Broncos in serious contract talks with Wes Welker. Decision expected soon.

Attention Bill Polian, this is how you build around Peyton Manning!

Ummm... Dallas Clark, Edge James, Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Brandon Stokely, Tarik Glenn, Jeff Saturday, Dwight Freeney, Robert Mathis, Bob Sanders? I'd say we built around Manning plenty.

Should have clarified: How you build around an aging Manning for one last title run. No Blair Whites and Jeff Linkenbachs.

Yea, because Wes Welker determines who wins the game.

exactly, anything can happen between now and the time the colts play them. Manning could have a season ending injury, von miller could be out for a couple games, broncos could lose a few players due to injury OR better yet, the colts could be the team to beat in the AFC come 2013 season and shock the NFL world like they did this past season when they went 11-5 with a rookie QB, a patch made offensive line, and a defense playing in a new scheme they never played in while in the NFL and had one of the worst defenses in the NFL. people are quick to write off other teams just because of one signing. that is like saying the dolphins are going to the AFC Championship because they signed Wallace lol.

New England Patriots, Denver Broncos Final Two For Wes Welker?

it sounds like it has come down to the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos, and that is according to Bill Simmons of ESPN and Grantland. The Boston-based writer did break the Randy Moss trade, and Simmons is a reliable source for big information regarding the Patriots, in my opinion. It make sense for the Broncos and Patriots- two contenders with elite quarterbacks whose schemes fit Welker- to be the final two teams for Welker.

All the stuff about Welker getting low-balled by the Pats seems to be agent-driven, but it is true that the Pats and Welker broke off extensions yesterday and were, per the Boston Herald, “miles apart”. If the Broncos do land Welker, then they will be stacked as an offense with Demaryius ThomasEric Decker, Welker, and Jacob Tamme as the weapons surrounding Manning.

The thought of it  ((  article author not me )))  makes me sick to my stomach.

I think the Patriots have a better chance at signing Welker than the Broncos do, and it would be a slap in the face if Welker really did sign with the Broncos. I actually hope Simmons is wrong here about it coming down to the Broncos and Patriots, but that’s only if the Patriots are still in it. It’s good to hear that the Pats still have a good chance at re-signing Welker, but all this drama surrounding him continues to make me fear the worst.

    • Ouch. Didn’t expect a sweep, but I’m also not surprised by it. Boston is the best of the bunch. Have been all year. The only way the West has a chance in the finals is to combine the two teams left into super teams to beat them. And even then, Boston still has a real good chance.    All I can say is the future is bright and it’s fun to be a fan again. I’m still too sports emotionally drained from watching my favorite driver lose the 500 out of T3 coming to the checkers with my own eyes to go through a postmortem on the Pacers yet. 😵‍💫
    • Should of called a timeout in game 3 on the last possession.     Carlisle deserves a lot of blame as well. Bad rotations, bad challenge usage, no timeouts when needed.     All in all is was a good year, but the more I think about the missed opportunity this year ended up being, it's a little rough.   We had a legit chance at a championship at this point of the playoffs and outplayed them in 3 of the 4 games for 47 minutes.     Just hope to return this deep in the playoffs again soon, it's never a given.
    • The idea that Smith could be a guard didn't originate with the fans at all. Smith was a guard in college, and Ballard viewed him as a guard prospect when they drafted him. The Colts had an opening at RT in 2018, and early in the season, they put Smith into the lineup at RT, and kept him there.    That was a long time ago, and Smith has proven himself as a really good RT. His athleticism and technical ability have mostly compensated for his lack of length on the outside. But it's common for NFL tackles to move inside as they get older and their athleticism drops a notch.   I personally think guard play is just as important as tackle play, and RG is the weakest spot on the OL right now, so I have no problem with the idea of moving Smith inside, even if he's still performing well at RT. If -- IF -- it would improve the overall line play, it should be considered. The question is whether Smith would be an improvement at RG (I think he would), and whether we have a RT candidate who can take Smith's place without a significant drop off (I don't think we do, not yet).    Acting like Colts fans just came up with this idea is revisionist. The Colts viewed Smith as a guard when they drafted him, and it's common for OTs to move inside. I'm not obsessed with the idea, but it's also not entirely wild-eyed.
