Luck vs. The Clown

Recommended Posts

In my opinion, Clowney is now the most hated man in the division for the Colts. He already has issued a warning to Luck, and instead of a Luck vs. QB rivalry, I could see Luck really wanting to take it to the Texans defense, in particular The Clown as I like to call him.

Question is yet to be determined who will come out on top. A lot depends on if we get an improved OL this year.

Luck and co will torch the Texans. Let them bring the heat. We'll counter it with our ridiculous arsenal of offensive weapons.

We def have the offense to counter their defense. And I think having Dwayne Allen really helps us since he is a tough TE who can block and help chip Clowney or Watt.

The interesting thing is that Clowney really doesn't fit the Texans defense.  He's a 4-3 DE and they are gonna try and make him a 3-4 OLB.

I say we run the ball straight at him.

Teddy Bruschi contradicted this in an interview....talking about all the fronts the Pats used under Romeo.

he might be better suited as a 4-3 hand on the ground guy but I think he'll do OK as a 3-4 OLB. I just don't think he'll ever live up to being the #1 pick. He'll be OK but I don't know if he'll be a guy who gets you 12-15 sacks a season

Yes, a lot depends on the OL but Watt has stuff Luck four times in four games and with Clowney on hand, he won't be able to be double teamed. In fact, the double may come on Clowney because our left tackle will not be able to handle him one on one. All of that frees J.J. Watt. Watt is the happiest guy in the NFL today.

I think he will be a top ten in the NFL sack artist for the next ten years unless injured.

That argument is so old and tired...and it's very seldom actually applicable.

You're so underselling Clowney.

Mayock: The best Pro Day I ever saw as a quarterback was JaMarcus Russell. . . . I’ve never seen a quarterback throw the football like that in my life, but I still couldn’t take him in the first round — the guy doesn’t care about football.

If your heart is not in it you won't make it in the NFL let's see how bad the Clown wants to be a great player before we crown him the king. He is going to have to work to be great some guys don't like to work.  He was the most physically gifted player to come out at that spot since Bruce Smith some said ever but his work ethic was such a question mark no one knew for sure he was going #1 when it should have been a no brainer. I am skeptical.

I'm hoping we get a good O-lineman in round 2. We're certainly gonna need it vs the Texans twice per year. Watt is still the big boy on that team though, Clowney's just the side kick.

Clowney hasn't done anything yet but make his work ethic call into question his draft status when there should have been no question who the top dog was.

I am with you though let's build an offensive line Luck takes to many hits and Trent could use a little room.

Like it or not Houston has one heck of a D and adding anyone to help Watt makes it better. I am glad that Mack was not the first pick as I think his is going to be better in the long run. We need to get the West Coast (or no Coast) O installed fully as ask anyone it takes 3 to 4 years to really get it rolling due to how complex it can be. Allen will needs to get back and stay back and improve the O-line (great pick at 59) and get the run game going. The key to beating Houston is going to be if they cant get any O going and with no real QB just like every other team in the AFC south outside of the Colts that still works out best for the Colts. The D should be better this year even if I am still worried about the back end even if we seem to be getting the front seven filled out and the system fully installed, again it takes a few years for that to happen and we are now in year 3. As for Clowney I do not think he will live up to the hype yet then again he is a monster of a man with great athletic ability. Remember teams become good with good first round pick but win Superbowls with the mid to late round draft picks I just hope that the Colts can hit on some of them this year and last years class makes the 'leap' this year to make them solid players for years to come.

You people are petty who call him "The Clown". Wasn't he interviewed about playing with the Texans? I find it hilarious when the forum points their collective arsenal of missiles at the latest guy to "disrespect" a Colts player. Just as i'm sure some of you will find this post dumb, I find the negative comments towards clowny that have no factual basis dumb.

    • Oh contrare, I’d say it says more about Shane Steichen’s skill set as a coach.
    • Excerpt from an article at NFL.com …     ”… One player the Colts can lean on while Richardson gets his sea legs: running back Jonathan Taylor. After last year's hold-in and injury issues, the star running back looks back to his old self. JT bursts through the line like a Mustang on fire, leaving linebackers in his wake. On Sunday, Taylor totaled 12 carries for 103 yards and +55 rushing yards over expected, his most RYOE in a game since Week 15 of 2021. He also forced five missed tackles across 14 touches.    Shane Steichen's decision to bench the star back during the entire fourth quarter because the Colts were in pass mode belies credibility. Even if Taylor isn't a prolific pass catcher out of the backfield, sitting your best offensive weapon for an entire quarter is folly -- hopefully one Steichen doesn't repeat. If defenses are going to sit back to slow Richardson's deep attack, Taylor should gobble up chunk gains.    At this point, Taylor is the most consistent thing going for Indy. The 25-year-old back owns a game-changing gear and can shoulder a massive load. His presence and production should help settle Richardson down during the roller-coaster dips. Taylor hasn't looked fully healthy in a couple of years. He did this past Sunday. The Colts need to ride that stallion.”     The above referenced article kind of echoes my feelings on the matter.
    • Exactly I am confused with that comment by Shane unless that one drop deserved him to be benched. Again coaches know what's the best.
    • I'm not sure why the team thinks JT can't be effective in the passing game.
