I'm not sure how I feel about KC.  They were the hottest team in the league halfway through last year.  Then they lost Hunt.  Then they lost Ford and Houston.  Hills' availability is up in the air.

 

Clark might be an upgrade, but his salary... and what they gave up to get him...  and his domestic issue coupled with the domestic issues of Hunt and now Hill...  I guess the ends justify the means.

 

Mahomes is obviously good, but now that coaches have a full year of film on him, I don't know if the Chiefs are going to be this powerhouse going forward that some have made KC out to be.

Glad CB didn't pull the trigger on a trade. That's quite too much. And the salary will force them into some tough decisions the next years.

People on here thought our first round pick would be too much... I knew they'd get a chunk for him, and his contract isn't surprising. Way out of line, in my opinion. He just got paid bigger (contract plus what the dealt for him) than Lawrence and isn't better, at all... Ballard sat back and watched and is probably smiling at this ongoing circus of stupid money being tossed around this offseason.  

 

I was in favor of exploring and pulling the trigger if it made sense. This doesn't make sense...

So a 1st round pick, 2nd round pick, and $21 mil/year.  That's a lot to give up.

Ballard probably said the same thing, but at least he helped drive up the price for what was an ascending Chiefs team!

I'm actually curious if the Chiefs offered the 29th pick, Ballard offered the 26th pick, then the Chiefs said, screw it, you can have our 1st this year and 2nd next year! Ballard then says, ok, you win (meaning you lose), and lets them have him.

Well, its obvious to me that KC didn't think Ford and Houston were good enough to get them to the next level (and they're probably right).  Trading a few high picks to get a guy without a long term contract suggests that Clark is an immediate upgrade over those two.

 

TBD if KC feels that Clark is a long term decision.

KC had one of the worst defenses in football last year, and the problems were right up the middle. They would have been better off trying to get some beef in the middle..

You should've waited to see whether they'd hand him a contract before saying that he's a guy without a long term contract. Usually when teams trade for a star pass rusher who was in line for a contract, they pay him. It's what happened to Khalil Mack and Dee Ford.

 

The reason why KC didn't want to pay Dee Ford wasn't because of talent, it was because they're switching to a 4-3 and they don't think he'll fit the scheme. I still think they should've paid him, but I digress...

 

In sum, here's what the Chiefs received and gave from the Dee Ford and Frank Clark trades

 

Received: Frank Clark (paid average annual salary of $21.1 million), 2020 2nd round pick, 3rd round pick (No. 84 overall)

 

Gave: Dee Ford (49ers paid average annual salary of $17.1 million), 1st round pick (No. 29 overall), 2020 2nd round pick, 3rd round pick (No. 92 overall)

 

To over-simplify things, the Chiefs basically traded Dee Ford and a 1st for Frank Clark
