General Injury Updates Thread

Recommended Posts

Guys, just a sticky  thread for injury updates. So many questions in different threads.

Here's the latest on most of the guys. I couldn't find anything on a few, so feel free to add. I added PUP and IR sections as well.

I'll add some tweets and recent articles shortly relevant to some of the guys.

Thanks @NFLfan

  • Wentz QB
    • Condition - Healing from foot surgery (tiny bone removal)
    • Latest -  Practiced today. Full workload but not in pads. 7on7, etc.. Said rest was built into his routine for healing. Riech said early on, pain tolerance would be a strong contributing factor to his full return. Had some nice throws, including some bombs that were on point. Threw an INT too, but also had 3 consecutive RZ TDs on 3 consecutive snaps.
    • Bottom Line - Still hopes for week 1 start
  • Nelson G
    • Condition - Healing from similar injury to Wentz
    • Latest - Back at practice in full pads from a tweet. Was limping off... went to tent, and returned fine. Maybe a shot or spray of that good stuff lol.

  • Kelly C
    • Condition - hyperextended elbow
    • Latest - Back at practice and doing team drills with "bionic" brace lol.

No formal Injury Report for the Lion's game, but here's what ESPN lists

Both teams have went on record saying they don't plan to play starters much if at all.

Not sure exactly what happened. It said non-Covid illness. And haven't seen any update at all.

A lot of the local articles (Fox59 for one) talk about him being a guy to watch tonight, so perhaps he's back and ready to play.

Just a hunch that his and campbell missing practice was due to getting either the first or second covid shot. There was that tweet that said a few more players decided to get it after it was approved.

I do know Strachan had a IG story of him in the facility on a golf cart driving around without a mask on the day he missed. So if that’s the case he still should of had a mask on. So it’s always possible it was just a illness.

Agreed

I was going off the vaccine time table

I would think that would be covid related though.

Not that I want to see him, or any player, injured.  But this could work out both for him and the Colts.  I don't think he would have been picked up if released, but if we put him on IR we wrap him up without using a roster spot.

Same here. It may open up a spot to keep a 7th receiver which I wouldn't be opposed to.

All things considered I do hope the young man's ok going forward.

Yup. IMO, I don't think we needed kept 3 QBs on the roster the entire year anyway. Half the teams keep 2, half keep 3. Since it's only 4ish weeks, will be interesting to see how he does. I believe he would have made it our PS regardless of injury if we didn't want to carry him.

Overall, low expectations of a later round pick anyway, and he'll need time regardless. I think this may take a little pressure off both sides. Of course he'll have the pressure of recovery and getting better, but he's a strong kid and will be fine.

Just glad it wasn't super serious. And really hope Wentz is back and healthy for the duration.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/colts/2021/08/29/colts-ty-hilton-injury-likely-miss-multiple-games/5642547001/

USA Today

INDIANAPOLIS — Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton has suffered an injury that will likely cause him to miss multiple games, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed to IndyStar on Sunday.

ESPN reported that Hilton’s injury is to his upper back or neck.

Hilton took a hit while catching a deep ball in practice Wednesday and was briefly attended to by trainers, but the veteran wide receiver got up on his own and returned to practice, so it’s unclear if the injury is related to that collision.

    • Could he do it?  Sure, but it is much tougher for him than most owners in the NFL.  The Colts just layed out $200 million this free agency.  I imagine over half in guaranteed money.  That’s a lot for Jim.
    • With all that said...
    • Spending doesn't mean you will win. You still need to spend smart and you still need to draft well and overall make good decisions.    Not spending limits you in your roster construction. I don't know why it's so hard for people to understand. The best teams in the league use ALL available avenues for improving their team. They do not limit themselves artificially with what's possible to achieve. They also concentrate resources into windows of contention. This means at any given time, if you are not spending you are competing against teams that are pouring resources into trying to win it RIGHT NOW. You will just always be at disadvantage because while 1 specific team will need to reload and take their lumps for spending too much in short period of time once in a while, the league as a whole will always have at least a few teams that are in that high spending mode chasing a window for contention.    Now... is it possible you strike gold and beat those teams while relying almost exclusively on the draft? It's possible. If you string together a few insane draft classes. But it's not very likely...
    • This gets peddled like it means spending in FA doesn’t work. The Rams won a Super Bowl by spending. The Colts don’t spend and haven’t won bupkis since Ballard got here.    I’m not saying the Colts should just spend mindlessly and I don’t think that’s what anyone wants. But, Ballard’s gotta cover his draft misses by spending in FA otherwise we’ll never win with him at the helm.
    • Agreed. Tom always brings thoughtful perspective to the forum and I enjoy reading his posts.
