HarassedOffTheSite
Per PFT & Bob Krapitz...When meeting with reporters on Wednesday, Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning had nothing to say about what Colts owner Jim Irsay had to say about Peyton. After his media session, Manning talked privately with Bob Kravitz of the Indianapolis Star. The question was simple and direct: “Do you bear any ill will or resentment toward the Colts?”Per Kravitz, Manning paused, looked down at the floor, and then shook his head.“To answer a question like that doesn’t serve me well,” Manning said. “I feel like the question is based on the [irsay] comments, so it’s just easier not to answer anything along those lines.”As Kravitz points out, any response other than “no” means that the truth may be “yes.” And Manning’s reference to the Irsay comments in answering the question from Kravitz provides a glimpse into how Manning interpreted the remarks. So it’s not just a media creation, even though some in the media have rushed to Irsay’s defense, describing the interpretation of Irsay’s remarks as a shot at Peyton as foolish or asinine. Under that standard, Peyton Manning apparently is being foolish and asinine, too. When the clock strikes zero on Sunday night, there likely will be only one person viewed and foolish and asinine. And that person will seem even more foolish and asinine if Manning and the Broncos win a Super Bowl or two over the next few years.
Danfish98
Brain, the same things that drive me nuts about you when I don't agree with you, make me very happy when you're right. You have a way with words when ridiculous topics like this one come up that is just awesome. I'm really looking forward to Monday morning when hopefully this story, and the poor horse that is unrecognizable at this point, are put to rest for good. OffensivelyPC
lol @ Krapitz. This whole situation is stupid and blown way out of proportion, if you ask me. But regardless of what Manning/Irsay feels, none of the Colts fans feel that Manning wasn't appreciated here or that we place all blame on Manning's shoulders. We don't. And if Irsay's comments are taken how I think they mean, Irsay blamed Polian, and to a lesser extent, Dungy, for not getting more than one ring. And what Colt fan doesn't? Manning may have struggled in teh playoffs, but as Irsay correctly poitns out, it was because we relied solely on the passing game. And when things got tough, defense and special teams rarely bailed Manning out. Can't win multiple superbowls like that. I love Manning and everything he did for this great city. And despite Irsay's antics, he's not stupid. He knows what Manning did and I honestly believe that he meant no ill will towards Manning when he made any of those remarks. FanFromtheWasteland
I like our owner and also think this has been blown out of proportion. Irsay just is not a good public speaker and really should stop doing interviews. Twitter is fine. There was a reason why Polian did all the talking when he was here and we are now seeing why. The Peytonator
I really don't get it. I love Peyton, but I absolutely do not see how the comments were a shot at him. If he feels that way I don't know...maybe he's just using it as some sort of motivation. To me it was a compliment to Manning, and a shot at Polian and the previous system. He was saying nothing more than, 'When you have the GOAT at QB, you should win more than 1 SB....other guys in the organization let us down.' LockeDown
Irsay should have been quiet and Peyton should have been quiet and we shouldn't have brought in the old teammates. A standing ovation would have been good enough at this point and save the parade for when Peyton retires. Of course, this is hindsight. Too late now. JoKeR
Another perspective is that's coming is that Irsay's comments were nothing more than mind games. As I see it, the media just can't come to terms that they blew Irsay's comments out of proportion and it's really not a story. All the guy was saying is the Colts should've won more rings but the team was too centered around the offense.
The Old Crow
All I will say is many people interpret Manning's latest remarks differently. The lack of answers says it all. As I've continued to say, and apparently been grilled for, is that it would have been best if all parties would have had a week of silence on all of this stuff. As it is, there is back peddling , uncomfortable interviews , and the like. We ,the fans , or forum members didn't fan these media flames, the interested parties did. I am not sure how Manning could not have been hurt by Irsay's remarks no matter the intent. But as another poster had said to me, Manning probably has a few gripes with Irsay that go back to 2011. Perhaps this just adds to the list. I think everyone will be happy when the game is over. Maybe too much emotion here, understandably.
The Old Crow
The media would not have made any assumptions if you keep quiet. If you don't give them anything to go with, they have nothing. How many people are at, so called, fault, for misinterpreting the comments, Fox, Dungy, Polian ? Two of the three guys are Colt guys.
The Old Crow
Well said.Thanks. We are in the minority on this was as the damage control squads are out in full force. However, we didn't create the damage, we are left to comment on it .
chrisfarley
Steve Young said it best, "Irsay's comments hit very hard and very deep and will never be forgotten by Manning, as a fellow Quarterback, trust me on that. Manning will compartmentalize those comments and use them when needed, like a silent assassin."
Fx Stryker
Does Peyton probably still feel hurt. I would say so. We would all know he would never answer an interview question if his answer will create controversy. And it is best to stay silent.I don't know how he feels, but I do know how I would feel myself. He doesn't like the questions we do know that. There have been occasions he get visibly annoyed by them during interviews. This week just needs to end, and never happen again. The Fish
I could be all wet, but I don't actually think any of this will be "extra motivation". Peyton and Jim knew before all of this, where they stood.
