I get what you're saying CBE, but I always remember Jeff Saturday saying basically if you're on the bubble [on the verge of either being retained or cut] you need those games all 4 to make the best impression & prove your worth to a coaching staff.

Jeff by his own admission was on that bubble himself once before he became the legendary Center INDY knows & reveres man.

True but you can tell a lot by practices as well to who looks good and who doesn't.

Hasn't the practice time been  limited by the collective bargaining agreement?

I think the Colts are a good example of a team that needs all 4 pre season games.   This year anyway.   Granted, some teams may not feel the need.

I am just not a big Pre-Season guy. I think 2 games would be enough, maybe 3 since some guys rely on Pre-Season play to make a team with great play.

So what did you expect? Chuck was coaching bubbles players, first year to the Colts players and rookies.

So did the Patriots look like a Belichick coached team yesterday?

Can't believe it took this long to point this out.

Maybe 2/3 of the snaps in this game were taken by people who will either be cut or deep depth.  For instance: here are the top 5 linemen from that game as far as snaps taken:  Redmond, Muir, Wylie, Cooper, Bond.  Are any of these 5 going to make the team, let alone play significant snaps?  One of those 5 *might* be on the opening day roster & none of them will sniff the field minus injuries or being put in during a blowout.  Does anyone think we can project how the OL will be in 2017 based on the play of these guys?  The 3 receivers that played the most were Fred Brown, Bug Howard, JoJo Natson.  1 of those 3 *might* be the #5 receiver on this team next year.  What conclusion should I draw from how the receiver group played?

How and why anyone would draw conclusions from this is beyond me.  I'll chalk it up to desperation to talk about something after a long off season.

I don't know. A hammer can also remove nails & other debris depending on which end you are using CL.

I think I get your point of view that you think Pagano is using players wrong, but I fail to see how your comparison between milk & Bull DNA applies in this case. Pagano isn't stupid. His playoff percentage may not be to your liking, but he's not a fool.

Never said I thought Pagano was stupid. I don't think that. I think he believes he's doing the right thing staying the course he's on, and furthermore, he doesn't see viable alternatives to his approach. My point about the bull is: The ownership and FO may be asking something of Pagano that he is incapable of giving.

I'd be fine with reducing it to three with a joint practice taking place of the first game not unlike what the Colts did with the Lions.

Yeah that sounds like a good plan, if they would only do it.

Money would be what stands in the way.  Owners make money on ticket sales for pre-season games.

Personally id rather see them take away a preseason game replace it with a joint practice and add another wild card team and make the two worst teams in each conference that make the playoffs play each and extend the NFL playoffs by a week and eliminate the pro-bowl to not have to extend the calander.  However my play is unlikely as only two owners would make money off it each year where as 16 make money off a 4th pre-season game each year.

All good idea's. While we are throwing out idea's I would also like to see the team with the better record have HFA in the Playoffs. Meaning if a 4 seeded Division winner is 9-7 and a WildCard team is 10-6 at #5, the WildCard team should host. Winning your Division still matters because it gets you in the Playoffs automatically.

Thanks for the additional explanation CL. You might be right. Chuck has taken this club as far as he can take them. Jimmy will make that determination after this season one way or another as you suggest.

I just wasn't sure what your connection between milk & bull DNA meant. Now, I do. Much appreciated. :hat:

Some athletes take awhile to click & have the lightbulb turn on at the pro level. Game speed & practice rep speed are not the same thing as you are well aware CBE.

Anyone else notice that the ones posting a majority of the doomsday and the sky is falling threads are all newer members or members with less than 500 posts

I'm the OP and I've been on the board longer than you and suffered through the very lean 80's with this team and never leave their side as a fan, I just don't go comment crazy. I'm also frustrated by continued bad football pre-season or not.  I was hoping to see a flash of "different" and there was very little.  That game showed flawed fundamentals all over the place,  And yes, it's pre season and I never was concerned with the pre-season in previous years because that team had a track record, this team has a track record too and it looks just like this pre season game.  When the team looks exactly the same with different players it's a concern for me.  I love to be wrong when I see the Colts play terribly and hope that it's me not them.  Fundamental football is easy to see and define and I didn't see much of that, it must get better week two and frankly and I don't care that it's pre-season, I want to see this team improving in the basics of football.  Especially an oline where if we put a healing Luck behind the same o line, it's just not going to end well.  I'll try to make more irrelevant posts in the future to gain credibility in your eyes....I'll shoot for 500, I have 476 so I'm really close!

I think the Ugh! can be warranted again.   I expected the D line to get pushed around by the great Cowboy O line.   I didn't expect the coverage to be laying off the WR's so much.    The turnovers were nice, but I usually consider them a bonus unless it becomes consistent during the season.   The Cowboys 1st string offense ate right through the Colts 1st string defense with ease.

That being said, it is still early in the pre season so the Colts can put it together.

People really need to settle down.

The team fielded today will not be the team that takes the field in the regular season opener.

Until Jim or someone say's "Luck will indeed miss some games" I am not panicking or worrying about anything.

Freaking relax...

Are you ready to say "Ugh" yet?

Been saying "ugh" for a few years now. But you kinda have to hind under a sheet on this forum to do so. Idk maybe because I'm not an Indy native I don't know all the "inside" stories of the team. But while the rest of the world is pretty concerned about the state of the Colts, so am I lol. I wish them luck in LA, but we all know how this is going to end. Rams are now favored in this game. As we look in mid season from...with injuries.

But hey, maybe they'll prove me wrong.. that's what a fan is all about. Cheering for your team no matter what!
