He's open, now he just needs to get the ball in his hands.

He needs to catch the ball too. Twice this season he should’ve laid out for a pass, but pulled up. This is not an NFL receiver until he learns this and can do it week in and week out.

2 drops that would have resulted in 1st downs.

I believe he is going to be a good receiver but replacing Pierce as stated by some is nonsense.

I'm glad Flacco got game time with him last Sunday. It showed that it wasn't Richardson being the issue and AD needs to continue putting the work in. We have alot of good things to look forward to on offense.

Just my perception after very limited observations - AD looks like he is hearing footsteps on some of his routes and pulling up somewhat. Hope I am wrong, but that is the impression I was left with.

It seems that way to me also. He seems to pull up every time a DB gets near him.

I was one of the people who thought he’d replace AP based off the possibility of him producing more.  Needless to say I was wrong.  From what I see it’s a little bit of him getting missed or him not making the extra effort to bring the ball down.

But either way there will be a time someone does get replaced because him being at the top of separation stats as a rookie is insane.  As said, he needs to put it together and that also includes blocking.  But when he does put it together, he’s going to be a dog.

I'm not worried about AD, ironically his problem is the same as ARs. He needs more reps with the QB to get timing down and how they like routes run, but he's also 4th in the depth chart behind Pittman, Downs, and Pierce so he isn't getting as many reps to build that rapport. As the season goes on I'm sure we will see improvement and more receptions, he's getting the separation which is huge. Remember he's still just a rookie going into his 5th game.

Once he gets used to the speed of the NFL, he will be fine.

I was being a little sarcastic with my comment.  There were a few who said he would the 3rd WR and take APs spot right away.  AP isn't going anywhere anytime soon IMO.

Idk anything, but I looked at how much he was used as an outside receiver for most of his college career. Now sometimes he's used in the slot (or routes inside/slants/etc) he isn't used to the contact that he's going get??

He looks scared to get hit, and that's a problem.

He pulled up from a catch he saw he was going to get hit this past week.  Even though there was a penalty called, it's still the most concerning thing to me.  He's got all the talent, but this is the NFL man.  If you aren't sacrificing your body at least a little bit, you're playing scared and that's a career killer mentality in this game.  Then you throw in the drops and I don't know if you make it through your rookie contract.  I liked the pick initially, but it's not looking so great now.  2nd round picks should see the field more than 20% of snaps which he's under than mark the past 2 weeks.

It just amazes me how much people overreact in this forum. He literally is a ROOKIE , he hasn’t had much reps with AR unlike Pittman , Downs and Alec. It’s going to take time for them to get on the same page, for AR to understand ADs speed and catch radius, for AD to understand how AR prefers depths on routes, touch on passes where he expects him to be on breaks and spacing,  how fast he can expect the ball to get to him. It’s not going to be instant overnight success, let them both get adjusted.

I'm really impressed by everything about this rep. Not just AD's route, but how it matches up with Downs, the timing, etc. I'm not sure what happened on this play, but if they keep running stuff like that, it's going to be good for the passing game and all of the receivers.

AD does a lot of subtle stuff that shows savvy with route running. I think some of his routes in preseason were kind of freelanced, which isn't going to work, but he's been more disciplined lately. And I agree that he needs to be tougher when the ball is in the air, but I'm not worried about that just yet. If he gets on the same page with Richardson, he's going to make some big plays.

Just get the man a few easy catches to get in the flow of the game and he will settle down.

Yeah they need to get him involved in the short passing game, instead of every thing being a deep passing game concept.

I think his talent is undeniable. What I worry about is - is he freelancing too much... not just in pre-season? There are just WAY too many situations where it looks like him and the QB are not on the same page. Until last week it was all with AR, but this week there were a few reps where it looked like even him and Flacco were off and not in sync. At some point I feel like I have to give the QBs the benefit of the doubt, especially when it's almost exclusively happening with one receiver.

I feel like he needs to be coached hard and the importance of making his breaks at the right depth and right angle needs to be emphasized for him... because if he figures some of those things out I really do think he has special WR talent.

I think he's letting up on some of these plays, not running full speed, short-arming, etc. And I think he's definitely been overthrown a few times.

I haven't really studied his route running. I know I saw some freelancing in preseason, and when I have watched him so far this year, he seems more disciplined. Reggie Wayne alluded to some of the coaching and refinement he needs during training camp. He also got moved to slot when Downs went down, so he's been splitting duties, which probably isn't ideal.

Our starters need to play more in preseason. I definitely value the joint practices, but I think maybe they should have those earlier in camp, and still get their reps in the preseason games.

kit he laid out for the ball the hit would have been minimal. DB went high on AD

There is a big difference between criticizing a rookie on running his routes and criticizing him for avoiding contact in a contact sport. Big, big difference. Its like an  swimmer who glides thru the water  like a torpedo   but cannot deal with putting their face in the water numerous times during a race.

So disappointed in AD.  I’m trying not to be hard on him because he’s a rookie, but him being scared of contact is insane.  I thought this dude was going to be a sleeper for OROY.  Guess not.

Guilty also. I said in one of the training camp threads that he was going to be the steal of the draft.

I don't know what's going through his head, but Reggie needs to figure something out to help get AD over this.
