Reality's Mock Draft

Recommended Posts

Indy trades #24 to Arizona for 2,3.

In this Mock I assume We do not Sign DHB.

2: Quinton Patton WR Louisiana Tech.

Patton is a absolute Beast. He is 6'0 204 lb. He had 104 receptions this season with 1,200+ yards. Patton runs very crisp solid routes and makes all the tough catches. Patton does not contain top tear speed but can still move running a 4.53 at the combine. Patton can make all the catches including the though ones. There is a very strong comparison in my mind to Reggie. Patton is one of my favorite options to be the #1 WR when Reggie retires.

3: Brian Schwenke C California

My Surprise pick right here. Schwenke look very very solid at the combine and could slip in at center and start from day 1. Although Center is not the biggest need we have it definetly can be improved on. Schwenke could fit great with Donald Thomas, and a new Guard beside him with Cherilus and Contanzo on the tackles our O-line just went from being a weak spot to a strength.

3: Travis Frederick OG Wisconsin

Frederick fills a huge hole at RG. As I said above with the additions of Frederick and Schwenke in the draft along with Cherilus and Thomas in Free agentcy our O-line will be a strong suit especially how our #1 priority this off-season was to protect Andrew. Frederick is a good pass blocker but he excels in the run game.

4: Travardo Williams OLB Connecticut

Williams is a combine riser that may not be here at this pick but it would be a great pick if he is still available. Williams is 6'2 and has good pass rush ability. Williams would fit in well in a rotation with Robert, Erik, and Jerry. He'd be a great fit and would get more playing time as Pass rusher.

6: Branden Smith CB Georgia

Smith could play under Darius as a dimeback. Depth added and skill added. Smith played under acouple of soild corners so did not get much play time put showed skill and upside when he got his chance.

7: Quanterius Smith OLB Western Kentucky

Quanterius is a Beast. He is all over the feild and disrupts almost every play. He had 12.5 sacks last year. Quanterius is a good pass rusher that could be solid in a rotation. Quanterius is very inconsistent and gets many of his sacks in bunches. The only reason Smith may still be around is a ACL injusry late in the 2012 season.

7: Javon Harris S Oklahoma

Played as a strict back-up with Oklahoma and could be depth with us.

I don't mind this draft, but I'd change some things...

In this scenario (trade #24 for Cards 2 and 3) I'd go..

2nd- Hunter  (or Woods if Hunter isn't there)

3rd- Frederick (C/OG)

3rd- Le'Veon Bell (RB)

4th- Sean Porter (OLB) (if he isn't there, FS T.J McDonald)

6th- Micah Hyde (CB)

7th- John Lotulelei (OLB)

7th- Matt Staniewitch ( C)

I think that our depth is already solid along all three D-Line spots, for now... After a draft like this, there would still be depth concerns at OT...

Some might want to see a more D-centered draft at the top, but I think that OG, WR, and a third RB are our biggest team needs... (I realize that view is in the minority)

replacements for aging players like Redding, Mathis, Wayne, Vini... should be addressed in the 2013 and 2014 drafts and could come into play on draft day...

Im not buying the idea of drafting a rb, Maybe Ill change my mind if ya can sell me on it......We have 5......Now that does not necessarily mean we have quality depth, it just means we have depth, Carter unfortunately cant be trusted to even touch a football on the field because its like a hot potata to him and I expect Brown to come back 100 percent but who knows.I am not a fan of trading down for a wr but could live with it if we do, I'd rather have a OLB/DE such as Okafor or Brandon Jenkins trading down into the 2nd round, Also not a fan of Porter, Rather draft Aaron Mellette

I see you took Le'Veon Bell in this mock. Frankly I like Bell a lot, he should be a quality power back at the next level, also a surprisingly good receiver out of the backfield.

My real question is, is RB a position Colts fans consider a need? Or is it something that colts fans are willing to put off for the time being, or perhaps find a FA option? Or is everyone satisfied to roll with Delone Carter and Vick Ballard?

Don't forget Donald Brown....   he's the first back-up to Ballard....

Here are my thoughts on drafting a RB...

I like both Ballard and Brown... Carter has shown very little, IMO and I am not super excited about Meggett or Alexander, either..

Last year we saw how important it can be to have a serviceable 3rd back... Mewelde Moore was a failed experiment on ST and especially in game situations.. He was supposed to provide a solid receiver out of the backfield and good blocking on 3rd down.. He did neither... I did like Deji, but apparently the F.O. disagreed.

I think we need somebody to come in and be our 3rd back instead of Carter, or at least provide some competition... Bell is a guy who can do what we hoped Moore would do last season...

The other thing to note is that next year is Brown's contract year and Grigs might part ways with him if he spends more time injured..

All of these things add up to a need at RB in my view...

Overall, I like it.....IMO the interior O-line and Front 7 depth is still the priority remaining in this off-season over WR, but you addressed the OG/C and OLB positions well. We have a lot of bodies at the DE and DT positions and hopefully those guys stay healthy this season or else our perceived depth there could vanish.

Out of the entire WR crop I like Da'Rick Rogers the most for his route-running, size and YAC...but he has the off-field stuff that many are uncomfortable with....so Patton is a good swap there with his similar skill set, and his selection in a trade down that still nets us Schwenke and Fredrick would be a nice move by Grigson.

Travardo WIlliams is another nice. I agree he's a decent bet to go earlier than the 4th...but if he doesn't its a good value for a pass rush specialist.

One late round change I'd make is taking SS Cooper Taylor instead of Braden Smith. I believe we need more S depth as well and Taylor's health issue was heart-related and is said to have been corrected in surgery. Taylor's a smart player and a hammer with great size, and our special teams coverage always seems to have room for improvement where he could help.

But overall...this would be a solid draft.

Don't forget Donald Brown....   he's the first back-up to Ballard....

Ah yes, I had indeed forgotten about Brown. Loved him coming out of UCONN, shame he never developed the way he could have.

That said he is a FA after this year correct? As a general rule, I don't like to give RBs a second contract unless they are something special like an AP.

How would colts fans feel about a Marcus Lattimore in the 3rd? He would basically need a year to get healthy, and by then Brown is ready to walk as Lattimore steps in to take over...

I like everything except pick number 1

Someone can dominate at level 2 colleges and not see the field on Sundays

Somehow, someway, we need to come out of this draft with a starting WR, a OLB that can develop, a pile pushing guard, and depth....

I think Hopkins or Hunter one, will undoubtedly be available when we pick, if not both. I would rather have Hunter, IMO he has much higher upside. If by a very slim chance both are gone, I would rather wait and take DaRick Rodgers. Just as much talent as the other 2 but has had problems with the weed.

Please no DuhRick...........

Who needs an attitude like that on a team.........

Can't fix stupid

At #86....I'd be willing to take the chance on Rogers if a trade down nets us a high 2nd rounder and extra 3rd rounder. And his salary and cap hit would be next to nothing for 4 years.

I know, I know....I'm not a big fan of off-field problem children either, and call it a jailhouse conversion of sorts if you want....but it sounds like he's got his head on somewhat straight.

If he stays clean he could be a major steal.
