Cornerback positions

IMO Toler is unfairly picked on a lot.

Our pass rush the past year was horrible... QB's had ALL day to throw against us. And when you consider Vontae was on the other side of the field, of course teams were going to throw Toler's way a lot. It's a miracle he didnt get burned more than he did...

If Mathis returns to anywhere near his pre injured form and we get another decent pass rushing presence, our D is going to look a heckuva lot better than it did last year. It'll allow us to focus on the run D a lot more as well....

Patrick Peterson is literally the most over rated and over payed player in the NFL. That guy get's balled on by any receiver with some talent. I think Cromartie was probably better than him this season too. Toler is a solid number 2 who's better than some teams number 1.

Toler is ok, he is decent to solid in any given week. He only has one year left on his deal.

I would absolutely love for us to draft Marcus Peters in the first round. Great press corner who plays a physical brand of football. I have no problem with his 4.53 forty time. In the third round, I would not mind seeing us add either Eric Rowe from Utah or Jacoby Glenn from Central Florida. Rowe can also play safety. Glenn is a redshirt sophomore who played for one of the more underrated defenses in college football last season. Both are over 6'0"

I would be fine with letting Butler and Gordy walk in free agency. Put the money towards McCourtey, Dan Williams, and perhaps Pernell McPhee. Get three quality starters.

God I hope this does not happen...

Why do we carry him every year?

For the reasons you mentioned.  Pagano knows the secondary.  I feel like he just will not give up on Price.  Why not with that size?

He was awful the first preseason.  He looked respectable but not quite ready this past year.  I know Grigson loves Price.

I've let it be known my thoughts on Toler before, but he played ok this year. More importantly, he didn't get hurt which is amazing.

It won't happen, but I'd be ok going after Byron Maxwell. Either way, we desperately need more depth at CB. Butler is great in the slot, but we can't keep moving him outside whenever Toler goes down. Plus, Gordy is meh. We need some quality depth.

IMO, we will focus more cap money on D-Line instead (which is our biggest need right meow)

Maxwell is a little more than depth you are talking about most likely the top FA CB on the market. It would be nice to be able to have that sort of depth but that's just not realistic. He is looking for 10 M a year.

I like Malcolm Brown from Texas at 29.  He may get taken by Gree Bay just before us.  I hope Grigs does not bring in Raji from GB.

Pagno is the CB guru maybe he has worked his magic on Price finally. We sure have held on to him for a while. He has good size 6'1 and speed 4.47. There has to be a reason we keep him around.

Probably not but wishful thinking

You post 2 great reasons to keep him and... he has been getting coached up on the mental aspects.

Come on Chuck, show us that you are good in your area of expertise.

I would think he has a great opportunity to get the #4 corner spot. I wish him good luck.

Love Brown boo Raji. I think Brown might be there. I just hope it's not Peters or a RB like I have seen so many mocks. No more problem children please.

I had high hopes for him last year as well.

Oh for sure. We would get rid of Toler if Maxwell was brought in. Sorry, I should've stated that more clearly.

I feel that Toler feeds on momentum. If he/the rest of the defense are having a good game, then he's a stud. But if he's having an off day, or there is no pass rush, or we're getting run on, that's when he's bad, and that's when he's picked on.

I think that could apply to most players that's why momentum shifts effect games so drastically.

Couldnt agree more. Im so glad we released our "ill play whenever I feel like it" players. I find it so hard to believe rjf was a 49er with his inconsistency.

And laron was just so muscled up he cant even maintain his balance or cover a guy

    • All - this is the real question.   What do the 32 GMs in the league know that the rest of us (we're on the outside looking in) don't know?   Answer that question and you'll have what you need to analyze the choices made by the leadership of your favorite team.
    • We have the weak secondary where a player in FA can be signed for a year and get a starting job. We also have the money to afford any of them. Not too many other teams have that combination of both factors right now. Also, the draft recently happened and I'm guessing a lot of these teams want to try out their early round picks in the secondary right now. We didn't draft anyone in the secondary until the 5th round. We are somewhat desperate (not to mention Daniel Scott is out for the year again). Other teams are not at the moment.
    • Why do you think A and B are the only options?    What’s the reason for Ballard to be cheap?   What incentive would there be?    Posters like Superman and w87r have crunched the numbers.  The Colts are among the league leaders in spending.     Ballard’s is going into his 8th year.  He’s been competitive in 6 of the 8 seasons and I personally think season 1 was a tank.    Also…. Ballard always says the team is always looking to improve.  It’s now mid-June, so the Colts have 5 more weeks to sign someone before camp starts.  There are a number of FA safeties available.  Why aren’t the other 31 teams signing these players either.  They’re certainly good enough.  But it’s Ballard who is wrong or incompetent or cheap or something and not anyone else.
    • This is a great story on Mitchell. The part in here where Mitchell explains how much he appreciates Ballard going to bat for him was awesome.
    • As the old saying goes, you want to draft guys who can get into the end zone, or guys who can knock down their QB.     I think the Colts are built that way.  With a lot less emphasis on guys who can cover their WRs.     Ball control, minimize their opportunities to score.
