NFLN's Daniel Jeremiah 3-round AFC South Mock.....

Recommended Posts

The Network is doing division by division....  a 3-round mock for each team...   (good idea)

And here is his 3-round mock for the AFC South....

((Spoiler Alert))    There are no trades...   he has teams picking where they are set to pick.

For the Colts...

1.  Tank Carradine... DE/OLB Florida State.   Jeremiah seems to imply he'd be the OLB opposite Robert Mathis.    That said,  I'm not sure Jeremiah knows Mathis is being moved to the weakside.

3.  Christine Michael....   RB TA&M       Jeremiah acknowledges that Michael was in the A&M doghouse with the new head coach.  But says if the Colts can get his head right,  then they'd have a terrific talent.    His tape is impressive.

Enjoy!

The more I hear Jeremiah give his analysis on players and where he projects them to go, the more I realize why he's no longer employed by an NFL team. He don't really seem to know anything about the teams where he projects players to go.

I think you're being unduly harsh.....

You're expecting him to be an expert on all 32 teams!?

Heck,  most scouts have enough trouble being an expert on the one team they work for.

Both players he's picked for the Colts are talented guys.   Carradine seems to appear on many mocks at the bottom of the first round.    Michael in the 3rd round seems reasonable.   I'm not sure what you're objecting to??

I think if a guy choose's to wok for a network who's job it is to know the teams very well and project players to go to those teams, then they should research it a little more. Carridine is coming off an ACL surgury and IMO should push him down to a day 2 prospect. I also think RB for us in the 3rd rd. over an O-lineman is just not a good projection. Anybody that has done even slightest amount of research on our team should know that O-line still needs to be addressed even with our FA additions. I don't see anyway we wait till the 4th rd. to address it IMO. I guess it all does come down to opinions, but RB shouldn't even be in the discussion IMO before rd. 5.

I think it is fair to be harsh on Jeremiah's knowledge here.  His commentary suggests he doesn't understand our depth chart.  We've hired a specialist in our depth chart at OLB - name is Erik Walden - to start opposite Mathis.  Who is going to rush on passing downs opposite Mathis could be Hughes or up in the air with a first round pick in contention, but the starter is our version of Jarrett Johnson and that isn't likely to change.  If he has done that analysis and reaches the conclusion that we'll draft Carradine - no problem, but he should also reach the conclusion that Carradine, by body type and skill set, is much more likely to be Mathis's understudy to rush LB role than the Hybrid backer role that Walden and Hughes are competing for.  His job includes being "absorbed" with all 32 depth charts and their off-season nuances day to day.  I have a solid handle on most of them just by tracking the news and depth chart updates on Ourlads.com (Ourlads has some misses but you can find them easily enough by comparing them with the latest updates on Rotoworld ticker or wherever you get your news).  If I do this as a fan, I'd certainly expect him to do it for his job to give me information as a fan.  Suggest Carradine as a situational rusher from any position and it is credible (you can even suggest he might beat Mathis out as the starting rush LB if your want- not that I'd agree) but to call him the starter opposite Mathis looks like poor analysis worthy of criticism.

If the guys going to make a post about the team and who he thinks they are gonna be drafting he better be an expert on that team... Thats what hes paid for. I feel like its his job to be an expert on all 32 teams.

2 things

1.He tore the ACL in November-The average recovery time from a torn ACL appears to be 6 to 9 months according to numerous Med sites

2.While he looks like a stud (prior to the injury) I agree day 2 would likely be a safer bet, in which case depending on whos available I have no problem trading down for him, I think he has pro bowl potential

Well.....     I've got bad news for you.    There's no one on any network, whether it's the NFL Network or ESPN or anyplace else that is an 'expert' on every team.    So, I think you and others here are going to be disappointed from time to time...

assuming this isn't just a large 3 round mock draft where they simply pull out the picks for individual teams, (which it has to be to go around and do every division) the guy would be drafting for an entire division. The guys in the NFL who get paid for this are in no way shape get this right all the time, and all they do is focus on which guys fit their schemes the right, they don't try and do an entire division.

You are being somewhat unrealistic here with your expectations. These media guys do everything they can to get to know the surface level of a team, because 32 surface level understandings of an organization is a ton of information. I would bet, its significantly more information to understand and keep straight than it would be to be an expert on one team.

That said the media are still *s and are wrong more than they are right (for the exact reason that they can't be experts on everything at once).

No. I just believe that with a little more research done on the roster, that I don't see how you project a guy that probably won't be ready by the beginning of the season to go in the 1st rd. and then a RB with our 2nd pick, even though it's a 3rd rd. pick. Plus here while back I seen him project Te'o to us and before that he had us taking a NT in the 1st rd.. I think with more time and effort studying the roster, it would be an easy conclusion that none of those picks make a ton of sense.

Considering Moala, McKinney and Chapman are all coming off ACL tears.....do we REALLY want to spend the #24 pick on another Front 7 player dealing with that injury.

I don't.

And I'm skeptical about this "ACL is the new sprained ankle" mantra. There is no where near the sample size of NFL players over a 3-4 year period of time to bear out that level of optimism. Not enough to convince me we should spend the #24 on a guy coming off an ACL anyway.

A fair number of people seem to think Carradine stands a decent chance of being ready for the '13 season.   He's appeared in a number of NFLN mocks as a 1st round possible.

And there are clearly arguments for taking Michael in the 3rd,  Teo in the first as well as some of the NT's in the first.

Now,  those aren't positions I hold or support,  but that doesn't mean there aren't arguments for it.    It all depends on your point of view....

So I don't think any of his positions are enough to make me say he shouldn't have a job as a scout for an NFL team or the Network he works for.

As I've stated......  I think you're way too harsh on Jeremiah.....

I if Cooper was gone and Damontre Moore and Bjoern Werner and Jarvis Jones and I think they all have  a high probability of being gone, if we could trade down to get him then even better if teams dont feel like he will be ready for the season

yep...   dude had NO clue......

He got the position, and possibly player right in round one...    I can buy that scenario....

BUT a RB in the 3rd?  With NO second round pick?    And Brown, Ballard, and Carter ON the roster?

Sigh.......   Just another lazy writer....

Those guys being gone is a good bet....but I'd prefer Datone Jones or Sylvester Williams if a trade down isn't an option.

If Tank had not gotten the injury I'd be fine with it....but another Front 7 guy with an ACL just spooks me.

yeah I see your point and a 1st round pick should be as close to a sure bet as possible without actually being one, very tempting though

Aren't you one of the guys who takes BPA literally? If so, why does it matter what position?

I'll take a stab....       because Indy is REALLY weak in other areas.

QB, TE, MLB, and RB are the positions I totally do NOT expect Indy to hit with the first 3 picks. (through the 4th)

IMO Indy needs to get a pass rusher first and foremost.   Then upgrade the OL some more.   Then upgrade WR......

Then CB....  So many more pressing areas of need rather than RB

No, I have never taken BPA literally, In fact, I have said many times here that GM's will pick BPA at a position of need. I have never believed when GM's always say they go BPA, but then it just so happened to be a player that was a huge need for the team. BPA is a company line that GM's want fans to believe.

EDIT: I also might add that BPA is highly ambiguous from team to team and person to person. So no matter who is picked the GM can always claim he was BPA.

That's fine. But BPA for this team means everything but QB, if taken literally.

Oh I would take Ogletree or  Arthur...   sp?      Don't care..

But not any of the other "classic" MLB....     you can get them anywhere.

Ogletree and Art are "play makers" ...     they can play anywhere along the line.          I like them.

But I think outside of the box...  I am not confined to the standard definitions of "position" ...

:goodluck:

Why wouldn't we take a MLB?

Seriously...       when a team is stacked at 4 "positions" and "weak" at 6 others do you really expect any "non established" team to upgrade a spot that doesn't need upgrading?

It's just stupid and doesn't happen unless a team like the 49ers that is loaded and loaded with picks does it.

But fear not ...    San Fran's  little reign of terror will be over soon..

Start winning and every one wants PAID.    Can't keep em all.

Not really an opinion, but ok. BPA doesn't mean you look at three weaknesses and pick players from their position.

I think there are a couple of teams like the Patriots who pick BPA and are obviously successful at it.

I don't think there are many good prospects at MLB that are worthy of a top 50 pick. If we trade down, anything could happen. But given where we're picking right now, I don't see MLB happening. Not until later in the draft.
