Priority Shift In Draft

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking more receivers are going to go in the first than initially thought. Jacksonville, Dallas and a couple others did not do well in free agency and now need WR help. May lead to a 1st round safety or corner falling out of the first round.

With three QB's out of the 1st round and the wealth of WR talent to assist these young QB's from both this year and last year, I see the TE's all dropping to the 2nd round at best, so certainly Coby Fleener should be available 33rd overall.

If we are LUCKy a quality cornerback or a good wide receiver/tight end(Fleener) will fall to our laps at 34, but since you can easily find good wide receiver talent in later rounds I say grigson should get the best cornerback available to pair up with Powers, I say thats one of the biggest needs

There could be a run because there are so many. This is an outstanding draft for receivers. Since the NFL has trended toward a passing league the cost of keeping top level receivers has gone up..

No god dang hway Dre falls to the second. Just not happening

I agree. I'm thinking Jenkins might slip. If neither Jenkins or Dre are there at 34, I doubt CB will be the pick. There's no other corner worthy of 34 for the colts. Barron might slip but no likely because he is the #1 safety. Maybe Glenn or Konz too. Either would be a huge infusion of talent to the Oline

Not sure if CB Stephon Gilmore is a reach at pick 34. I've seen various draft sites rank him anywhere from mid-20s to mid-40s. If no solid 1st rounder slides to the Colts in the 2nd round, maybe the team can trade down 6-to-12 spots and pick Gilmore or some other position of need at better value.

I think so too. If not Jenkins, Gilmore will. I personally do not think Gilmore will be a reach at No.34. Besides, Marlin Jackson was rated round 2 material and we got him in round 1; Kelvin Hayden was rated round 4-5 material and we got him in round 2. Yes, they are not elite guys by any means but when healthy, they played physical and were highly productive, IMO, making plays.

Last year, not even a handful thought Castanzo would be there at No.22, and look what happened. Stranger things have happened in the draft.

There are mistakes these young guys make and then there's Jenkins. His is a lifestyle like PacMan....he says he has matured but they all say that before the draft. The NFL lifestyle will put him in even worse situations. I would not take a chance on him.

Castonzo has yet to live up to to that 23rd pick in my opinion, he struggled mightily in pass protection at times looked to shy away from contact and footwork wasnt real consistent, thats what we should be looking for consistency not, oooooooo this guy made a great play.....well has he consistently made good plays?, Marlin Jackson and Hayden did perform better then the crap effort we got last year but kinda hard not to dont ya think? neither would be considered anything close to a shutdown corner and thats what the colts have been lacking besides a good run stopper. Id like us to get a physical corner that can jam a wide receiver at the line and not consistently give up slant route after slant route and then after giving up the route miss the tackle, with that said hopefully that was do to poor schemes time will tell, one thing I never understood, why did I constantly see our players try to go after an apposing players feet when trying to make the tackle. is it really logical your going to catch a Darren Sproles by going for his quick feet? My thought process has always been, smaller players you wrap up the body the bigger the player the slower their feet will be, so why not go for the feet with them instead trying to make a shoulder or body tackle to a guy like Peyton Hillis when everyone new our players were undersized linebackers and linemen ? in my opinion the way our players were taught to tackle have been fundamentally flawed
