The picture was taken from an article published in March 2022.  I wonder what he looks like now.  The team is listing him as 293 on their website.

Although I do not regret the signing... Still, I have very low expectations for Veldheer this season

Looking at the size of him and considering the "suspension" issue , I think I may have the answer to this. Assuming being on our PS counts against the 6 game suspension , could it be that this is a 2024 depth piece ? If this counts as "serving" his suspension , it gets it out of the way for 2024 . Also gives him the offseason to build himself back up.

I don't think so.  Smith played all but one snap, Freeland played the other one.  He's probably just getting into football shape.

 

Hopefully he's a good insurance policy.

He was called up and active for the Atlanta game but did not play.

I think they are hoping he shows enough so he can be brought back next year as an experienced backup swing tackle.  He’s only 36.

Insurance because Smith was hurt and incase Freeland got hurt.
