Simms & Lefkoe: The ultimate Quenton Nelson interview

stitches

Recommended Posts

Quenton is famous for not liking giving interviews and not many people get a lot out of him. I think this is the best interview he's ever given with most information he's disclosed and most personality he's shown. Props to Simms and Lefkoe...

(Go to 33:44 for the interview)

He talks about:

- the not so cold weather in Kansas city

- the screaming video and his reaction to it(not pleased)

- evaluation of his game and what he wants to be(spoiler: doesn't think he's the best in the league, but wants to be)

- who he likes at his position

- who he had most problems with

- eating in-season and off-season

- what attracted him to Notre Dame

- Andrew Luck and Darius Leonard

- DeGuglielmo

- how the Colts faked him in the pre-draft process - no visit, not private workout, very short interview, etc.

- etc.

Good to see him coming out of his shell a bit more. Wish it was a bit more of a serious interview though, the "how much do you eat" questions for a lineman are a bit obvious and boring.

Loved when they got into football chat though.

Lefkoe saying OROY was between Q, Saquon and Johnny Manziel was a joke

It was good to see him chat it up a bit...like the OP said, this is probably the most we've heard him talk.  He's very humble and has great respect for his peers on other teams.

Someday (if not already in some cases) opposing DL will look at the schedule and say, Oh, crap they have Big Q.

My fave takeaways in no particular order:

1. Jim Irsay is the type of owner you want to have. Cares about the team and winning.

2. Andrew Luck giving nerdy bus tours. :’)

3. 342 LBS?! That’s a lot of human.

4. Q’s surprise at being drafted 6 by the Colts.

5. He said more than 10 words.

6. His comments about Geno Atkins and NFL level talent.

Nice, fun listen. That could end up being the longest interview of his career lol.

Also, first time I've heard Big Q mention his back troubles himself after Baldy brought up the two bulging discs the other day. Which really, all Nelson said was his back hurt real bad playing against Geno Atkins, but still.
