MTC's Colts Mock Draft (1.0)

Recommended Posts

The picks I will about to make are what I believe the Colts will do on draft weekend. These picks aren't off my personal opinion. Just based off workouts/visits/speculation/position.

1st round, 29th pick: Damarious Randall, FS, Arizona State

- With this pick, I'm assuming Landon Collins will be off the board, but if he isn't Colts would chose Collins. Back to Randall, the Colts recently worked him out and received high praise from coaches and scouts. Although the lack of size, Randall has great man and zone coverage adding to his speed and agility. The main thing about Randall is that you will notice him on the field because he makes play after play. There have been reports and rumors that Colts will target multiple safeties in the draft because of the injury history of Dwight Lowery and the age of Mike Adams.

2nd round, 61st pick: Jeremiah Poutasi, OT/OG, Utah

- Versatilely! That's what Grigson loves as it was evident last year as he reached for versatile lineman Jack Mewhort last draft. The Colts are still addressing the offensive line and although Poutasi would be a terrible pick here, Poutasi screams Grigson. Poutasi isn't really athletic to be a tackle in the NFL so he'll be put in guard (one would hope so). However, Poutasi has nice power and length who can help in the run game.

3rd round, 93rd pick: Henry Anderson, DE, Stanford

- This is the first "mock" pick that I would actually like. Henry Anderson fits our 3-4 scheme well as he is quick and explosive off the line. Not only that but he is VERSATILE! He had below average combine numbers, but Grigson ignores all that as he drafted Dwayne Allen in 2012. He brings depth to a much needed line behind Jones and Langford.

4th round, 128th pick: James Sample, SS, Louisville

- James Sample is the most underrated player in the draft who I have as a second round grade. However, he'll fall for lack of experience in the college level. Sample has the speed, the agility, the size you want in a safety. When Sample plays, he's tough on the field and he'll make the ballhawking plays you want. As I mentioned earlier, Colts are looking to draft multiple safeties so I expect the Colts to draft another one at this range and Sample is the best safety available.

5th round, 165th pick: Josh Robinson, RB, Mississippi State

- Colts had recently worked out Robinson and I didn't know who he was at first. I started to watch games of Robinson running and he looks like Maurice-Jones Drew out there. Robinson is full power with great vision and balance. It takes a few defenders to bring him down and there's a good chance he'll break the tackles and run for a touchdown. He's a pretty bad pass blocker, but it's not a big deal.

6th round, 204th pick: Xzavier Dickson, OLB, Alabama

6th round, 206th pick: Quandre Diggs, CB, Texas

7th round, 244th pick: Titus Davis, WR, Central Michigan

7th round, 255th pick: Deterrian Shackelford, ILB, Ole Miss

I'll just leave this here

Randall is now Mayock #1 Safety in the draft. I know nothing about him, so i can't say I agree, but he's clearly creating some buzz in many NFL front offices. Not all of those people can be wrong can they?

EDIT: TOTALLY did not see the entire thread dedicated to this article. Whoops! Sorry

Way too high for poutasi in the 2nd. He's a 4th rounder at best.

Grigson might have reached a half round for Mewhort....   but he'd be reaching 2-3 round for Poutasi.

Love your pick of James Sample. This might be a bit much but he is probably my #2 safety in the draft. If we get him and Collins, I like the look of our secondary ( especially if we add depth like Senquez Golson.)

I like the Poutasi as a player but to me it is a bit of a reach in the 2nd round ( 4/5th round to me would be great and take a Dlineman if one of them falls or a tackle like Donovan Smith in the 2nd instead.)

Not really. Poutasi is projected to be drafted in the second or third round.

For whatever it's worth to you.....

The Big Three websites that I use the most ranked Poutasi this way.....

CBSSports (who I trust the least of the three) ranked him as a 6th to 7th rounder.     I think that's a wrong evaluation.

NFL.com calls him a back-up with a 5th/6th round grade.

ESPN.com likes him the most with a low 4th round grade.

I saw one story that called him "Baby-Iupati" which was high praise, so I've tried to keep my eye on him.

I'm not seeing 2nd/3rd grades for him.    I'm sure you are,  I just don't know where.....

It's going to take some time before people are sold on Randall as a first round pick. He's good but I didn't see first round tape.

Plus if you take a FS that high, he better be the next Earl Thomas.

#29 isn't high for a FS. Earl Thomas went #14.

Grigson might have reached a half round for Mewhort....   but he'd be reaching 2-3 round for Poutasi.

This is the first I'm reading (that I remember) of Mewhort being a reach at all. I'm pretty sure he was a consensus top 60. Even if he was top 75, I don't see that as a reach.

I don't get the Poutasi pick at all, especially if the rationale is "Grigson is bound to do something dumb, why not this?" If you're going to make a reach OL pick there, make it Ogbuehi or Sambrailo.

I don't mind a safety at 29.    I'm just not convinced that THIS safety is worth the 29th pick.

And to be clear -- I like him -- I hope the Colts get him with their 2nd round pick.

My negative comments are only to the extent of him being a 1st round pick, and not because I don't think he'll be a very good player.

Ogbhuei is going round 1.

As opposed to a week ago when you said:

I'll be shocked and angry if we spent our 1st on him. He's a 3rd round talent who I thought we might reach for at the bottom of the 2nd round.

You chastise someone for changing their rankings after what I presume is two things: hearing from league sources and watching more film. You change opinions based on what article you read last and that's okay, but someone putting in work and changing their opinion isn't? It rubs me the wrong way when people form very strong opinions and they watch little to no film.

I agree. I was responding to the idea that #29 is too high for a FS, as in, any FS.

I don't think Randall will go in the first round. We'll see. < 2 weeks

Nah.

I've seen more of that lately, but he's been considered a 70-90 guy for awhile, due to his injury. I don't think he goes in the first.

Agreed. I am guessing he lands somewhere around 45-50. If he played well at LT before the injury, then yeah, but he didn't.

There's only 13,469 mock draft websites....what's your problem!!! :P

Now you're just being argumentative.

I've made several posts saying I don't mind having a difference of opinion over a round...   even two.

But there's a difference between the 6th round and the first.    If you can't figure out the difference,  I can't help you.

If you want this conversation to continue,  you're going to have to do better than this....
