does picks the Colts. But is WR our biggest need? No.

How many roster moves Grigson can make before start of FA? Hint: It's certainly not 1. ;)

I have seen the kid play live in the CFL twice this year dude can run, he has skills and Montreal seemed to only have problems with one receiver that would be Chad Johnson not Duron.  Those of you who comment on how he cant be good because he plays in the CFL should maybe take a look at the speed of the game and the size of the field it is a very demanding league for receivers.

That's completely irrelevant. You don't pass up on low risk/high reward players just because you don't have an immediate need. In building a team, you have to have a good amount of foresight to have a replacement waiting in the wings ready to go when your soon departing starters (Wayne) only have a year or 2 left. Otherwise you've got a glaring need and have to scramble to fill it. Getting a low cost WR that has high upside to learn behind one of the best for a few years is a no-brainer.

Lol, WR not being our biggest need right now is completely relevant.

Absolutely not. If you have an opportunity to improve the team with a low cost/high reward player, even if its at a position of little immediate need, you still make it happen. What do we lose? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Its not drafting someone, taking someone with a supplementary pick, or giving out a huge contract. You can't lose by this move, so you make it. You're insane if you don't.

Since you don't seem like you are aware....

We can only have 53 players. We have to get rid of a player to gain a player.

Who leaves? Whalen is too good to let go. He only catches everything that's thrown to him when he gets to play.

Nicks will not be here next year. Therefore we need someone to fill his roster spot, why not sign Carter and save the draft for more pressing needs?

If signed, he won't be able to join the team until the offseason, which we can keep 90 on the roster. If you were thinking he would be added to the current roster and have to drop someone off the 53 man roster, I can understand your confusion.

Nothing changes the fact that somebody has to leave in order to gain a player.

Unless Goodell in his infinite wisdom decides to add the amount of players allowed on the active roster.

Are you worried if the 90th player on the Colts is Carter or some TBD UDFA?

Thank you!    Bless you!    May the Good Lord protect you and keep you safe!!   (And I'm not even religious!)

It's stunning to me how many don't understand what you're saying.

Signing the kid costs us nothing but money.     Doesn't prevent us from doing what we want.

And if Grigson wants him,  and Pagano signs off,  then I'm certainly willing to support the decision until proven otherwise....

Lol I'm not worried about anything. I'm all for him taking Nicks spot.

And there's 53 on the active roster.

We're talking about him not being able to be added to the team until the offseason, where we carry a 90 man roster. If he ends up making it onto the 53, that means he earned it through OTA's and TC. You might want to take an extra moment to read, re-read, and triple read the posts that you're responding to, because I dint think you realize what you're saying.

Nor am I, but I'll take it! Lol

Dear God...

This potential signing say nothing about the Colts' biggest need nor does it mean those needs won't be addressed nor does it mean he is not looking at ways to solve this year's issues.  It is simply being forward looking and trying to build a roster for the long term.

With Nicks and possibly Wayne leaving.. Another WR sure wouldn't hurt..

Lol, I said WR isn't a need this year, and I agree with you knuckleheads for getting this guy next year.

Relax

You kept saying that we shouldn't waste the roster spot this season, but it's ok next season. We're just telling you that the earliest he could be on our roster is next season, so it's a non-issue. As long as we're on the same level, we're good here.

    • Welcome back.   After taking a month off, you’ve returned.   I’m not sure where to start, so let’s try the night the Colts drafted Mitchell.  Late that night, you and another high profile Ballard-Hater had this conversation:  That you didn’t like CBs defense of Mitchell.  His big speech.  Why?  Because you guys agreed that “Ballard didn’t know enough about Mitchell to know if he was a good guy or not.”   Your words.     When my chin came off the floor and my eyes back in my head I thought this:   Why would you OR the fans of any team ever think that what a GM shares on draft night is all he knows?   Because it isn’t.  A GM is sharing all that he wants to share, nothing more.  But what he doesn’t share is much, much more than what he does share.  Think an iceberg;  10 percent above water,  90 percent below.   A GM knows far more than he ever shares.    And now you make this argument….   If Mitchell doesn’t work out, Ballard has left himself open to criticism.   Two words:  who cares?   A GM can’t do his job well if he’s afraid of criticism.  Do you think the Steelers care that George Pickens is totally crazy?   No.  They care he makes big plays for Pittsburgh and catches first downs and touchdowns.  Mike Tomlin deals with the crazy part in private.   A GM has to have thick skin.  Ballard clearly does.   And he doesn’t care what others think of him.  Nor should he.     So far Mitchell seems to enjoy Indy.   I think the odds are good Ballard and Steichen can handle whatever baggage the kid brings.
    • Unbelievable.  Tell me, what’s the criteria for being a spoiled brat?     Because all the other rookie WR’s have clauses in their contracts too.   The Colts do a great job of signing players.  This signing doesn’t seem to bother the Colts, yet it bothers you enough to call Mitchell a spoiled brat.  Over nothing much out of the ordinary.  Thats why players have agents.  It’s why the Colts have Mike Bluem.     You remain your own worst enemy.     Goodness gracious.
    • When the Colts drafted Goncalves they said they think he could play 4 positions at the NFL level.   All but Left Tackle.  So he is not a replacement for Raimann.   odds are Goncalves will play RG and some RT.    I’m a Cosell fan.  He’s forgotten more about football than anyone here knows.  But his opinion on Raimann is beyond head scratching.    Raimann scored in the low to mid 70’s his rookie year.  Then scored in the low 80’s last year.   I don’t know what he thinks of PFF scores,  but there is more to this opinion than meets the eye.  Something doesn’t add up at all.
    • I think his professional career is very slim. Not sure if you remember Vick Ballard but he had similar injuries and he was pretty much done with football after. Not to say that Scott can’t come back it’s completely possible but to rehab and have to get over the mental aspect of things it’s gonna be hard.
    • Not a big deal at this time, but I hope AR is 100% by the time he takes contact in a real game. Don't want this to be a regular occurrence, especially when you combine his reckless playing style with the injury. I hope he can play all year. Last thing we need is him getting nagging injuries every game.
