Cubs win 4-3 over the Royals! Giving their fans what they want. The Professor with a great outing! Taking advantage of the weak part of the schedule like they should. Things are evening out now.

Cubs improve to 64-59, 5 games above .500 which is the most they have been all season.

All the teams fighting for the final playoff wildcard spot have completed their games today. Standings heading into August 21st:

Cubs 64-59

Reds 64-61

Marlins 64-61

D Backs 64-61

*Cubs have a 1 game lead over the other 3 teams for that final spot (2 in the loss column). Go Cubs Go!

If the season ended today, the playoff seedings would be:

Braves #1

Dodgers #2

Brewers #3

Phillies #4

Giants #5

Cubs #6

The Wild Card Round would be the Brewers vs the Cubs = best of 3. Phillies vs Giants = best of 3. If the Brewers do win the division, I would love nothing more to eliminate them. That alone would make this season very good. Making the playoffs, then knocking them off. The great thing about baseball is, as long as you get in, anything can happen. Dodgers have had dominant seasons but then have lost in the NLDS or NLCS a lot.

There are so many games and teams to follow that it is hard to keep up lmao . I work nights so it is difficult for me to watch full games and we play damn near every day. Giants are another team I have been keeping an eye on, they are 65-59, just a half game ahead of us. We could end up 5th instead of 6th. I would rather end up 6th because I want Miwaukee's rear angry homer simpson GIF.

If we win the division somehow and finish the 3rd seed that would be gravy. To me making the playoffs is making the playoffs either way if you aren't a #1 or #2 seed. Those teams get the Bye's is why. Braves and Dodgers have the top 2 seeds sewn up.

Today the Reds start a 5,000 mile road trip against the Angels, Diamondbacks, and Giants. No breaks, no days off until the 31st.

Very rough schedule, and they return home to play your guys' Cubs to start the final month of regular season baseball. I think these next 2 full weeks will be the decider on if the Reds are going to be contenders or just overachievers.

The one thing I have noticed about all these teams is they are up and down. They can beat the best team in the league one night, then lose to the worst team in the league the next night. these teams are very unpredictable. To me the Brewers, Phillies, Giants, Cubs, Reds, D Backs, and Marlins are all even. That is major parity. It is whatever team gets the breaks down the stretch and who is the healthiest that will make the playoffs. 3 of those teams won't make it, I just hope 1 of them isn't the Cubs. Only the Braves and Dodgers are above and beyond in the NL.

*I am still not even counting out the Padres, not with the talent they have.

Hi all, just checking in.  I knew all the Cubs fans would be active on this thread, and good for you!  As a Cardinals fan, my season is over, of course and this will be an interesting off season in St. Louis.

I'm still following baseball and excited about the Orioles success after several down years.  Rays are still tough, although they have a lot of pitchers injured.  Rangers trying to buy a pennant and it's working so far.

Bottom line, I just want someone to knock the Astros and Dodgers out!!!

The wild thing about this season is, any team that gets in could win the WS. Braves should be the favorite, but they can even be beat in a 5 or 7 game series if things don't go their way. Dodgers choke pretty much every year. Astros have been inconsistent this season, they are beatable. When it comes to the Orioles and Rays, they have put up some clunkers lately. As long as the Brewers, Dodgers, or Astros don't win it all, I would be ok with anyone else. Yankees and Cards, you can put a fork in them here in 2023.

Regarding the Cubs, I never seen this coming. We have totally rebuilt this team in 2 years, only Hendricks is left off of our 2016 WS Championship team and Ross managing.

Before the season started

ESPN - had the Cubs 75-87, finishing 4th in the Central

Sporting News - had the Cubs 76-86, finishing 4th in the Central

MLB .com/network - had the Cubs 76-86, finishing 4th in the Central

*I had the Cubs at 81-81 finishing 3rd in the Central and no playoffs. I predicted that and even said a lot would have to go right lmao .

Cubs are currently 65-59 and own the 5th playoff WC spot in the NL. The Phillies made the WS last season as a WC and that Philly team isn't any better than this years Cubs on paper. It comes down to who gets the breaks in make-or-break games and health.

A sweep against the Angels was very much needed. It's all going to come down to the final week of September it looks like. I don't think I remember the last time so many teams were in position for the playoffs.

The next month is going to be gut wrenching. I am prepared for it though. Reason is, Cubs weren't supposed to do anything this season anyway. If we make the Playoffs, the season will go down as a success and on the good level.

The Reds were supposed to be at the bottom of the division. I should be thankful we've stayed in the race for this long. Still kind of shocked at what's happening with the Cardinals. I assumed they'd snap out of it like normal and suddenly rise through the division in July to fight with Milwaukee.

Yeah I had the Cards winning the division before the season started. I even thought once August started, they would start to roll and do their usual. As in reel of a streak of something like 15-5 to start the month. I had the Pirates finishing last but what else is new. I pegged the Cubs and Reds around .500 and the Brewers as a possible Wild Card.

Great win tonight. Cubs are awesome. Another one Bites the Dust, Pirates go down! Cubs about their 2nd WS win over the last 7 seasons, I just feel it.  The Simpsons GIF by KiwiGo (KGO)

Cubs win, Colts win….It was a good night!!! Cubs are so unpredictable, keeping it close or losing against teams they should be beating. Makes me nervous, but this team will at least fight until the end, that’s all I want! We have some studs in the minors chomping at the bit for next season!!!

This a fun team to watch, they have ability to win it all but then again on certain nights look bad lol.

Cubs up 7-1 in the 8th Inning over the Pirates. We took advantage of the weak part of our schedule. If we hang on and win, no matter what happens with the rest of the teams today, we will be in the 5 spot of the playoff race. 6 teams get in. It will also mark the 1st time, we will be 8 games above .500 at 69-61.

This team has the 'IT' factor. We may not win the division, but we will make the playoffs.

Yeah in baseball it really is about just making the playoffs. Best thing baseball ever did was add Wildcard teams. I remember watching in the 80's and there was only 2 divisions in each league, only the division winners made the playoffs. You would have your NLCS and ALCS and that was it. Then the WS. It was frustrating because many years there were like 3 teams in the same division that were better than the 1 team that got in, in the other division. I like the 5 teams getting in, 6 teams is pushing it, I would not go more than 6 so they still have it right. You go more than 6 it takes away from the regular season then.

Time to stick a fork in the Reds. They are done. The rooks are gassed and have finally crashed back to Earth. If this team wants to do anything it has got to figure out pitching next year. That was supposed to be what David Bell was known for, but since becoming manager we've been one of the worst teams for pitching.

Congrats to all of the Cubbies fans on here. Go give the Brewers hell in October lol.

Arizona is a the pain in the rear, they are better than what I thought. It is far from over though.  Cubs aren't home free yet, we have a lot of tough games coming up including 4 at Cincy. This Brewers set has me uneasy, here lately they have been getting lucky as hell and have won 8 in a row. We need to get this 1st game.

Cubs should handle the Reds easy. I've noticed we've really only played well against sub .500 teams. Any team we've played that's within distance of making the playoffs the pitching folds like a deck of cards and the bats go silent.

Brewers are beatable after all. About time. Cubs end the Brewers 9 game win streak with fantastic pitching. A 1-0 shutout, Steele got another win, Alzolay closes it down. We keep a strangled hold on that 5th playoff spot at 70-62 and are now just 4 games behind the Brewers again in the NL Central. Rubber match tomorrow. Fly the Flag @HOZER
