Whalen playing special teams

I heard an interview with him after the game last night and he mentioned he was being used on special teams and Phil B said he saw him out there blocking and playing gunner on special teams too.  To me this tells me that that Colts are trying to get a feel for if he can play special teams or not.  That's probably a good sign if you are a fan of him making the roster as he would probably be the fourth or fifth WR on the roster odds are he's going to see most of his action as a special teams guy.  So if he can play special teams I think that will seal his spot on the final 53 man roster.

Why do you think that?

For the record, I disagree.

Since most of the posts on here are opinions you are entitled to disagree. Just from the little I've seen of him in the games he has been easy to tackle, does not appear to be someone to lay another person out coming down on kickoffs. It is just my opinion.

No need to get defensive. I was curious as to why you thought Whalen was soft, because I don't think he is. Welker started out on Special Teams too.

Welker to me was a much better player. Welker did not seem to go down with just the slightest pull. I just can't see Whalen blocking or tackling on STs. I can't see Ty doing it either.

SOFT????  He crosses the middle of the field on our offense many times, you can't be SOFT and even think of going there......  he could be our version of Wes Welker.

You can be soft and cross the middle if there is a big hole in the defense. I did not say he could not be effective on offense just to soft to play STs. STs players have to be willing to lay wood and I just have not seen that type of intensity from Whalen.

I think Griff played some gunner for Stanford.

One of the LAST words I'd ever think of to use for Griff is.......    soft.       wth?

He's a very tough kid.   Fearless.   Not afraid to mix it up,  to go over the middle,  to get hit.      Soft?     No.
