We Could Get Chase Minnifield In The 3Rd Round

Recommended Posts

That's right, I was kinda wrong. I thought that Chase Minnifield would go in the 2nd round, but looking at it now and watching countless tapes and looking at his stats, he looks like a mid to late 2nd round pick. Now, add in a knee injury and an unimpressive pro day due to that injury, and you could be looking at a slide. I say he's more of a early to mid 3rd round pick now. So, with all of this being said, let's get him in the 3rd round and maybe look at a NT or a OG in the 2nd round.

Thoughts?

Jayron Hosley at 34 is a bit of a reach. I'd be all for going Kirkpatrick or Jenkins at 34 but that's about it at CB. At 65 we really need to get Alameda Ta'amu if he's there. There will be some good CBs in the 4th like Jamell Fleming and Leonard Johnson.

Kirkpatrick will not be there. Jenkins will probably not be there. Johnson will not be there in the 4th. Fleming may be. You've got me thinking though, because it is a CB heavy draft.....

I gotta take a serious look at every possible prospect that the Colts could take, look at all their tapes and then make a decision.

The Colts could take Josh Chapman with their (probable) 4th round compensatory pick. His draft stock is falling due to that knee injury he had, but he's still a very good NT.

There are so many quality CBs this year that a 2nd round quality CB will be there in the 4th. It wouldn't even surprise me if Minnifield was available in the 4th after his injury and bad combine. Leonard Johnson has fallen to late 3rd early 4th because he had a disappointing combine and he is slightly undersized.

Morris Claiborne is undersized, but he's still going to be a top 5 pick. I just like to see the Colts eliminate CB from their list of needs and I think going CB-CB in rounds 2 and 3 would do that. Then, they could get Chapman and Jenkins in the 4th round. Then get a guy like Phil Blake in the 5th round.

I like Josh Chapman but he won't be ready the beginning of the year, and he needs to add a little weight to be a 3-4 NT. I like Nicolas Jean-Baptiste from Baylor in the 5th or 6th round if he's there and we miss out on Ta'amu

I wouldn't say Morris Claiborne is undersized. He's 5-11 188lbs which is pretty similar to Darrelle Revis. Leonard Johnson is 5-10 196lbs but had a 4.65 compared to Claiborne's 4.47. There are a number of CBs I think will be drafted ahead of Johnson. I don't think center is a need any longer with the signings of Setele, Kirkpatrick, McGlynn and Shipley.

He's 5'11? I thought he was 5'10. Either way, we've seen undersized CBs perform well in this league, Jerraud Powers, Brandon Flowers, and list goes on and on. Phil Blake can also play guard.

Baptiste is a good prospect, but if everyone is scared about Chapman, then that means he'll just fall further and maybe we could snag him.

Leonard Johnson can be good in the league, I'm just saying he could fall in this draft because of a bad combine and the fact that it's a very CB heavy draft. I haven't heard much about Blake playing OG but that's interesting. Getting Chapman later in the draft would be a steal, I'd be happy with that.

And yeah Morris Claiborne measured in at 5-11 and Johnson at 5-10.

He's a guy I REALLY want for the Colts. I really hope we can land him at the top of the 4th. If we cant, hopefully we can get some draft picks for Freeney and use one of them on AJ Jenkins.

I don't think Freeney is getting traded, there are no talks between the Colts and any other team for him.

Robert Mathis keeps saying on Twitter that he thinks Freeney will be back next season, so we just need to get his contract extended so we can bring in another FA.

I also like Jenkins in the 4th, but I would like to take a WR in the 2nd as well. I would like Alshon or Randle or Wright if he was to fall. We need a number 2 and a future number 1 and a future number 2. Luck is going to need weapons and I would rather add those while they can learn from one of the best route runners ever in Reggie not to mention one of the hardest working WRs that isnt all about drama.

I still like Casey Hayward in 4th, or trade down with our first 3rd round pick and grab him mid 3rd if there not sure he will be there at the top of the 4th. With that we could use the 2nd pick to grab the best defensive player that slides. With guys like Fleener, Wright, and hill all solidifying their stock at first round a quality defensive player or 2 could slide. Ive heard Devon Still might slide, which would be a great pick up. As well as Dont'a Hightower, personally i dont see that, but id be thrilled if he did.

I dont see what the fuss is all about with Alshon Jeffery. I see better talent then that in the 4th to 5th! Not worth a number 2 at all.

OG or WR in the second. Don't think theres a NT worth the 34 pick. I like Robinson, Boykins and Bentley better than Minnifield. He was a fringe first rounder when the season ended but stock has dropped hard. He is smaller than listed, bad pro day, injured. Maybe in the 4th

If Jeffrey runs a great 40 at his pro day, he could move back into the first round. A month ago people had him as a top 10 pick. He wont get out of the second round. He is a big physical receiver who catches everything thrown his way. He might not get great separation from the best corners in the league but watch his tape. He needs very little space to make a catch. Amazing in traffic. Deadly in the redzone. I'd be happy with him at 34. He will be a quality #2 WR in the NFL. Maybe better.

^Konz wont make it past the Packers and Ta'amu along with Poe are the only true NTs so if we want him heck have to be our 2nd rd pick. As for Minnifield and Hayward theyre zone guys only and not that great. If we take a corner theyll be versatile ones that can play man/zone outside and inside. Chuck likes guys he can move around send on blitzes etc etc.

This isnt college anymore. If you dont get separation you dont get the ball. Period. Thats where int's come in. Id much rather get a guy 15 lbs lighter, maybe a couple inches shorter. But a guy that runs great routes, gets separation and has a work ethic to be the best. Those 3 things added with a great pair of hands makes a receiver. Not size. I hope a team grabs him in the first, it just increases our chance to have a star defensive player fall. *crosses fingers* Please be Stills or Hightower!!

Now this is my mock draft:

1. Luck (QB)

2. Fleener (TE)

3. Minnifield (CB)

4. Jenkins (WR)

4C. Blake (C/G)

5. Baptiste (NT)

5C. Owusu (WR)

6. Lindley (QB)

7. Dye (SS)

I like it, but unfortunately I see the giants taking Fleener at 32. Hopefully that doesn't happen because TE is now a very important hole to fill.

I see that too unfortunately, but there is the possibility they pass. They could use some D help, b/c their D wasn't great during the reg. season. If that's the case, then we should get Fleener. Also, history shows us they love taking D in the first.

I really like this

But with the addition of Stanton, I guess we can disregard Lindley and change that for a CB. I'm looking at Cliff Harris of Oregon. Played in a good D, good ball skills and he is a punt returner too.

I disagree. The best receivers make great catches in traffic. He can make separation. In the bowl game, he schooled Denard who shut down top receivers all year. Many receivers people on this board really like. If he runs a faster 40, he will be valuable.

    • I thought it looked like it was drawn on with a marker or something. You can see it briefly in the video too
    • Then after the game he acts like this…   Just throw the whole * dude away, he’s just garbage top to bottom. Hopefully the league drops the hammer on his dumb * and he’ll have plenty of time for podcasting. What a piece of %.
    • I respect this Knicks team, their fans and media not so much. They think they are better than us because they live in a big city. Snobby to be honest. I remember the 90's when they were mocking us 'being Country like' and calling us Hayseeds. They have all the big celebrities that go to their games, like Spike, Jon Stewart, Tracy Morgan, etc..  My early look at this series:   -Brunson is going to be a problem, he is a Superstar, Haliburton is as well but not as consistent as Brunson is at scoring the ball. Haliburton is a better passer though, that is almost a wash. Brunson may be a tad better, but the Pacers have McConnell as well for depth, see my next point.   -Pacers have more depth   -Pacers are a better 3-point shooting team   -Pacers are a better Offensive team   -Knicks are better defensive team   -Knicks have HCA   This series is going to end up 2 ways. Either Pacers in 6 or Knicks in 7. Pacers will win in 6, if we can get one of 1st 2 games. If we fall behind 2-0, I doubt we can win 4 out of 5 against them.    Rebounding will be a huge key to this series as well. The team that gets a lot of 2nd chance points, will be the team that will probably win. The Pacers have the better Big's with Turner and Pascal but the Knicks are a scrappy bunch.
    • He’s our dog man.  I gotta feeling he’s going to be a monster.
    • the thing is, our game changing TE may be on the roster in jelani woods.  He just has to stay healthy.  Remember that stretch of games where he scored a touchdown in every game he played in until he got hurt?     idk what injury bug bit him, but I hope it doesn’t bite him again this season.
