Ravens vs Steelers

Recommended Posts

Just watched the end of the Ravens game...even with several key players missing, the Ravens made it interesting against the Steelers. This game helps us for two reasons:

1. It prevents the Ravens from leaping us for the seventh spot

2. If shows that Pittsburgh can be beaten, especially if you have a tough D

I’m feeling a lot better about our chances after that one

The Steelers do not look like s 11-0 team. They have to be the quietest 11-0 team ever.

They have yet to face many elite opponents. They beat the Browns once and Ravens twice, both Ravens games being very close games. They also beat the Titans in a close game, but the Titans are certainly not invincible. They haven’t played anybody like KC, Buffalo, New Orleans, Green Bay, Seattle, etc.

I don’t think they’re a bad team by any stretch, but I don’t think they’re as good as their record, either

I love how I said the same thing two weeks ago and I got crucified

Ravens losing actually helps. It keeps us in the last playoff spot.

Steelers match up badly vs the Chiefs looking at strength vs strength, IMO. It could be 2004 AFCCG deja vu for Big Ben when he lost the 2004 AFCCG at home vs Brady, this time could be vs Mahomes. Long way to go though. Sammy Watkins coming back for Mahomes just before playoff time always gives that offense a huge boost, not that they need it much.

After Covid, I have to wait and see how Lamar comes out of it passing the ball. If his passing improves, the Ravens with a healthy D always have a puncher's chance on the road.

Came home from tennis and caught the last quarter and a half. The Ravens did not look good, their D seemed uninspired.  I think I heard they were missing some players.

I think we definitely have a shot at holding our wild card spot.

The ravens I believe had 3 players out injured. Plus like 12 or 13 still on the covid list out. Yeah they were short handed. I thought Harbaugh coached a heck of s game. To me it was the Steelers who played uninspired. Steelers also had 3 players out on the covid list.

I said in the other thread the Steelers offense looks a lot like the colts. A old QB with limited mobility if you pressure him it throws off the quick timing offense. Like the colts they don’t throw downfield much they just mix in some chunk plays and run game.  Their defense is probably a little better then the colts and been Moore consistent. The int Ben threw today looked like something rivers would of done.

They may hold him out til first playoff game

There won’t be a playoff game if he missed to much time. Reich said today he isn’t putting a timetable on it. It’s up to AC when he practiced or if he think he can play. Leaving it up to him.

I agree that they are not as good as their record suggests.

I think their biggest strength is that they do not have any glaring weaknesses.   Sure their offense isn't top 5 in the league, but it's not bottom 5 either.

Wow they were short handed. At least they didn't have practice squad receiver at qb. Lol

    • You raise good points.   I think the Colts had everything to win a SB this year. They believed that, and from everything we've seen in the playoffs, I agree with them. Now, even if they won a SB this year, I dont think it's a stretch to say that it would have been a team that won while not being the best version of the offense that it could be (I think this version of the offense is pretty condensed to match the QB's ability). NEXT YEAR, the big unknown with Rivers is that he a QB who is a year older, with some injury issues. It's a risk. I'm sure the team has run its scenario analysis and will come up with the best solution.   If the goal next season is a SB at all costs i.e. all chips in the pot, then I don't think it gets better than Rivers. I like Stafford and I drool at the prospect of him with Frank Reich but I think the deal with him is high ceiling but lower floor than Rivers. With Rivers, I think his ceiling is probably what we saw this season, maybe a pinch higher, but as long as he is healthy, i think this is also close to his floor.  A rookie QB could come in and have a higher ceiling than Rivers, but once again, the floor would be in the basement I imagine because you just can never tell. Eason? Same as a rookie I think.   The goal from day 1 should always be finding a future QB. Ballard has always said that. At least since Luck walked. It's always forefront in their mind, he has done nothing to make me think otherwise.
    • Not trying to pi$$ on him just pointing out what the facts showed. And that’s that against the better teams when he had to throw it more than we ran it we were a losing team.  So that tells me that when he HAD to do it (or he felt he HAD to) because the defense stacked the box he couldn’t do it.  So my point is that he & we (the Colts) need to recognize his limitations if he’s to be brought back.   He has the mind to be the perfect game manager. He can’t be the superstar QB anymore against the better teams.  If he takes the approach Peyton took in his final run with the Broncos (Rivers isn’t that cooked but he may as well have been against the better teams) then we can beat the better teams and make a deeper playoff run.  We actually could’ve done it this year if Rivers became more of a full time game manager against the better teams.     Following the game manger blueprint we win the Jags, Steelers, & Ravens games & we’re 13-3 or 14-2 and the #2 seed.  And judging from what I’ve seen this year, that blueprint would be working well in these playoffs. If they do bring Rivers back and expect him to carry the team vs better competition then he needs a Sure Fire #1 receiver.  It’ll give Rivers a security blanket and it’ll open up others off of him.  Should we trade for OBJ if we bring back Rivers?  If we thought Pittman & Campbell looked good on those crossers, imagine ODB?  Those could be house calls with OBJ.
    • A little more to the job than that even if he doesn't call plays
    • Burrow had some of the best pocket movement and awareness I've seen since Luck. Truly special. (thanks to athleticism) He was also making insane plays out of structure. Something that can't exactly be said about Jones...
