If Dress Rehearsal Game Showed The True Colts Colors...

So you'd save money, but lose production?

Walden is the better option. Mathis & Cole aren't getting any younger & Werner isn't getting any better. Now if we draft someone who immediately comes in and starts let's say opposite Newsome then I'd be fine with letting Walden walk. But right now Grigson & our cap guy who's name is slipping this mind of mine have done fabulous in terms of cap management. I don't think a Walden contract would kill us

And then if Arthur Jones ankle is serious, we could be letting him go as that'll be his second time losing the season to an ankle injury. He's going to see a specialist as we speak so that's not a good sign already

Yes, I would save money. Same for Toler and Thomas. Cut them, re-sign AC, Luck, Allen. Sign quality backups for less money. Other teams have "to bad to be full-time starter, to expensive to be backup" also. Let's look at them.

... and trade Fleener, Carter and 1st round pick for Luke Kuechly! :)

He should be cut but this staff has shown they hate to admit they're wrong until it's just unbearable

So someone better than Werner will be cut just cause of that. Grigson won't allow the coaches to cut his former first round pick that easily

It's really bad that our staff is like that. The NFL is a gamble, if they don't work out show them the door

TKnight24, lemme ask you a question. (you may have already answered this in other threads, dunno) If, in your opinion, agree that Grigson and the powers that be have done a good job with the cap, why would you come to the consensus that the coaching staff is on a continual hand-cuffed basis from him when it comes to keeping/selecting good talent? It appears to me that our 1st team have performed admirably over the last couple of years by an overall standard of improvement. I know you're targeting 1st rounders, however, that's not the full picture to me. Just trying to understand your position better.

I believe we could get someone better than Werner, for Werner price tag. Or keep Walden who's much more productive but also more expensive but not like a Von Miller expensive

Werner had a solid game last night, he didn't do anything spectacular but he did is job about as well as it could done.  The ILBs even Herra (whom I have been impressed with) were slow to fill when the RB turned it up inside.

Very solid, sealed his edge and handled his business.

Okay. Yeah, I can see how that's the way to go for some. But, I really don't believe our 1st rounders are held "ad infinitude" just because of egotistical reasoning. I agree with you that some of the picks haven't panned out according to perfect platitudes. Pretty much takes several seasons for players, no matter how talented, to achieve such hopes. I get what you're driving at, and results are always at a "right now" caption, it's just not statistically likely. I think we'll be alright from what we've seen out of Werner v. Walden. Not necessarily a throw away, but with the inclination of getting better each season. So, why gamble? And if you would, who would you want to target besides Walden at the same price?

As far as Dorsett, I personally, would've chosen Goldman. I'm a defensive guy. However, I support the BPA move by the Colts after waiting through the entire draft and realizing what we actually "got for the money". They had a very good, decent, & solid draft IMO.

At least we found that they can pass protect. The 2nd stringers om the o-line  ALL look fringe to me though.-Save Good whom is an untapped rookie-  And the guards need upgraded.

The defensive front 7 depth is good.  most linemen we have played well.  and the linebackers were all adequate.  even Werner didn't do 'horrible'.  he didn't stand out like Walden, but was not overly horrible like some said he was.

Louis and Herrimans.....who will drop to 2nd string when Donald gets healthy is my question.

Wouldn't mind a Courtney Upshaw type guy or any mid tier guy that we won't have to break the bank on

Fair enough. Fair enough. Here's hoping that the entire starting DL performs on a very high level. We need for that to happen, with no excuses in between.

This team is going to go as far as the run game will take us as well as being able to tackle well. We know we can pass the ball. I still think we are a year or so away

We don't have the interior pieces of the O Line in place. Holmes can factor into that but Herremans and Louis don't long term

Chapman is not the answer at NT and Im not sure Jones is either at DT even if he could stay healthy because when healthy he has not played well....Both have been on the ground to much

.

ILB's that look to drag down tackle rather then come down hill with bad intentions most of the time

With that said being able to run the ball with some consistency (good) could go a long way of masking almost all our problems.

But Im sure going to enjoy the team trying to get to the SB and I'd love to eat crow if they get there

Courtney Upshaw is kind of thin in the sacks department himself.  He only had about 3 to 4 sacks last year, so same as werner.

They are both pretty adequate against the run.

I don't think they showed their true colors.  Johnson didn't play after he score the TD and Gore didn't play.  Those are two big cogs that seem to be being kept under wraps.  They also seemed to be giving guys like Robinson, Reitz, and Carter a look with the first team just to see what they can do.  I think they were still trying things especially on offense.

As for defense that was probably closer but I do think we will see more blitzs once the season starts.  Clearly the Jones injury changed things a little bit but I think the Colts were probably happy with what they saw from Anderson.  Worth noting they were also down a starting corner last night but the second round draft pick also played pretty well.  At least through pre-season this looks to be a very strong draft class from Grigson.

Walden looks freaking massive. Any time he gets a sack or tackle, to me, he just envelopes and swallows the guy. Lol. Very impressed with him since coming here.

When we got him after Packers let him walk I was stoked cause heʻs a hell of a player and the Packers had too much talent to keep him....heʻs gonna have a big year with Cole and Mathis around him #GOCOLTS

People bashed him all over the place when Grigson signed him and he has developed into the best free agent of that class and frankly a pretty good player overall.

But he had quite a few messes, one being Werner over Lacy, I know RBʻs donʻt usually donʻt go in the 1st rd. but itʻs the end of the 1st rd. and a good spot to pick a RB especially someone like Lacy who I believed to be a lot better than T. Richardson

I was going for more of an individual look.  But yeah, when Indy  starts scheming games, they should look better.

I agree about the draft class.  we got great talent. for me the biggest surprise of preseason so far is Herrera. I knew he could tackle, but he just did not seem to have much hip movement, or lateral action in college tape i watched.  I didn't think he would even make the team then.  Now he looks like a lock at 3rd ILB -until we get a look at Irving atleast-.

Overall, I think our defense can be top 10, easily.  WE kept our good players in pass defense, and added good ones.

And our front 7 seems like a major overhaul, in a good way. out of 7 starters, only DQ, Freeman and Jones are the starters now.

Offensively, lets just say if our guards can just hold it together for 2 seconds at a time,...the sky's the limit. - But i  fear our guards are our serious weak link.-

That is EXACTLY his job and he did it well. No he's not flashy, but he's soild and getting better. No he won't be a sack machine, but he's a sure tackler and doesn't get moved easily off the edge. Most of the posters that rip him seem to think he should be a Larwence Taylor clone, he's not but he's soild..
