They weren't "welcomed back" to hang around on the sidelines.  They were hired as part of the team.  If Manning was hired in that capacity, I would think he would be at TC too.

I certainly wouldn't think PM could just show up during a game and walk along the sideline because he's PM.  TCs sort of the same thing, just less intense and visible.

They absolutely invite former "alumni" players to come hang out and watch camp/ practice. These guys werent there coaching.

That was his big issues coming into the draft. Hand usage, counters, and just a general lack of a pass rushing arsenal. Luckily these things are extremely coachable. It may take a bit, but I think as soon as it clicks, he'll be really good.

Back on topic...

Well, he's got a great player to learn from.  If Mathis is half as good at coaching as he was a player, our edge guys will be very good.  Just need some game experience at this level.  I am hopeful.

Fine.   There aren't many who would cast a big shadow, so nobody cares about them.

I doubt GB would want Farve hanging around TC a few years after he left, considering what they drafted Rodgers to be (notwithstanding the fact that Farve seems like a perpetual grudge holder).

The reason PM is in Denver's TC and not here seems obvious to me, but I guess I'm in my own world.

But Irsay might bring PM to practice next month.  I wouldn't do it.

Peyton went to Raiders camp as well.   Not a big deal

Sure.  PM considers himself  a Bronco more than he does a Colt, at the present time, doesn't he?

And if PM learns to be an exec from Elway, whatever role he has with the Broncos now wouldn't prevent him from taking over the Colts some day.

I believe he "considers himself" a retired, future NFL HOF recipient, with endless possibilities.

I can't speak for Peyton so I don't know which he considers himself.

That said, we might be falling down the rabbit hole a bit much.

I don't either, for sure.  Its probably the Broncos until enough time passes.

Other than the ceremony his first game back, and maybe the statue dedication recognizing his time here as a player, has PM done anything affiliated with the Colts organization during the active season since he left?

I seriously doubt he considers himself more of a Bronco than he does a Colt. Even in his retirement speech, Peyton said he would always be a Colt. He also has a statue here which he will never have in Denver. So I am sure his heart is here in Indy anyway, he just happens to live in Colorado so it's convenient for him to attend a teams Camp that he finished his career with and won a SB with. I don't think it's a big deal, if he chose to visit our Camp I don't see why it would be a big deal either? He was loved here and is well respected so IMO I don't think he would be a distraction. Some people think he has a grudge against Irsay because Irsay let him go back in 2011. I think that is nonsense but that is my opinion.

Simon > Basham

So far, You are absolutely correct. All things considered, Simon has been in the league much longer than Basham. It would be great for Basham to move to the next level this year as a premiere pass rusher now that he's back to his natural position of DE.

A nondramatic brain.

Ok smart aleck, then you speculate as to why he's at Denver and not here.

Because he's an unprofessional putz who hates Irsay for cutting him?...what's the term....dissed him?  Because he, like many in your world, hold perpetual grudges because they still haven't evolved beyond the tribal mindset?

He's a Bronco.  He retired a Bronco.  We have Luck and a new GM which generates excitement.  Denver has nobody.  Its obvious.  Either he doesn't want to be here (at this time), or the Colts want to move on.

If Manning were here, hanging around, would that invite a comparison between Luck and Manning?  Would Luck be in his shadow, even for a day?

Nobody cares that Case Keenum is in PMs shadow because he was simply hired to play QB, not to be the face of the franchise.  Denver has none, so they trot out Manning.

And you think I'M being dramatic?

Look at the nonsense you just wrote.     Drama is your middle name.

Goodness gracious.......

Not necessarily the guy I would be learning from... He seemed like some Front Office guru initially, but I think he just managed to bring in the right mix of veterans to compliment the talent that was already on the roster when they were so good. As soon as PM retired and they lost a few key players to FA, he hasn't been able to restock the talent, ESPECIALLY at QB.

    • Partridge just seems like players will love playing for him.     The little I have saw from him, just gives me more hope that he will take the DL to the next level with his coaching.
    • Picking it up, guarantees he doesn't walk out the door after next season.   Gives you 2 more years to evaluate. Pretty cheaply too. 2yrs $17.5m.   Don't see any reason to roll the dice, might only get more expensive, if his trajectory keeps going up this year.     Projected to have $56-$70m in cap next year, with his option already figured in.
    • Declining the option doesnt mean they are letting him walk.  It does happen often when the option is declined but 13.5 is a lot for him   I doubt they will pick it up today
    • They seemed really high on Goncalves. Obviously they traded up for him, but sometimes in past draft videos, you see Ballard satisfied to make a pick just because he is highest on their board. But with Goncalves, its clear they were really pro-active in in ensure they took him.
    • Some things that made an impression on me:   - we did try to move up. I wonder for who? Last year Arizona put up a similar video after the draft, I would love to see if they show the Colts calling them for 4 this year...    - we DID meet with Laiatu. Seems like it was at the combine, probably one of those quick 15 minute ones and he probably had tons of them and didn't remember this specific one. I love that as a throwaway question as he was walking out they asked him what he's going to run... he said in the 4.6s ... and he went out and did it. There is something about a prospect who promises something and then hours later goes out and delivers on that promise. Especially in athletic sense since he wasn't one of those prospects that had athleticism as his calling card. On the rest of the video... I like him... he looks like a genuine guy who loves every step of this process and enjoys it. Love how excited Partridge was too... what a vote of confidence for him as a new coach not just on this team but in the league - give him the best pass-rusher in the draft to work with.    - everything in the bit about AD Mitchell was about his talent. "Way too talented to pass up here"... Every single word we got from scouts, coaches, FO members... everything was about his talent. Not a word about the character/attitude stuff. Not one. Now it's obvious to me they probably cut off some of that stuff, but interesting to see what the Colts want to portray about the player. So yeah... with AD it's all about the talent. For whatever it's worth, he looked like a pretty chill dude in the interview they showed. Part of the rumors that were floating around was that his interview with one team was so bad that within the first minute of the interview they knew they wouldn't be drafting him. I guess we will never know what exactly all that was about. In the grand scheme of things... it's all on him now... just like with Stroud, none of the noise will matter if he comes out and works his tail off and shuts up every naysayer in the world.    - Matt Goncalvez seems to be the favorite player of the Colts in this draft. Kind of like Khari was a few years ago. "culture fit" is probably the best descriptor here from the video. They love his personality and they love his attitude. One of the best calls/reactions to getting drafted you will ever see/hear... kind of reminiscent with the Downs one last year. I don't know where exactly he will fit on the field... but he will fit somewhere. They will give him chances... he has all the good will of that coaching staff and that FO.    - Bortolini - impressed in the workout. IMO he will be understudy to Kelly... the new Pinter I guess? Probably won't start right away, but he has clear role IMO.   - They seem very optimistic about Carlies ability to translate to linebacker. Looking at some of those highlights they showed... he does look like EJ Speed or Shaq or Okereke... with his speed in pursuit. They mentioned him potentially covering TEs. I can see it.    - Loved seeing Ballard giving Jamie Moore the chance to make the call to the guy he's been fighting for throughout this whole draft season(Jaylin Simpson). Good gesture by Ballard, bet it was a great feeling for Moore.    - In general I love all those calls and videos of the reactions by the prospects. Seeing young prospects achieve one of the big goals of their lives and starting their paths to even bigger things, is awesome. Love it.    - "That's not a prank call, is it?"
