Interesting off season coming! With the number of vetrans who are free agents, many may decide they do not want to be part of the rebuild.

Manning - refuses to renegotiate because Caldwell was directly involved in developing him into an MVP winner. - gets released and signs free agent contract with Jets.

Saturday - won't come back without Manning - retires

Wayne - follows Manning to Jets.

Mathis - goes free agent and signs with Houston

Housecleaning can be particularly painful if you have to part with personal treasures.

The argument breaks down at point A.

Question to Grigson: What are you looking for in a head coach?

A: "Leadership."

Interpret that however you will...

He is not looking for a puppet he is not a puppetmaster. He is looking for a real coach that will lead this team. He won't be pulling the coaches puppet strings. As The Polians did and puppet Caldwell

Why would Peyton go the Jets?

Well this was actually a pretty telling press conference to me so far...

A.) The team is looking to become more aggressive on defense and put more focus into it. I love the fact they are looking into Spags!

B.) We are taking Andrew Luck. The constant reference to 98 just gives me that impression that Irsay is going for the hat trick again (GM, Coach, New Longterm QB).

C.) I really think Irsay is prepared to let Manning go if he's not healthy. Im not saying he's made up his mind to let him go for sure. But it just sounds like he's convinced himself that they may have to move on in a new direction if he's not 100% come march. Just me speculating though.

I have a sinking feeling that Manning is going to be cut. It seems that Grigson has been handed the reins and he wants change. I hope I'm wrong, I would really like to see Manning play out his contract before handing the team over to Luck.

Grigson said that was a decision that would be between Jim and Peyton. Not him.

That's what he said, but if I am an incoming GM, I am going to ask for the power to make personnel decisions. I can't imagine a GM not asking for that power. That is essentially what a GM does.

Lol so you are trying to infer that because thats what YOU would do, thats what HE should do, even though HE said that he wasn't going to do that. Your point has no merit.

When it comes to the decison on Manning, I think that Irsay will have the final say, however, not without discussion with Grigson. Grigson cannot be in charge of all other personell matters with the exception of Manning. The decision behind keeping manning will have an effect on any other decision that Grigson can make. As both Grigson and Irsay discussed, they are looking for a more balanced team. If Grigson is to make a decision on wether to keep Mathis or not, he would need to know if there is cap room. We all know how Manning's contract effects the cap situation.

My point is that although he may not make the final decision, he will know ahead of time what the decision will be.

Really? A GM makes personnel decisions. That's their job. Why would he give up one of the most essential parts of his job? He would be castrating himself metaphorically. If Irsay makes the personnel decisions, he is the de facto GM. What GM wants to work under those conditions. Grigson doesn't seem to be that type of GM.

Besides that, when anyone gives his or her opinion, it is just that, an opinion. When you try to imagine what someone might do, it comes from what you have experienced (see Jean Piaget's Theory of Cognitive Development). There is no other way to think. We base our thoughts on previous learning. My opinions are no less valid than yours, just because I am brave enough to admit that my opinions are based on my own knowledge and experiences.

I can't argue with that as I think you are correct in your assumption. I was just quoting what he said.

Really liked the quote on leadership... think that is smart. Your assts can be creative, but HC is leader to give vision and direction

Leadership is one quality that Caldwell seemed to lack, Dungy had it, differently than most do, but he was a leader when you listened to how much his players went all out for him and wanted to succeed. That has not been here the last few years.

I got the sense that this was an extremely tough decision for Irsay, and he was extremely reluctant to see Caldwell leave the organization. When answering reporters' questions, Grigson seemed to be still making his case to Irsay.

It might have come down to if Irsay wants to keep Manning then we'd need more reliance on D, which involves a more defense minded coach.
