They will need a QB at some point.

No question, but their o-line is a train wreck. Other than center, they seem to need help everywhere.

You may be right. Jets fans say that the biggest needs are on OL. I did not realize Mekhi Becton was a free agent. He is only 24. The Jets have Alijah Vera-Tucker and Joe Tippmann, both of whom were well-regarded.

They have a 5th year option on Becton, but their cap situation is not good. I don't think they can afford to pick it up. They need guards, another tackle, and some kind of receiving weapon to take some heat off Wilson. Haven't looked at the defense yet, but they were pretty good on that side of the ball. Makes me realize how much better the situation is for the Colts.

Out of curiosity, are we following specific rules for trading or do possible trade partners figure it out amongst themselves?

The GMs have always figured it out amongst themselves in the past and notify the commish after everything has been agreed on. Then the commish would interfere ONLY if it is a lop sided trade (like trading DaVante Adams for a 4th or 5th rounder etc. :))

Yes, GMs can PM among themselves, and when they finalize, they need to inform commish (just add commish to the PM chat at that point or earlier).. once all parties are in agreement, either the commish or GM involved can announce the trade, and the draft order will be updated.

Having to draft a QB is sometimes a blessing, and could sometimes be curse - taking you away from other elite talents, especially if the favored QBs are already taken earlier in the draft. I don't envy that situation during the draft :)

I'll give a couple of days time (the weekend) for regulars like @danlhart87, @RNGDShobby or anyone else interested to check in their interests.

I reached out to @RNGDShobby And he replied that he won't be able to make it this year.

I also reached out to Dan but he has not replied.

Their defense is really good!

Exactly. Remember when we drafted Christian Ponder? What a reach! I loved Rick Spielman (former Vikes GM), but he was not good at drafting QBs.

BTW, am I allowed to trade Justin Fields? If I am allowed to do it, I'd like to hear some offers for him. It might help me with maneuvering around the draft since the Bears don't really have a ton of picks in this draft. Cheers

Players' trades are NOT included usually, and that would be the case this year. We can act like Fields is relegated to top backup QB in the league :) and Bears may do so too.

I think the Bears will likely get at least one second rounder for him by someone in the real world. I guess we will see soon enough, but not sure there will be much interest in him here...

I think he definitely would get a second round pick for Bears, and not a first round draft pick for sure. He's still a very high level athlete who could score a lot by his legs, and teams with good all round roster like Steelers could go for him. After all, they won with Trubisky, Rudolph, Pickett and the likes, Fields gives much better chance than any of them. Some team will definitely trade for him, if Bears decide to move on from him.

It is likely that the Bears will trade Fields before the Mock Draft.

Only 5...

Mock draft goes at full speed for first 4 rounds and then loses steam 🚂 after that, and Bears have 5 premium picks in these 4 rounds. I'm sure there will be trade requests for both of the top 10 picks. As you said, Bears may get value in more picks, and they're going to be active in free agency as well to fill some needs.

Since we’ve settled in on going after QB this draft, we’ve decided to trade Sam Howell to the Seahawks. We appreciate the work Sam put in while here in Washington but we want to do what is best for him and his future as well as moving forward with our plans for the future of the Commanders.

We will receive picks 78 and 152 in exchange for Howell, picks 102 and 179.

Is it okay if I back out of this draft? I have some health matters I'm dealing with. I'm not sure I can commit to this right now. To much life things going on right now. I would appreciate it if I can back out. Not that I want to. Hopefully I can get back to normal health. Thanks!!

Sure, you can always come back and check around draft time.

What happens is we'd end up with few GMs taking extra duty taking 2 or 3 teams during the draft, so if you want to come back and join during the draft, there will be no problem assigning a team back for you.

Take Care.

I'm surprised Howell got good returns, he did have some great games and earned lots of recognition.

Yea I think he did enough for a tan to take a flower on him. I think he showed he could at least be a solid backup with some upside.

    • I'm not saying he is about to be a sack machine but you can see some of his potential as a one gap penetrator with that frame.
    • Davis came from Alabama. My point of interest as the writer highlighted is he is moving from being a 2 gapper into now only being responsible for a single gap with a lot more penetration from him versus read and react. With his length and power at 6ft 7 300 plus the expectation for him in our scheme is he will be more disruptive. A much more reliable option for us if Grover goes down in addition to whatever else maybe we can do with him.
    • Thank you. You guys are too kind, but I truly appreciate the support.    Perhaps I am being too hard on myself… But my point still stands that anyone who makes it to the NFL, whether practice squad or starter, has achieved something prestigious that only a rare few ever achieve.    Over a million high schoolers play. Of those only 7.8 percent move on to play in college.    Over 80,000 people play in college. Only 0.4 percent make it to opening day in the NFL.    Only 2,016 players make it to NFL rosters.
    • Davis had a very good rookie season after being drafted in the 2nd round out of Ohio State (I believe).   Graded in the 70’s against both the run and pass.      But his last three years have been disappointing, as he’s graded in the mid-50’s.   The reason I’m so interested in this signing, is (A) I’m sure it was heavily influenced by the new DL coach, Partridge.   And (B) we’re paying him 2/14.  I don’t recall that kind of money ever being given to a basic backup before.   Don’t think Davis is here to push Stewart, the Colts just signed him to 3/39.  That tells me the Colts defensive staff sees him differently.   I don’t know what the plan the staff has come up with for Davis, but I’m looking forward to watching it play out.
