Hoyer did roll out to throw that pass TD to Rogers. I'd still say roll with Hoyer if you have any doubt for now vs the Dolphins.

Have JB ready for the divisional games coming up, hopefully TY can be back for the Texans game, which would matter more for tie-breakers than anything else. Texans have a brutal stretch coming up vs Ravens, Colts and Patriots in order. It is very possible they get to 6-4 before playing us on TNF, and even if we are 6-4 then, assuming a loss to the Jaguars where we don't do well typically, that would be THE tie-breaker game for the division, IMO.

Speaking of TY. Stephen Holder mentioned on the athletic poscast he thinks TY will be back before that 3-4 week mark that Reich said. He thinks Reich was being a little conservative.

It would be amazing  if he was back for the jags game. He said that 3-4 week time frame is for a normal person and he thinks TY is a fast healer.

I believe he has always played with a brace. Don’t know if it would be a different one then he wears now. Anyone know anything about that. That brace he wears might of saved his season.

Some QB's wear a certain type brace for protection (I know Luck, Ryan, and Tannehill, for 3, have).  But there are different braces for different situations. Here's just one site-

I'd call up Kelly for a week or two, and be 100% on JB's health. With the Jags/Houston/TN games in a row post Miami, we need him to be as close to perfect as possible. Those 3 games could easily make or crush our season. Two are our only home games vs TN and Jags, and the other is Houston, who we need a tie breaker over. It's probably the most important 3 game stretch of the year.

There's really no reason not to bring Kelly up. We'll have to cut one roster spot when Funch comes back in 2-3 weeks, so just make that cut now, bring Kelly up, and swap Kelly/Funch when Funch comes back.

Kelly would have to stay on the 53 man roster, or be subject to be claimed on the waiver wire.

What's this swap thing?

If Kelly is called up he will spend very little time with the ones.   Hoyer will get almost all the time with the ones.

Kelly might get a little time.  Might.  But most of his time will be with the twos plus whatever Kelly can get done post practice.

Which brings up an interesting question.  Who runs the 'scout' team this week in practice? I think Hoyer was doing it before JB's injury...

Reich can only go by what the Colts medical team tells him, he doesn't make any prognosis or projections on his own.  IF T.Y. heals fast, then he will be cleared faster than may have been 'projected'.  I would not want to see him come back to fast and re-aggravate it either. We'll see.

I know that. I just thought his comment was interesting. The way Reich said it though I can see why Holder was thinking that.

He cleared waivers once already, so likely he does again.

I was talking about bringing him up now and making whatever cut they are going to make for bringing Funch back just a week or so earlier, and then sending Kelly back to the PS. Sure it's a small dice roll with Kelly, but I'd say it was a bigger dice roll the first time. There were more teams looking for QBs at that time, than now IMO. Most teams without a QB now with a bad record are likely in the tank mode for the draft.

    • I think we are seeing growth from Ballard as a GM, which is what I would think everyone would hope for. He’s gone after free agents (even though they didn’t come here), he drafted a qb, put offers to move up in the 1st, and now drafted an edge that is actually productive instead of off upside. Hope it continues.
    • My bad, you’re right.  I don’t know who stats I was looking at last night lol.  Hennessy will do that. ;(   Well, Trey production might’ve been due to him being in a rotation over there in NO before he got to Cincy, with him being a third rounder.  But either way, Trey turned it on year 4.  So you’re right, I’ll give qwitty one more year.  Not saying qwitty is bad, but we do need more from that position.  And it seems Ballard and co agrees as this is his second attempt at trying to upgrade that position this off-season.   I agree with the pick, we can’t wait and hope for something when we have an opportunity to possibly upgrade at a premium position and one of the highest paying positions.  Due to the way the draft played out, We had the opportunity to pick the FIRST defensive player off the board, which also mean probably the BEST defensive player on the board (depending on how whoever looks at it).  We don’t know when we’ll have that opportunity if ever again.
    • Well said. For me the injury concern isn't the "right now" as much as it is "will it effect his longevity?" Unless I am forgetting someone, Manning is the only recollection I have of a similar sitch....Different position/age/etc. but he held up for like 3 or so years, before his skills diminished beyond effective......again I understand the differences but I don't think its known what the expectations are for any individual long term.....I hope its for a good long time.....but it does concern me, mostly because its not an injury procedure that has a lot of examples to draw from in terms of how it plays out long term.
    • Context is king. Thank you for sharing that. I'll look up some more information on his situation, or at least I will if my dang eye every slows down on swelling!
