The god awful Levis will look like the 2nd coming of Montana against this dead last ranked defense!!!!!

Do u think Shane is actually keeping Gus around because it makes Ballard look really bad? A power play? That's the only reason I can think of as to why Shane retains Gus. It's actually poor coaching for Shane not to fire Gus based on his history.

You do understand that shane works for Ballard right?  Ballard likes gus. As does irsay. Shane has zero to do with gus being here.

I think Ballard talked Shane into accepting Gus again based on the defense breaking the Colt sack record last season and by Gus being handicapped with all the injuries to the young secondary. Plus it also helped that Shane already had a prior working relationship with Gus from their Charger days.

As a first time hc going into yr 2 I doubt that Shane had much pushback anyway because unfortunately Ballard is calling the shots and has Irsay's blessing.

I agree and keeping Gus maybe a little revenge on Shane's part. U told me to keep him and now I am going to show Irsay that u suck as a GM, lol.

I hope u r right because then it only reinforces my long held belief that Ballard is a horrible GM. Oh, and I have Ballard's own record to support my argument.

I was always surprised by the Wink Martindale interview. I never felt he was a serious candidate for the HC position.  If u r correct in that  Ballard wanted Gus retained. I wonder if Wink was a Steichen request. Wink does not run anything like what the Colts currently do on D. Just found it was an out of left field play. Maybe Steichen knew this day would come? Maybe that was the 1st time Steichen was trumped by Ballard in retaining Gus? Steichen could be keeping Gus in their  to show Ballard's continued poor decisions. Just a little conspiracy thinking on my end, lol.

I’m starting to tilt that way.  I gave him the benefit of the doubt with the raw deal he had at QB.

There are no great GMs who don’t have a franchise QB.   But when he got one last year and still refused to bring in experienced talent this year, I was totally frustrated.  He knew JuJu’s injury history.  He knew the position was weak even with him.

I will say Cross is playing well but we’re ultra thin there too.

Not to defend Gus, but how can he play an aggressive D with those ingredients?

The talent on this D is quite bad.

Bring in a 3-4 D . Move Latu and Paye to LB. Cross looks like a keeper but the rest need to be shown the door. The corners sucks as does Blackmon. Lbs are light and cannot cover.

If they would have brought in one cover corner and/or a good FS, they could play an aggressive D.  Not that Gus would have even then.

That’s what’s so frustrating.  Everyone could see it.  I don’t think there was one media person or fan who could understand it.  He had the cap, there were plenty of guys.  They weren’t going to break the bank.

I just wonder when Irsay will say ENOUGH mediocrity.

We tried 3-4 during the Luck era. It didn’t work either.

And moving Latu to LB?

… really?

Yes he does. If you don’t think Shane can’t walk into Ballards office and say a change needs to be made your fooling yourself. Keeping Bradley Shane’s first year was the right decision. He should have been gone after last season. Shane is the HC. You know he can’t be happy with this defense.

If Shane cannot call the shots his coaching staff. Then  Ballard is more of an ego maniac then I ever thought he was.

Hopefully they get Paye and Moore back.  That might help some but they have only been out the last two games and the defense has struggled far more than those two games this year.

The defense didn’t struggle this bad though. We were able to keep points down. The issue today was those ridiculous big plays where they let jags have short scoring drives.

    • I am not going to judge him too early yet.  He shows signs.  For example his ability to get open.  That is important.  We 'think' he has good hands as he showed he did in college.   Right now he seems to be playing scared when it comes to getting hit, but if he can overcome that he should be a really good WR in time.    Remember how so many here thought Pierce was horrible but he has shown he can play.
    • Agree with most of that and as I said in an earlier post, this lack of accountability from Ballard, where he can say things like, "I do what I do and if I get fired so be it"?  It is wearing off on AR.  In other words Ballard is a very bad influence on AR.    For AR to say, after getting injured for the 100th time in 2 years....all on runs mind you.....not QB sacks.  All runs.  Where he can say "I do what I do (not sliding) and if the fans don't like it than whatever"?    I find that as inexcusable as Ballard saying if he gets fired for his beliefs that so be it.   News flash.  If what you are doing isn't working, in Ballard's case his team building approach and in  AR's case his lack of protecting himself approach, it might be time to try something different.  But neither one seems as if they are in any hurry to do that.    They seem to be feeding off each other in weakness.  Ballard needs to GO.  Before he wrecks AR for good.
    • Did we fire Bradley yet ? Asking for a friend of a friend of myself.
    • That is one thing that drives me crazy.  I realize there are salary cap implications, but when I see guys like D Adams or a Diggs being traded for a 4th rounder or something similar?  I just cringe that the Colts never get in on those trades.   Like any 5th rounder in the world will ever be a player as good as those guys.  To me, GMs like Ballard way way WAY overestimate the value of any pick beyond the second round.   Many of those guys will barely make the team, and if they do, they are very rarely are difference makers.   It has become that guys like Ballard think of these draft picks like gold nuggets. The truth are most are just Fools Gold.
    • We need to practice sideline tackling. I can do better at pushing a runner out-of-bounds from 1 foot away.
