you think they will try to short change wayne and mathis because of bad year?

They will take into account several things and look at both players' production. The bad year for the team will mean nothing but how those guys played within that year and what they project going forward as neither will get any better will be the factors on if they get a contract offer and if they do, how much it is.

No need to rush Peyton. Let the man have till next year to get right and prepare the way he is accustomed to in the offseason. Even if he came back this season, there are no guarantees that even he could save us from 0-16. He could be rusty, hampered and ineffective due to lack of offseason routine and rushing to get back on the field before being 100%. It is unlikely that Peyton will be truly 100% this season even if he and the Colts said otherwise, I'd be hesitant to believe them. He's human not some kind of machine.

At this point no need to get him back for our standing, and since we are heading into the draft with the #1 pick for Luck if things don't change, Manning had better not be back since he could easily beat the Texans at home when they are starting to rest players for playoff, and beat the Jags who has nothing to play for.

Ironically the team may want to see if Manning has recovered well and let him play. Manning may eventually kick the guy to potentially take his job out of here.

Other teams are competing for the draft pick as well, and Jets fans are talking about losing to the Dolphins intentionally when things are all decided, s.t. they will not need to play Luck twice a year in the next decade.

What if Peyton Manning is cleared to play and he actually gets into a few games at the end of the season and he plays horribly? This will create far more questions than answers.

Is it because of his arm strength or lack there of?

Does this give us a decent evaluation of him?

Is it fair to evaluate him right after coming back from surgery?

Does this have DRAFT implications?

Will he be able to play better in the NEAR future? How long can we wait before finding out? etc...

We can't assume that because he comes back, all will be fine. He missed the preseason last year and took a while to play at his usual high level. He will have missed nearly a year of football.

Just a hypothetical scenario to think about.

It would be funny if Manning came back the last game of the week, and...

1.) Magically puts up 40 pts

2.) The defense magically gets better.

3.) Adam makes all his kicks

4.) Caldwell leaves the field with a smile...

Well, 3 out of 4 aint bad...

Dont kid yourself..

0-16 is the worst case scenario...

That stick wont wash off

What's worse than a horrible season? A horrible season with nothing to show for it and more of the same ol same ol next season. No thanks. 0-16 puts us in better position next year and I'm all for it at this point. Who cares about 3-4 meaningless wins? Jim needs to go not stay because Peyton came in and rescued a few wins for him. Knowing our FO they would keep him on.

And we go 1-15, lose Luck, Peyton plays 'just OK' next year, we miss the playoffs, then Peyon retires......

... and we spend a decade at the bottom of the NFL...

Yes - very funny!

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. No team is that scared to play Andrew Luck. Seriously, some of you all are hyping this kid up like he is the second coming of Christ. There's no such thing as a sure thing, and if no team has ever done this before to keep from playing an untested rookie, it won't happen with Luck. Geez.

Manning said he's evaluated by the doctors every 4 weeks.

That was 4 weeks ago.....right?

..WE/He should have an update this week...

As far as I am concerned, this just is not looking good from any angle. Dakich said today on the radio his "second" surgery this year was in 2 separate locations... different from the prior surgery.

I will be honest, I think 18 is done. I think he "could" play again ... BUT, 3 neck surgeries in what? a year and a half? I think unless doctors give him a guarantee that it can get no worse he will retire. And spine injuries only do get worse over time.

Hope I'm wrong.

WOW - I hadn't heard this. Thanks for the post.

I posted a month or more ago, that if I'm Archie, Olivia or Ashley, I'm telling Peyton -- retire now, don't spend your life in a wheelchair. You just KNOW that someone would be gunning for Peyton if he comes back. And with the Colts O-Line, it would be sooner than later.

Peyton - you've had a GREAT run carrying an AWFUL FO and team on your back -- move on! (I have a son about his age, so not just blowing smoke)

Indeed - if Luck were stupid enough to let the Colts take him, he'd have a .500 team as long as Polian kept his nose up Irsay's stoned butt. :) (Which would mean as long as Polian wanted it to be there; which would mean a number of years)
