Is $3 million all we save even though his contract was 8 million per year? I was happy when I thought we got a 4th and a 6th then I saw we were giving up a 6th and only saving $3 mil.

I read somewhere that we save $4.9 mill, but it was an unnamed source, so I'm not sure if it's correct or not.

I'm fine with trading Allen.

Strangely, Ballard also giving up our 6th round pick in the deal is whats irking me.

I like Ballard and believe he certainly knows what he is doing, so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on this.  Still I'm just not understanding the logic of why the 6th round pick was included.

Not much difference between a 6th and UDFA.

they (NE) moved up 15 spots on their 6th, we moved 15 down.

So we give NE D-Allen and our sixth round pick..... in return we get their fourth (compensatory) round pick.

This thread is moving too fast for me to keep up tonight and....

I have never really gotten into the draft process enough to understand all of the nuances and lingo..... I apologize if this has been addressed already......

Will someone please explain the compensatory pick thing for me. The actual draft slots do not appear to be that far off from one of our 4th round picks from what I have seen [from another member's post].  I guess maybe that is why I am confused.  Plus I am a couple of beers into it now, O.o..... whew, lol

Thanks for tolerating my ignorance..... avatar is fitting for tonight I reckon.

I have to stop, since I could literally talk for hours or days on end about how much Dwayne Allen irritated the hell out of me. I even remember when he was drafted and we all ohhh and ahhhed over his size and potential.

He also seems to get hurt an awful lot. He has stone hands and he is made of glass.

Our new GM is already better then the old one.

Even if he does well in NE don't matter, he didn't do enough here to warrant 100 dollars a year.

wasn't their compensatory, it was their inherent 4th rounder, which is a low-4 (high-5-like pick). we already had a compensatory.

I actually disagree with this. If every pick went exactly according to ranks, then yes, that would be true. The fact is though, some 5th round picks and maybe even a couple 4th rounders are going to fall to the 6th. Big difference between that and a UDFA.

Chances are the Pats also want him to get all our secrets too so they can finally beat us in a big game.

Yes that is sarcasm.

I wouldn't get too excited over this, most Pats fans laughed at the money we gave Allen too. This is probably one of those project gambles by the Pats and if it don't work out they will just cut him later.

Good riddance to the Stoney one.

A bag of used balls for an overweight TE with stone hands would have been adequate compensation. Great trade.

I would take a bag of deflated balls even in exchange. Plus one of the guns from Hernandez since it is historical now.

True...but why give up more than we really have to here?  IMO...Allen for the fourth should have been enough. Our 6th rounder was worth enough for Belichick to care to pry it from us.

So, did we swap 6th round picks or just gave them ours?  I am still hearing both in scanning the internet.  If we did just give up our sixth, we gave up DA to move up about a dozen spots?  I know we saved 3 mill or so, but this bugs me a bit.

Edit: ok bad math.  We moved up a round and a half.

Also, Brady's SB jersey. It's worth $500,000. We can sell it back to Kraft and gain some extra cap space.

Honestly, I'm stunned they got a 4th.  I figured it would be a 6 or 7.

You mean like on this play??

Allen giving up a strip sack of Luck....I know he wasn't awful but he wasn't Travis Kelce either...was entirely avg.

that is a te going up against clowney, who did the same thing to tackles throughout the league... allen was meant for helping block, not all by himself.

It was a joke...I know he shouldn't have been blocking him but lets not act like his blocking was out of this world....hardly irreplaceable.

Okay, well I thought I had seen a few post that it was NE's compensatory.... perhaps they were sarcastic comments.  I will keep the dunce cone on for now.

So the Pats preferred Dwayne Allen to Martellus Bennett??

4 things come to mind.

Rob Gronkowski must not be OK....

They wanted no more of Martelllus..

Our new GM preferred Doyle to Allen

Bill Belichik believes Allen is much better than we think he is

Wrong, Bennett wanted $9 million and they couldn't afford him, so they traded for Allen and his smaller salary.
