Pats play in the SuperDome. Brees is going to put up big points, even if Hightower plays.

Yep...very possible. I'm sure they tighten things up in the secondary but that won't change the fact that the front 7 is suspect. I would exploit those linebacker if I was Payton. I don't think they can cover or get to the qb.....I've never seen a Pats team with LBs this bad before.....I look for a lot of passes to the backs and try to get them one on one. Pats should never be counted out though....we've seen this too many times. They don't lose often...but a bad loss is just a bad loss and is more often than not just a coincidence.

The front 7 makes me nervous. Even the basic stuff (holding the edge on runs, etc) looks like it'll be an adventure this year. And for the secondary to give up TWO different 70+ yard passing TDs... not anything we've seen before out of a Belichick defense.

No other way to put it, they got their butts kicked last night. Hopefully it's a good wake-up call, much like the loss to KC in 2014.

I expect Hightower to be back....but Van Noy and Bates?? that came in....yeah did not look adequate at all....far cry from Pat LBs of years past. That versatility has always been their calling card. Flowers, Brown, Branch are decent but they don't have much depth. The secondary was inexcusable. That was a surprise. Blown coverage obviously on the Hill TD. The one to the RB was on the LB though....just got burnt. Not saying it was a great performance but I'm far less concerned there. Pats will score enough points that the defense just needs to bend not break. Usually the Pats may give up yards but not points (hold to fgs)...obviously last night turn a couple tds to fgs and that game might have had a different outcome.

Offensively do you expect with Amendola out likely a few weeks with a concussion that they go to more two TE sets with Hogan and Cooks on the outside. I don't know who else you can really bring in at WR with Dorsett so far behind in the game plan. I thought Allen played well last night and look to see him get more involved....and obviously Dorsett will now have every opportunity if he can learn to make plays...no excuses.

I don't even know where to start with the defense, lol... it was bad all around. When it's that bad it's hard to pinpoint the biggest issues. Their pass rush, ironically, seemed half-decent. But their run D and coverage was woeful. Two 70+ yard passes in the same game? Against Alex Smith??? Yikes.

Offensively, I don't think they can count on Amendola at all... he's just too fragile. I think they're going to need to get creative with their running backs. White, Lewis, and Burkhead are all decent receivers. I think Gronk will look more like Gronk once he gets a few games in... Berry really did do a great job on him last night until he got hurt. I don't know about Allen. He was only targeted twice I think, and didn't come down with either one (in fairness they weren't good throws).

So much went wrong, it's just hard to say exactly what they need to do to fix the problems. Obviously they won't be as bad as they were last night all season... at least I don't think so! In 2014 they lost the opener and I think they were 2-2 after the Chiefs blew them out on that Monday night. There's plenty of time to right the ship.

Not entirely sure why this is such a stunner to be honest. I think the only stunning thing is that it was the Pats banner raising night but thats about it. IMO the Pats also got some humble pie thrown in their faces after an offseason of "GOAT" and "28-3". You can only celebrate so long until you have to put in the work again on the field for a new season.

Chiefs were one of the few AFC contenders last season and have creamed Brady before. Losing Berry is a huge loss however.

If there is any true demise to the Pats it will be seen in the next few games if there are issues that will linger on. I can't entirely call Saints/Pats until I see how the Saints look Monday night and if their defense has improved.

I agree with your post, except the bolded.. That LB was Cassius Marsh, acquired via trade a week ago from Seattle.. where he played DE. That was on the coaching staff for putting him in that position.

I think I heard Hightower's injury is mild and he might even play week 2.

But yeah the big plays the Pats gave up made me think it was the Colts defense out there for a while LOL.

If Amendola is out a bit I even think this helps the Pats, I swear I could never get the hype over him.......

    • McConkey has knee issues that will probably remove him from the Colts board there.
    • I just knew there was going to be a run on WRs later in the first.   welp, hoping we trade up for either AD (character concerns and all) or Troy Franklin.   there is no way we can leave this draft not drafting some type of burner in this deep WR draft.     Welp, can’t be too mad.  We can’t pick ‘em all and I’m ok with who we picked.
    • I haven't paid much attention to the draft and looking OR making mocks 'cause with Ballard you usually will be disappointed...... like most on this Forum are tonight. Lol   But I wasn't surprised by a defensive linemen being picked. I didn't think he would go CB or trade up for a elite receiver or Bowers would fall to 15. And honestly I know noting about Latu  except a few highlights I seen switching from the draft and Yankee game.  I liked the highlights but not crazy about the conference he played in and  his medical history.   I was hoping for Bowers but not surprised he's not a colt especially when Denver chose the last QB and the raiders were right behind them. I heard the raiders liked Bowers and with no QB left to possibly sway them I had a feeling they would grab him. We all know it was unlikely Ballard would trade up for him(even if he had him high on his board?)   Kudos for the bears getting a great prospect, I hope they don't mess him up.  And to the Patriots for getting imo the second best QB. The Falcons getting Pence for life after Cousins(which may be sooner than later) I think was a good move.
    • I mean, i kinda ma because in year 4 Trey had 13.5 sacks and probably way more pressures than paye has had in year 4.  Paye has one more year to show he can be the pass rusher we need.     and only reason why Trey was being compared to Paye is because someone else brought him.  There is honestly no comparison when it comes to their year 4s
    • 5 best remaining WR’s according to PFF   WR ADONAI MITCHELL, TEXAS. Mitchell's fluidity and size make him a tough matchup for anyone, especially in the red zone. ...  WR TROY FRANKLIN, OREGON. ...  WR LADD MCCONKEY, GEORGIA. ...  WR KEON COLEMAN, FLORIDA STATE. ...  WR ROMAN WILSON, MICHIGAN.
