Vet Poole who has played in 70 games with 38 starts over 5 seasons. Last year started 7 games with the Jets and graded out to a 77.1 on PFF.  Solid in coverage (10th in the league last year ) and a sure tackler.  Was considered one of the best slot corners on the market in the off season.

was just reading this.

here's the last couple years of history from wiki

  • New York Jets
    • On March 15, 2019, Poole signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the New York Jets. In week 12 against the Oakland Raiders, Poole recorded an interception off a pass thrown by Derek Carr and returned it for a 15 yard touchdown in the 34–3 win.
    • On March 21, 2020, Poole re-signed with the Jets. He was placed on injured reserve on November 17, 2020 after suffering shoulder and knee injuries in Week 9.
  • New Orleans Saints
    • On July 25, 2021, Poole signed a one-year contract with the New Orleans Saints. He was placed on injured reserve on August 24, 2021. He was released on October 12.
  • New England Patriots
    • On October 27, 2021, Poole was signed to the New England Patriots practice squad. He was released on November 9.
  • Indianapolis Colts
    • On November 22, 2021, Poole was signed to the Indianapolis Colts practice squad.

The knee injury is probably why he is available. As a slot CB, that is a huge detriment. I am assuming he is past that, otherwise he would not have been signed. Can't be caught with poor quality depth if a situation like the Ravens game comes up trotting out BoPete Keyes vs Marquise Brown 1-on-1.

Don’t hate the signing but I wish it was Tre Boston.

IMO, Tre Boston will never happen. We won't offer him the $$ he thinks he's worth and his last visit with us didn't go well (as he so publicly complained about).

Who was the safety that was a pre-season star that was cut but signed by the Eagles? I keep forgetting his name.

My guess is Carrie (who is our back up NB) might not have recovered as well as they thought, or re-aggravated things.

I also think with Rodgers playing well he could possibly seize Rhodes starting spot so Poole could back up Moore, because agree Carrie may not have recovered well or could be at risk for re injury and Rodgers would not be an option in that scenario. We have Dennard on p.s. a quality vet but no rumblings of his elevation so thinking he may not be healthy still.

Rhodes had a pretty strong game IIRC. Not elite, but I know he had a PD and his passer rating allowed was pretty decent Sunday. Perhaps he's getting back to form.

I love what Rodgers is doing, but try really hard not to get overly excited. He's a liability in run D and his tackling in general is just limited. In short (pardon the pun), his size just limits some of the things he does. Purely my opinion, but too small to cover TEs in at NB, and bigger WRs are a mismatch on the perimeter and deep. No doubt he's doing well though. If he had a couple more inches, I think he'd be an elite type of DB.

On Carrie, he's not elite either, but he's very solid depth, and brings a lot of flexibility. Hope he's OK

Rodgers coverage will improve. I don't think his size is an issue. Also he is a speed corner, not many speed corners are the best tacklers. This is the area where I feel Ya-Sin really shines. I do think your tackling concerns are legit considering we play that type of defense. Corners need to tackle.

TEs or big Xs vs him would not be good. Too much body vs too little body.

Rock, Kenny, and Rhodes are those guys, not Rodgers. Anyone 6-3 or bigger is scary.

Right so he can cover everyone else not that. Which is a large amount of wr.

Man Keyes was a free 7 points each snap. Huge liability. Corner depth is starting to shape up. Still feel like we are missing a safety. I guess they are hoping Addae fills that role.

It baffles me why we elevated Keyes to the active roster with a vet like Dennard on the PS. I'd take him any day over Keyes.

You certainly can't choose who playing slot.

And even on the outside, any WR can line up on your side or motion to your side.

sounds like an issue every team has? only a few shutdown corners in the league that can play all over the field. Having a corner or two that don't have much experience is not unique to the colts.

It's not the issue of only a few shutdown corners. It's his 5-9 height and weight lol. Like I said, he's playing very well as depth, and improving. Not saying he can't continue to improve and overcome it, it's just he's a mismatch target that teams will look for. I'm a big fan of his, and incredibly happy with him as both returner and DB.

kenny has same height, is it an issue for him?

Kenny gets burnt plenty and also misses tackles. He's second in TDs allowed and co-leads the team with Oke in missed tackles. Rodgers has a higher missed tackle % though if you want to equalize on snaps.

Kenny though has 20lbs on Rodgers, and is a very willing tackler. Did you see that whiff of an effort Rodgers had a few weeks ago. Not even really and attempt to tackle, more of a weak push.

Vertical coverage, I'd take Rodgers over Kenny any day. In the box or slot, give me Moore.

Mentioning a lot of negatives without the positives.

Yup. Lot's of love, but tempered expectations.

I think he's one of my favorite players this year.

Very dynamic guy. I wouldn't mind seeing him get some snaps on O. Let him be a deep, go route specialist on a play or two.

I've been plenty positive about him. I just don't ignore the obvious elephant in the room, which is his 170lb weight and 5-9 height. If he had 20 more lbs and a few more inches, he might be one of the top CBs in the league. And again, not saying he can't overcome those things and be very productive. He's just starting out with very clear limitations. And like I just said to another poster, he's one of my favorite Colts players. I just have tempered expectations of him.

All NB are too small to cover TEs.... Some manage to do a passable job, but slot corners aren't the best choice to cover pretty much any starting quality NFL TE.....

Kenny does a much better job horizontally with TEs than he does vertically with fast WRs IMO.
