I'm not going to be posting any grades save maybe just a few on stand-out players. 

 

I'll try to rank grades as follows:

• Elite 90+
• Great 80-89
• Good 70-79
• Above Average 65-69
• Average 56-64
• Below Average 50-55
• Bad <50

For reference the baseline grade is 60.0 - the average. To make it easier for me I've made some PFF-grade intervals for each of the above categories (see above). Fewer grades under average because once you get into that area under "Below average" there's not much point in grading it - it's just not good enough.

Comments on grades for Offense, Defense and ST, week 16

 

Seeing as the cat's out of the bag on week 1-3 grades (my bad), I'll keep them here and make comments on the latest game.

 

Offense -  (week3/week2/week 1)

(55.2/74.7/53.1) - Overall Offense 

Week 16 - Average - 2nd worst game of the season for the offense as a whole.

 

(49.3/80.6/49.2) - Passing

Week 16 - Below Average - Back to meh.

 

(65.3/70.9/68.3) - Pass blocking

Week 16 - Above Average - One of only three of our team grades above 60.

 

(62.3/63.2/57.1) - Receiver routes

Week 16 - Average - Not a lot of help for Minshew here.

 

(61.4/67.4/38.8) - Run game

Week 16 - Average - 2nd of three team grades above 60.

 

(45.4/82.9/62.3) - Run blocking

Week 16 - Bad - No run game when Minshew can't pass them out of base defense.

 

Worst overall game of the season for our offense. Terrible when we are playing for a playoff spot.

Week 16 - Below Average - Defense came crashing back to earth after a steller performance against the Steelers. This was terrible.

Week 16 - Bad - Save a few games this has been a sore spot all season. We can talk about talent, but these are NFL players after all. At this point it points to coaching.

Week 16 - Above Average - 3rd of three team grades above 60.

Week 16 - Below Average - Our guys are getting exposed.

Minshew had his 3rd worst time to throw of the season. He missed Pittman. Raimann had a good performance and Nelson, Kelly and Fries were decent in Pass protection, but Freeland was a revolving door. Downs has had 5 pretty forgettable games in a row now. We need him to do more especially when we don't have Pittman. I think Pierce has played himself into a backup role at this point. Cox is too expensive for what we're getting and Ogletree kinds disappeared after a good start to the season. Granson and Mallory took over for the WRs. Save a few plays, the RBs ran up the gut - that's it...

The Dline were really bad at tackling this week and didn't make up for it in another area. This was Franklin at his worst - 4 missed tackles and terrible coverage. Harrison and Speed weren't good either. Cross and Jones were the only players in the secondary with a decent game.

Rainmann is our top graded O lineman followed by B Smith then,Kelly then way back...(10 points) is Q then Fries

 

Ogletree and Mallory nearly identical (.2 for Ogletree) with MAC and Granson much lower.

 

Ebukum our top D Lineman by a lot followed by Buckner, Dayo is 16 points lower then any of our regular rotation up front,

 

Speed grading out above Franklin by 1.6 points

 

Nick Cross our to DB by over 12 points then Kenny followed by Blackmon. Brents and Jones numbers almost identical (.8 to Brents) then Thomas and Baker coming in dead last.

The DL missed a lot of tackles they normally get, and the LBs were awful overall. Sounds about right.

I really hope CB doesn't ride the hype with Franklin. He's amassed a lot of tackles this year, but he's been a liability in coverage and has an egregious amount of key missed tackles. I like Franklin as a guy, but I'm not comfortable giving him a big contract like he'll want.

It’s too bad we didn’t sign an even average backup swing tackle to be available behind Raiman and Smith.  Instead we gambled on a rookie tackle who has no business being on the field right now.  Grading near bottom of the entire league after eight starts.  Veldheer needs to play if Smith can’t go this week.  I can’t imagine he would be worse.  Not making a change is inviting disaster.
