Sitting pretty with a win

I think San Fran is going to beat Houston and KC should beat Tennessee.

If we win, I think we can go to SD on Monday night and win again.  I think it will be extremely difficult to come of a MNF performance on short rest to play Peyton and the Donkeys on Sunday.

If we go to the bye week at 5-2, I think we are sitting very pretty to take the AFC south.  It will be hard to beat Houston twice in regular season, but I think we kind of lucked out that the away game vs. them comes after our bye (it is their bye week, too, but I still think it is advantageous to us to go to HOU after the bye and then play them at home later in the year than it would be the other way around).

I think if we are 5-2 at the bye (halfway point of season) we will be up a few games on our division.

Assuming SF beats HOU this week, then HOU beats STL next week, and KC beats HOU the following week -- they will 3-4 going into their bye week which is also week 8.

Assuming KC beats TEN this week, SEA beats TEN next week, and SF beats TEN in week 7 -- they will be 3-4 going into their bye week which is also week 8.

This will be a tough game for us, but being that it is at home, I predict the Colts will win.  If my predictions for week 6 and 7 hold up, we will be 5-2 and TEN and HOU will both be 3-4 for our bye weeks.  That, to me, will be a thing of beauty and will set us up nicely for a run to win the AFC South -- keep in mind, we should be getting some players back healthy around and after the bye.

**Note:  I did not include anything about the Jaguars, as they pose no threat to the AFC South title this year.

Id question your doubt in Tennessee, but without Locker that offense isnt nearly as dynamic. Defensive teams like KC, Seattle, and San Fran should be able to beat them.

Its still a rough road to the title though. Locker is coming back before we play them this year, and Houston is still a top 3 Defensive team.

I agree -- it will be a rough road -- but if we are ahead of our division at the bye week, I think we have a great shot.

We have a tough 2nd half, too -- but assuming we get at least 1 win out of 2 games with HOU and TENN, beat STL, and beat JAC -- we have 9 wins (assuming we are 5-2 at the break).  That leaves HOU, TEN, ARI, KC, and CIN as the other 5 games.  I think we take at least 2 of these games -- which would put us at 11-5.  I more realistically think that we take at least 3 of these games (12-4).

Then I will assume (again under assumption that HOU is 3-4 at bye) that HOU gets 1 win against us, beats JAC 2x, and beats OAK (that gives them 7 wins).  Then they have DEN, ARI, NE, IND, and TEN.  I think they definitely lose to DEN, and let's say they sweep the other 4 -- that will put them at 11-5 (I doubt they will beat us twice, and I think they lose at least 1 between NE, TEN, and ARI -- so more realistically I think they go 9-7)).

Then I will assume (again under assumption that TEN is 3-4 at bye) that TEN gets 1 win vs. IND, OAK, and beats JAC twice (that gives them 7 wins).  Then they have DEN, IND, ARI, STL, HOU.  I don't think they beat us twice, I think they definitely lose to DEN, so let's assume that they sweep the other 3 -- that would put them at 10-6 (I don't think they beat STL in week 9 b/c Locker will not be fully healthy, I don't think they beat HOU, and I don't think they beat ARIZ -- making them 7-9 -- I actually think we will beat them 2x which would then put them at 6-10).

I guess my main point is -- if we go into the bye week at 5-2 and HOU and TEN go in at 3-4 (or even if one of them goes in at 4-3) -- our fate is then in our hands and as long as we can split or win the series with those 2 teams, we should have a very good chance at being the AFC South Champs!

Going to be tough, just got to take it one game @ a time. Seattle is going to be very tough but it is winnable since they aren't a great road team. Houston handled them for 3 quarters, we just need to handle them for 4, easier said then done. They may have a patchwork OL playing hopefully.

Respectfully.....

We're one-quarter of the way through a marathon.    A grueling marathon.     Another injury or two to the wrong player and it won't matter if we're sitting at the bye week 5-2.    The rest of the season could go south in a hurry.

Don't look too far ahead....    don't look too far down the road.    Try the players approach....   one game at a time...

Yes, yes, yes, I know it's not nearly as much fun,  but you'll save yourself some heartache in the process....   a season has many unexpected twits and turns,  ups and downs...   it's like a roller coaster in the dark....   you can't see things coming and they take you by surprise....

Just sit back,  relax,  and enjoy the ride!    Scream your head off and cheer like mad,  but be sure to enjoy the ride along the way!

Pulling for a big, big upset win this Sunday!     Go Colts!!!

    • Love the addition of Latu. I wanted him and/or the corner who is blazing fast and a man corner (cannot remember his name). I never thought Ballard would pick either because of the injury history for Latu and the other not a zone corner. In reality, the D could be a lot better this year than last. However it may not be reflected in the stats because they play some very good qb's this year. Last year, the D faced horrible qb play and what is alarming is that they actually put up stats near the bottom.  That being said, I cannot see the D being worse than last year if that is comforting, lol??
    • We’ll see if it remains average this year.  I think it’s possible, but unlikely.   Put another way,  if the Colts defense is average in 2024 I will be very, Very, VERY disappointed.
    • I agree with you that he is not trying to build an average defense. It is just a plain fact that after 8 yeas of drafting and free agency, he has managed to do it.
    • Kind of an extreme example, but Jim Irsay specifically praising Bryce Young last year could qualify. In general though, if a team is trying to throw off the scent by floating positive information about other players, that seems harmless. It's different if a team is trashing a player to try to get him to drop into their range, and I don't think that's something that actually happens. If it did, I think that would be highly inappropriate, and I think a good reporter would look back and recognize that their source was using them, and think twice about trusting that source again.     So I think this is way more common than what McGinn did. And I don't think people ignore it, unless it's something they don't want to hear. Most sports reports include some version of 'I've been told...' without naming or directly quoting a source. A lot of those are just fact-based, black/white reports, but that often happens with more opinion-based or viewpoint-based reporting as well.     I don't know if anyone necessarily likes those reports, but I do think we consume them, and are generally influenced by them. Yeah, the substantiated/analytical stuff is way more valuable than a report discussion a potential character issue, but if it has a legitimate foundation -- AD Mitchell does have diabetes, it can be difficult for someone with that condition to control their mood and energy levels -- then I think it should be considered. Ultimately, I know the quality of information I have access to is nowhere near what the teams are getting, so I don't worry too much about it.      Yeah, I fully agree. Ballard faced the media when the Okereke story came out, and it was obvious the team had done their homework. He was firm when asked about Ogletree coming back. The Colts are thorough. Doesn't mean nothing can go wrong once they draft the guy, but I'm confident they've checked all their boxes.    And definitely, I think Ballard 100% meant everything he said, and I have no problem with him saying it. But, I think there's a difference between McGinn's report, and the narrative that came later. I think the report was based on anonymous insights, and the narrative was based on sensational headlines. And I'd say Ballard's comments apply more to the narrative than to the report.
