What udfa do you see making the roster this year?

Colts have a long streak of atleast 1 udfa making the 53 man roster and I think we will probably have more than 1 this year.

1. Josh Ferguson, with as much praise and reps he's getting with luck I almost think he will be a lock to make the 53 barring injury or terrible pre season play

2. Tevaun Smith. With the the colts sounding like they are are going to more of a 3 WR set I see the colts keeping a couple extra WR on the roster. Smith has good size, speed and hands and has gotten praise.

3. Mekale Mckay. In my initial review of udfa I didn't think he would have much or a shot because he was pretty raw and hands don't look great on film but this camp has been good for him and it sounds opposite. He's gotten praise for his route running and hasn't been much of a mention of drops. The Colts could definitely use someone with his size (6'4 and runs a 4.5 40).

4. Curt Maggit. This is one I beleive is the least likely but the lack of depth at the position gives him hope. His injuries have been hampering him so the preseason games are incredibly important for him.

It's still a tad early and there's all preseason but with the end of training camp (for the public) I figured it'd be a good discussion. Who do you think will make the final 53?

Wouldn't mind seeing Mckay make it if he's unbuttered his hands.  Love that size and we need a Kelvin Benjamin/Devin Funchess type of threat on this team.   I've heard some mentions of Tevaun Smith but not as much as I thought I would hear.

Chester Rogers has been getting more recognition than any of the UDFA WR guys so he's got a good shot it seems.

Everyone in Huntsville, AL is routing for him.  But as soon as that other professional team from Tuscaloosa starts playing, they'll forget about him.

Have very high expectations Ferguson will make it.  Defensively speaking I expect Ron Thompson to make the cut.  I'm not sure where I'm at on Maggitt at this point.  It's been too quiet so I don't know what to think.  I think Stefan Mcclure will make it in some capacity at safety.  Either as depth or pure special teamer.

I've heard alot about Ron thompson I just really need to watch his tape because I don't have enough knowledge to say whether he would or wouldnt. Maggit I have a feeling will makes his presence known in a pre season game and there dropping him into coverage in practice. You could be right about chester though he's sounding inpressive

Yep, I think Ron makes the roster too.

Josh Ferguson should be able to make the team with the uncertainty behind Gore.  I think for HBs it will be Gore/Ferguson/Turbin or Gore/Ferguson/Todman.

Right now we have three WRs (Hilton/Moncrief/Hilton) locked for a roster spot.  Quan Bray will probably make the team but for right now he's mainly a return specialist, I haven't seen much of him as a WR.  We will probably carry 5 to 6 WRs, so I could see Tevaun Smith, Mekale McKay, or Chester Rogers making the team. I think Rogers right now has the best shot but we'll see how preseason plays out.

For veteran OLBs on the team we have Mathis, Cole, Walden, and Okine, who just switched from DE.  I think Bates will make the team so that is 5 OLBs.  I could see Thompson making it so we have more youth at the position and because Okine can play DE as well with the injuries we have on the D-Line.

>> Keep an eye on: Edwin Jackson

If you notice a blur flying across your television screen during the Colts’ preseason opener against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday, there’s a decent chance it will be inside linebacker Edwin Jackson.

The Colts, according to a source, considered promoting Jackson to their active roster late last season after he was added to the practice squad. There wasn’t room for him on the roster then, but he’s going to give coaches and the front office lots to think about if his play in the preseason matches his practice performance.

Jackson is a high-energy, sideline-to-sideline player who gets to the ball in a hurry. On the first day in pads, he showed some diversity in his game, making an impressive interception.

Jackson is in his second year out of Georgia Southern, a program that only recently joined FBC, and is yet to find a home in the NFL. He remains a raw talent and still must grow by leaps and bounds to become an NFL mainstay.

But suffice it to say Jackson has the Colts’ attention.

Ferguson is a lock IMO. He's been getting tons of praise and they're always talking about him.

I also think Maggitt if he's healthy for all 4 pre-season games. He's got talent.

I think Swoope finally cashes in and proves the 2 years he spent developing were worth it.

Barring a wild injury or Ferguson turns into a fumble machine during the preseason,  I think its a safe bet he makes the roster. He got a signing bonus didn't he? Can't imagine he was given a signing bonus for the heck of it.

What do people think about Ron Thompson? Could he make the 53?

Didnt Carter get a bonus last year?

He has to show he can pick up a block and also hold onto the ball.  I think he's going to be a very good receiver.

I think Ferguson might be the only one to make it the 53 man on O Tevaun Smith has a good shot if we keep 6 WR's. I'm not counting Swoope he's been on the PS for 2yrs. I'm looking at 2016 UDFA.

On D I think Thompson has the best shot. A guy like Rose White or Milton could sneak in there. I'm excited to see the young DB's. Simmons is a guy I think might surprise and take advantage of the DL injuries.

I think several guys crack the PS. However I see the following undrafted rookies cracking the 53:

1.Darius White-CB

2.Curt Maggit-OLB

3.Josh Ferguson-RB

4.Stefan McClure-S

5.Dont sleep on Chester Rogers WR

6.Ron Thompson-OLB

7.Delvon Simmons DT (Injuries to the D Line really help his cause more than anything)

Pre Preseason predictions. Ill adjust as we go along

I'll just make one after each pre season game so we have something to talk about haha  plus our opinions will probably change and players will shine in game and make the 53 just like varga did lady year

I like Simmons as a sleeper too. I think your list is a good start. I think Thompson and Ferguson find their way on the roster.

The guy getting a lot of attention I'm not so high on is Maggitt. I am anxious to see what we do with the LB's. We have some interesting DB's too. It should be a competative preseason.

Everyone talks about the numbers Green put up at the combine Southward was a tad better at nearly every event.

    • Yep, Ballard and Irsay have sold the "illusion of hope". That's what happens when you draft a QB 4th overall. People will become positive and pay their hard-earned money to see if we can win again. Of course, Manning and Luck set a precedent for that as well. These fans are positive because of them more than anything Ballard has done as GM.    These fans are mostly casuals as well and don't pay attention to the team like this forum does. Them going doesn't make the team any more or less likely to win. All it means is they are loyal at best, and naive at worst thinking things will randomly be different. All Irsay and Ballard have to do is change things every year and sell a false bill of goods to convince fans to keep coming. It's also hard to quit on a sports team and lots of fans are diehards. Finally, not all the fans who go to the games are optimists. Some know what is going on with the team and they go anyway because they live in Indiana, or they are rich, or they are taking their kids. Lots of reasons.    It's not even the fact that you're "bullying" that bothers me. It's the fact that your bullying is disguised as being a positive fan that defends the team that's irritating. If it were a negative fan doing what you do, they'd get in trouble on here for it. You have an agenda, you like to start arguments with people because of that disguised bullying, and you know you'll get away with it because it makes you look like you're defending the team from negativity.    Also ironically, I wrote 5 paragraphs in my previous post, and you deflected away from most of it.
    • The NFL announced the date and time for every preseason game for the upcoming season. And the Indianapolis Colts picked up a primetime game.  The Colts will travel to take on the Cincinnati Bengals at 8 pm EST on Amazon Prime.
    • I'm not sure if you heard,   season tickets are sold out for this season.   There are far more positive fans than those calling draft picks spoiled brats over normal contract language.   My credibility here isn't something I spend anytime thinking about.   If calling people out on their nonsense is "bullying" in your opinion,   maybe the internet isn't for you.
    • Irsay doesn't care about your opinion either. White knighting for the Colts and bullying posters who are negative because they are frustrated with the team since 2014 isn't a good look for you. People don't cry because the team doesn't do what they think they should do, they cry because coaches and GMs that are professionals in their field are either unqualified to do their job (Grigson), or refuse to learn from their mistakes (Pagano, Reich, and Ballard until recently).    This forum just wants to win at this point. Ballard has never won the division. We want to win in the playoffs. Ballard has won 1 playoff game. We want to win games. Ballard is 54-60-1. You know all this, and you deflect it all the time. All you can say is Ballard knows more than people on the forum, as if that makes him a top GM in the NFL.    I don't care if Ballard does things the way I think as long as we are winning. The problem is the way Ballard is doing things, we are not winning. So it adds more ammo that his way isn't working. You compare that to a team like the 49ers, where John Lynch took over the same year as Ballard, and they are winning, and that's not even the fans thinking they know more, that's an actual GM knowing more as an example.    The last point I'm going to make is injuries. We have gotten very unlucky with injuries. That's part of the reason (myself included) a lot of people are negative on this forum. Injuries to top players all over the place have hurt this team. You can pretend like this is a new year and it shouldn't matter and that's in the past, but we're affected by what's happened in prior years, and injuries happen every year. We're already getting injury scares this year with Pittman and Richardson and Daniel Scott is done again.    The bottom line is this forum is going to be negative to an extent until we win. You can pretend everything is great and take out your frustrations on people who don't think the way you do, but you've been wrong since 2015 thinking the way you do, and Ballard's whole tenure. You have no credibility with your position right now. Your only defense is that you think "some of you would rather be right and see the team fail."  We want to win, We just aren't buying it until we see it now. Maybe AR gets the job done, but until he does, it's just more hope.
    • LOL. says the guy that is negative about every aspect of the Colts since your apparent best friend Grigson got fired.      My agenda is and will always be to hope the Colts do well.   Not poo poo everything the team does.   Contrary to the belief of a few here,   Irsay doesn't care about your opinions.   He is going to do what he thinks is the best for the team.    I'll never understand those that cry when the team doesn't do what they think they should do.     Some of you would rather be right, and see the team fail.   I'll never be that fan.   But hey,   you do you
