2017-2018 Indiana Pacers and Everything NBA Thread

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, wanted to pop in and say hi. I been super busy but it's been worth it. I will pop in from time to time with these games for the first few rounds.

I am really ticked off Lebron did what I thought he would do which was avoid Miami in round 1. He hates to play his ghosts of the past and he is 0-8 in Miami since leaving there. It is what it is though. I really wish Lebron would have went harder for the 3 seed.

I drifted off from some NBA but still try to support the C's a bit for my fiance (life long Celtics fan).

The Irving thing was just sad, was just like any shot at going to the finals vanished. But to be real, without Hayward they were not a real contender this year. It was a development year.

I am sort of glad now they shut down Kyrie for the year, he wanted to play and push through it all but they found out he had an infection around the screws in his knee so they had to shut it all down and remove the hardware. His knee is 100% healed.......from the knee break in 2015. But all that hardware was recently removed and it's a rehab process until training camp now.  You can't mess with an infection and they caught it in time.

Since Irving is still young, I think Boston did the right thing. Word is IT pushed through his hip thing last year and it has cost him bad. They wanted to fix Kyrie now so he and Hayward can be on the same track.

As for Leonard, yeah this is true. C's insiders have said Boston has already been in contact with the Spurs but nobody knows what is going on with Leonard and if he will even be available.

Some speculate the C's are trying and hoping to showcase their young guys too for a potential trade; Brown, Tatum, Rozier etc. Since Irving has been out, Rozier has been hot and cold but I think they might keep him since he is under contract for another year. And Tatum/Brown are no joke.

Not sure I buy all these rumors yet though.

Round 1 will be interesting. If Boston got any break at all it's their bracket. Avoiding Washington (a death sentence with Beal/Wall with no Irving/Smart) and Lebron if they beat the Bucks is the best they could have hoped for.

This postseason btw sets up horribly for the Raptors too.....they got the tough bracket.

Wishing the best of luck for the Pacers but if it don't happen don't feel bad, Victor is still young and new at being the man and it's just a tough load with Lebron in the conference.

I don't know what to expect from the Bucks too but the C's have the obvious coaching advantage and will have to just rotate defensive schemes with all their guys at the Greek Freak.

Boston is still the #1 D, but the scoring can go into hiding at times lol.

Nice seeing you again, how ya been? I pick Boston to beat the Bucks. Bucks just don't impress me. Pacers/Cavs will be interesting, I hate drawing LeBron in Round 1 though. Watch out for the Thunder in the West.

I been great. But I am hearing more about the damn Red Sox now with my almost husband. lmao

How you been?

I think Bucks/Celtics is such a weird series. A few weeks ago Boston lost by 4 to them on the road without Rozier or ANY real PG for that matter. It was just Stevens throwing all his tall guys at the Bucks in rotations.

I am hearing Boston hopes so much to get this one series and stuff. The guys left still have tons of pride in them. But someone will have to get hot again; Rozier, Brown, Morris etc.....

You all seem to get Lebron a lot. I will just say this, the Cavs as usual are really really confusing. Lebron is a monster this year when he tries. But the rest of the team outside of Love is kinda odd.....

Also I fear Lebron is on a mission to try and prove he can do this without Irving. I am almost glad Irving is out this year with the knee since I was almost afraid if we get Boston/Cleveland that it would get rough.

Stopping playoff Lebron is really tough though. I know Raptors fans talk about this constantly on social media too I have heard. How do you "limit" him?

I just remember Paul Pierce once saying the best way to stop Lebron is to let him shoot all those jumpers and avoid going to the basket. Problem is, Lebron shoots better now then 10 years ago.

Some of those role players around on the Cavs are no joke though if they get hot.

I will say this, if the Pacers DO have one big big advantage it's being a hard working never quit team. You have to constantly be engaged in a series vs. Lebron and prove to him in the first two games there is no quit and you will keep going until it's over. Lebron teams TRY to make you quit in the first half.

Regarding the Celtics, next season if they stay healthy they will be the team to beat IMO. Brad won 55 games this season. Add Kyrie and Hayward to that team and that is lethal. They play better Defense than the lazy Bucks and are much better Coached. Bucks have Greek Freak but he wont be enough IMO. The RedSox do look Great so far lmao, cant deny that. Pacers have to get Game 1 vs LeBron, if they don't then the % of beating them is small. When LeBron loses Game 1 of any series, he normally loses but he rarely does lose Game 1. Have to put pressure on him.

Also Lebron seems really angry this year to me. Not sure why......

He could be leaving, or he is just still mad at all the turmoil that his team went through this year.

But he seems mad, he never has played in every single game lol.

I will be real curious to see how the Cavs and Pacers both come out in Game 1? If the Pacers come out aggressive that is a great sign, if not that is Bad haha. When LeBron can dictate a series, it's over.

Oh yeah I do admit the Red Sox look killer early on lol. I am a bit concerned Giannis will get all the calls too like you are worried about Lebron. All Giannis does is travel anyway on the court.

Hoping Terry Rozier can channel some playoff Irving. It will be tough, he's young. Terry though worships Irving and really studied him all season.

The guy who I think will suprise is Jaylen Brown, he shows up at times in big games. C's just need to play lethal defense and hope the calls don't go against them and that they can score enough.

If the Celtics can crack 100 this past month, often they win.

BTW Lance Stephenson can't get too nuts on Lebron in Cleveland early on or the refs will turn on you guys.

It's really tough to say, any series vs. Lebron and especially early on is tough to call. I mean, who IS this Cavs team? Most Cavs fans have zero worries due to Lebron.

Hearing Tristan Thompson is not part of the playoff rotation as of now, maybe for his off the court crap too. But he has been slowly distanced from the team and I admit, they are better without him.

The east is just a mess.

Philly is a team I can't figure out too. They have this 16 game win streak just like Boston did early in the year. Often when a team wins that many in a row, I think a loss is coming.

I think the league loves Philly too and I even seen predictions of Philly to the finals. I think they are too young though.

I don't think Miami will go down easy and they might shock us. Thats a hard working defensive team.......

Raptors are the ones who have the most to lose this postseason. Getting the Wizards is just bad though. If Wall/Beal show up they can give the Raptors some hell. The Wizards are a hell-ish 8th seed.......I don't even think the Wizards at times were trying lately.

I used to think Washington was tanking to play the Celtics since Irving is out and Smart is out until the next round if the C's make it that far. Then rumor was they were trying to get Toronto. WTH? It's as if nobody respects the Raptors. lmao

Everyone is on Philly's jock strap in the media lmao. I wanted them and not LeBron. Pacers would've definitely beat them because of the Embiid injury.

Philly has been pretty impressive lately but so did Boston early in the season. Sometimes young guys can get hot but then when they get cold they get COLD. I think Ben Simmons has potential to be an amazing player, but he has a lot of work to do with his jump shot. This Philly team lacks experience in the playoffs, going to be interesting.

Embiid will be back eventually this series but I am curious if the refs give heavy calls to help out the Sixers or not.  Miami can and might win this series though if they can get them in one of the first two games.

Really though this east crap is so hard to call........I would never bet money on this. If Boston had not turned into a hospital team I would have picked Boston.

In the west, if Curry comes back and it sounds like he will, I still like the Warriors. Rockets are like the Raptors, prove it or shut up.

Just good luck guys, playing Lebron is scary, but the Pacers just have to do the best they can. I will admit, if the Cavs did lose this series it's one of the biggest upsets I have seen to have Lebron lose in a round 1.

I fear though the Pacers get screwed.

Key to any series for a road team is to get Game 1. When they do that they win 77% of all series and 88% of the time it goes to Game 7 at least.

Not sure, if the Bucks won game 1 and then the C's regrouped for game 2, I would call the series far from over.

I think that depends also on who the opponent is. If it's the Bucks yeah, whatever. If it's Lebron or the Warriors, yeah it's important early on to try to steal wins.

Blah, I miss my all star studs in green.......come back......come back healthy you lovely men. lmao

I saw some video recently of Gordon Hayward jogging. He looks bigger though in his upper body now.

On a side note, as soon as Hayward got hurt I read Paul George contacted Gordon and they were in constant contact for months. PG really gave tons of advice to Hayward and I am happy to hear that.

Sadly all I hear about now is the damn Red Sox.:violin:My soon to be husband was running around like a 5 year old when they beat up the Yankees last week.

^^^Cavs playoff stuff....

BTW can't watch any games tomorrow, booooo. I am going to the Bruins playoffs with my fiance and a buddy of his.

Sixers/Heat has me most intrigued though. Heat ended the Celtics 16 game win streak early in the year and now they have a chance to do it with the Sixers. C's streak was more impressive anyway, they had beaten a healthy Warriors team during it and various playoff teams.

I will be around a bit Sunday but man oh man I won't get my hopes up on anything this year in the NBA. Since when I do, a player gets hurt. lmao I am best off just letting it all fall the way it is meant to fall this year.....not much we can all do at this point.

Nobody knows what Cleveland will change defensively but they've had four days.

Talk is that the Cavaliers will run multiple defenders at Victor as soon as he touches the ball late in the shot clock.

They will leave anyone but Collison and Bogdonavich and dare all others to make shots..

The Cavs are said to want a slower pace because they don't have a lot of speed and so the top guys can play 40-45 minutes.

Tyron Lue didn't actually  say this but it looks like Tristan Thomspon wont play much.

They'll go with Jeff Green and Larry Nance at center

There is concern about the Pacers speed.....Cavs have over 30 guys like LBJ, Kevin Love, George Hill, JR, Korver, Jose Calderon.  These are not speed demons.

They seem to hope the natural slowing of the game in the post-season will help them.

..and they have LeBron.

Eventhough it's only one game, Game 1 will show me a lot, whether or not we are just the quicker/better/deeper team, whether or not we fear them. We get that game, our chances of winning the series is better than 50/50 at that point. This should be a series that Myles Turner should dominate statistically. Cavs are going to be worried about our Guard play with Dipo and Collison because they both are dangerous players. They will also try to make sure Bogdanovic isn't open either from 3. Turner is better than any Big they have. If Turner comes up huge, look out.

It looks like Kyle Korver could miss Sunday's Game 1 against the Pacers.

Officially he will be listed as questionable...

He may dress but they are concerned putting him on the floor with a foot injury against our guards

That would certainly help the Pacers.

You said it, CBE.

The guys who can push Myles Turner around are not in this series.....

The Cavs have to get him out of the lane so LeBron can drive to the basket..so we have to let guys like Nance and Green have some open shots.

But Love cant keep Myles from getting his shot off and neither can Nance or Green.

Myles can score 20 a game in this series and we need him to

Love is a Great player but cant handle Turner inside. This is where Turner has a chance to earn his money. Love is a PF by nature not a Center.

Myles is the key to the Pacers in this series IMO. He cant disappear like he has the past 10 games or so. Like you said he needs to get at least 20 every game. Oladipo will get his but it cant be a one man show for us.

We are going to need just 4 games where Turner gives us 20 and 10. If he plays Bad in the other 3 we still will be ok. LeBron is going to have at least 2 games where he scores almost 40, maybe over 40. In those 2, Turner and Bogdanovic have to offset that and Oladipo just needs to have usual games.

Absolutely. Think Sabonis will need at least one 25+ point game in there somewhere too.

I'm not sure who Kevin Love guards on our team.

I think Thad Young can isolate against him and get some shots...

Love is a great rebounder....and we need to occupy him so he cant hang neat the basket..

......What I dont know about the Cavs is how will Rodney Hood and Jordan Clarkson play.

They both average double figures but can they score in playoff games

Do you think Cory Jospeh will match up with Clarkson...or Glenn Robinson

When they take Love off the floor...Sabonis can get his rebounds, too...

Booker and Sabonis figure to outrebounded their second team forwards Nance and (I dont know who)

I think LeBron will play 45 minute sin a close game...

WE just have to throw multiple defenders against him.

Bogdonavich ,Lance...and Glenn Robinson...Glenn has to 'D' up LBJ and Clarkson as much as he can

..and make LeBron work if he's going to be the point guard..don't let him walk the ball up the floor with nobody on him...

..what occurs to me about the NBA and NHL playoffs.

These are the only sports where you never play the same team 5 or 6 times in a row during the regular season but you do that in the post-season..///  Game plans matter so much here./...

....LeBron can get lazy on defense when the game gets fast...

George Hill is Good defensively so he worries me a bit putting a clamps on Collison. Collison is a Great 3pt shooter though.

I keep hearing how we're a young team.....but that's said by folks who haven't taken a hard look.

Bogdonavich is 28, he's played in the Olympics...Cory Joseph was on the bench in San Antonio when they won.

Thad Young has played almost 10 years...and Collison HAS played 10 years. (actually its the other way around)

We wont use any rookie or second year players in this series..

As a whole we are young but have a nice mix of VETS too like you pointed out. We can go 9 GOOD deep easily with our team since Robinson is back. Lance could end up being one of the main keys in this series too if we do win.

I don't know why you guys are so adamant at looking at the regular season to determine that the Pacers are going to beat the Cavs.

1. We've never played this Cavs team before.

2. LeBron gets even better during the playoffs.

3. Even if the Cavs roster as been worse than previous years, they still have a lot more experience than our team does in the postseason and anyone on their roster can go off at a certain time (JR, Korver, Hood)

I'd rather play the choking Raptors team 7 days a week.

Lets see what happens in Game 1 1st before we are quick to judge. I am on record saying I hate this matchup and have said it for a month actually. I get the LeBron nonsense, how he doesn't lose in Round 1, how the REFS will help him. I have Posted this probably 100 times lmao. I love our Roster though and the way we play together and win close games so it's not Impossible we could pull the upset. All of these people picking sweep will be stunned when this thing goes 7. I went out on a limb and picked Indy in 7 just because every once in a while I roll that way picking 1 upset. Of course if the Cavs win the series, not 1 person would be shocked. We have nothing to lose IMO.

I am very proud of how the Pacers have played this season. I just don't want to see people saying that we were the better team, the refs cheated, or anything about how we underperformed and we should fire Nate McMillan if we lose to the Cavs. No excuses in a 7-game series.

It is common for fans to hype themselves up thinking they can win a matchup we are not suppose to win, and then look to blame people when we lose. I know we'll put up a good fight but I'm not expecting anything.

And I'm sick of people dogging LeBron for no reason. He's done nothing but be the greatest player in the game for years and the quintessential role model for children all around the world. Saying he isn't better than MJ is one thing, but I don't like the disrespect he gets.
